However, it is unknown whether the methylomes of differentiating muscle stem cells overlap that of skeletal muscle tissue and how age modulates this overlap. Using the most recent high coverage DNA methylation arrays (850K CpG sites), we compared the methylomes of young and aged skeletal muscle to that of young and aged muscle stem cells at several time points of differentiation (0, 72 hrs, 7 days and 10 days). In line with the existing literature (450K arrays), aged muscle tissue was hypermethylated compared with young tissue. Hypermethylated genes in aged tissue were enriched for; pathways in cancer (that combined; focal adhesion, MAPK signaling, PI3K-Akt-mTOR signaling, p53 signaling, Jak-STAT signaling, TGF-beta and notch signaling), rap1 signaling, axon guidance and hippo signaling. Aged muscle stem cells also demonstrated a hypermethylated profile, enriched for; axon guidance, adherens juncti...

We present an interesting case of a patellar sleeve fracture in an 11-year-old child with lateral slip of the retinacular sleeve. Clinical assessment was difficult; however, an MRI scan confirmed the diagnosis. Surgical repair was undertaken, and the retinacular sleeve was repaired along with repair of the patellar tendon. The patient recovered well after surgery and underwent physiotherapy. A patellar sleeve fracture should always be suspected in patients less than 16 years of age, particularly in those with indirect acute trauma to the knee. Prompt surgical repair is important to achieve full functional recovery.

We present an unusual case of an isolated prepatellar continuation rupture, which to our knowledge is the first described case in the literature. Injuries to the extensor mechanism may include isolated rupture of the prepatellar continuation with intact quadriceps and patellar tendons. Diagnosis may be difficult with ultrasound scan and requires MRI scan for confirmation. Appropriate clinical assessment and regular physiotherapy lead to a full functional recovery.

Post-operative improvement depends on a number of factors including implant design and patient associated factors. To our knowledge there are no published study's comparing the results of AP glide and rotating platform designs of LCS knee arthroplasty. Therefore we feel that a study is required to investigate and compare the effects of two types of LCS total knee arthroplasty on joint proprioception and range of motion.
