The present study focuses on the vertical transmission of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV),... more The present study focuses on the vertical transmission of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), specifically its prevention through the application of treatments. For this, a documentary research was developed, where digital sources from official pages were reviewed, keeping the principle of topicality and veracity. The vertical transmission of HIV is about the transfer of the virus from mother to child, which can occur during pregnancy, delivery and through breastfeeding. HIV has no cure, however, there are treatments based on antiretroviral drugs, which control the virus and prevent the development of the syndrome and even reduce the risks of infection. There is a high percentage of vertical transmission happens, however, studies have shown that in those cases where treatment is applied that percentage is reduced to a minimum, it can even be eradicated, which is why early diagnosis and its due treatment to ensure both the health of the mother and eradicate the infection in their children.
