Although other studies have analyzed this relationship, we extend the research by comparing the results across different industries such as healthcare, technology, consumer goods and industrial goods using a sample of 689 firms. The results show the relationship of corporate governance to the choice of capital is negative in the healthcare sector firms, positive in the consumer goods firms, and has no impact on technology or industrial goods firms. These shocks and disasters have often damaged the economy and caused a massive loss to the affected nation. A large amount of aid is necessary for recovery from such natural shocks. We propose to examine and compare the impact of natural disasters on economic activity. The type of natural disaster considered here is earthquakes, and the variable for economic activity is Merchandise Imports. We find that the natural disasters have a significant impact on the economic activity and the results vary based on the form of government and the level of development within the country. The goal of teaching is student success, but defining success can be daunting. A rudimentary desc... more The goal of teaching is student success, but defining success can be daunting. A rudimentary description of student success involves academic achievement and students' attainment of a high level of satisfaction with their educational process. The pinnacle of student success is transformational learning. Transformational learning is ultimately evidenced by knowledge-based, responsible, and autonomous thinking. Student engagement enhances student success. As a result, course design and assignment design are critical. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate how an online discussion assignment can be used to enhance student engagement and increase student success in a university class. The assignment presented in this paper was used in three sections of Global Environment of Business classes in 2021. We designed it to be more than a simple transactional assignment. For the discussion assignment, students were required to address the following: "Should society adopt capitalism or socialism as an economic system? Why?" Students were presented relevant information and were required to think critically about the topic, write their thoughts on a discussion board, and respond to their peers. Then, the instructors evaluated students' comments, sought to understand their perspectives on the topic, and followed up with appropriate materials in subsequent classes. The coursework moves students toward transformational learning. The assignment requires students to present new information, reflect critically on their point of view, consider the applications of what they have learned, and, finally, think responsibly and autonomously, which is the goal of transformational learning. Higher education's focus on CSR has allowed millennials to focus their decision-making using a CSR/stakeholder approach to financial management decisions. Millennials' support for a CSR/stakeholder approach has grown as they have been completing college. The CSR/stakeholder approach has increased partly due to social awareness created by curricula that highlights areas of social and environmental inequality. This CSR/stakeholder approach has recently emerged as a bona fide strategic management option globally. This paper extends CSR research by evaluating millennial financial decisions and the resulting competitive company performance in a widely used business simulation. Proactive university equality initiatives, resulting in curriculum changes, reinforce millennials' ethos of social and environmental sustainability. A few studies investigated the relationship between the distinct dimensions of social capital (structural, cognitive, and relational capital) and how they influence the firm's performance outcome. Drawing upon social capital theory, this paper develops a model that examines cognitive capital's mediating role in the relationship between structural capital and relational capital. The model also considers knowledge sharing as the outcome of relational capital, and knowledge sharing mediates the relationship between the buying firm's relational capital and mediates the relationship between structural capital and relational capital. Relational capital significantly impacts knowledge sharing, and knowledge sharing partially mediates the relationship between the firm’s relational capital and operational performance. This study is one of the few that examines the relationship among different social capital dimensions and identifies knowledge sharing as a critical pathway between the firm’s social capital and performance. The dynamic capability view (DCV) has gained attraction in many areas of business administration.... more The dynamic capability view (DCV) has gained attraction in many areas of business administration. This article aims to analyze the evolution of the dynamic capability view (DCV) theory within the operations and supply chain field. In this article, we use author co-citation, term co-occurrence, and topic modeling techniques to uncover the evolution of DCV in operations and supply chain management areas. The analysis was performed on 166 peer-reviewed articles from the top four operations management (OM) journals. The study finds the prominent authors co-cited together along with the representative topics in these papers. Furthermore, newer topics, such as supply chain resilience and dynamic-based capabilities, such as data analytics capabilities, are gaining prominence. Finally, the future research agenda is discussed along with the limitations of the paper. However, certain factors, such as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), are challenging to quantify in corporate strategy. The consideration of CSR, including Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance, by Boards of Directors, is among these difficult-to-quantify factors. Business schools now teach students to focus more on a CSR/stakeholder approach, in line with updated standards such as Advance Collegiate Schools of Business Standard 9, which has increased the focus on societal impact in curricula. The CSR/stakeholder approach has emerged as a global strategic management option but is not without challenges, including non-homogeneous CSR issues and potential greenwashing. Moreover, a measurable stakeholder approach might lead to decreased profitability. Individual differences, particularly among millennials, influence support for or against CSR initiatives. This paper evaluates these differences and their impact on decision-making, which will significantly influence society as millennials rise to leadership roles. The dynamic capabilities view is frequently applied in strategic management as a framework for un... more The dynamic capabilities view is frequently applied in strategic management as a framework for understanding competitive advantage. The dynamic capabilities view is less prevalent elsewhere, and there is a dearth of research on the extent and topical focus of the dynamic capabilities view in supply chain and operations management. We address this gap with a review and content analysis of articles published between 2000 and 2015 in two highly respected journals: Journal of Operations Management and Management Science. We identify fifteen dynamic capabilities view-focused papers and analyze the identified articles in terms of publication frequency, publication by journal, industry focus, and primary research method. We then identify and classify the topics analyzed in those papers through the lens of the dynamic capabilities view. Based on that analysis, we conclude that dynamic capabilities view-based research is gaining traction in supply chain and operations management, and we propose an agenda for future research. Current works of the literature suggest that corrupt countries try to hide their corrupt practice... more Current works of the literature suggest that corrupt countries try to hide their corrupt practices from their citizens in attempting to control the number of different types of daily newspapers and that the ability for a nation to provide a variety of media for their citizens as to allow them to choose and to pick from different sources and viewpoints about their country reflects the amount of corruption that country has. This research compares three things: expenditure on R&D, the number of telephone lines in use, and the amount of and variety of newspapers being read in a certain country, and tries to see the relationship between these three variables and the perception of corruption. The results supported the hypothesis that the greater the variety of media that citizens of a country have to choose from, and the greater the expenditure on R&D, the lower the perception of corruption. Interestingly enough, we find that the more the private industry spends on R&D than the government, the lower the corruption.
