This architecture is aimed at supporting voting sessions on a nationwide scale, with diverse application from television game shows to governmental elections. The DVA defines a communication architecture for efficient multicasting of Questions to voters, and scalable collection of Answers. It also presents a distributed voter identification architecture. The DVA uses and extends the REliable Application Layer Multicast protocol to achieve scalability in communication. In particular, it uses the overlay nature of this protocol to extend it with a many-to-one collection service which performs scalable collection of group member information at a central group controller. We also implement a working, deployable scenario for the common “Big Brother” TV game show application, which uses anonymous voting on a large scale.
