Malindang Range Natural Park (MMRNP) is one of the Key Biodiversity Areas (K.B.A.) in the Philippines. One of the major threats facing MMRNP is land-use change and habitat loss. Landuse and landcover changes in the MMRNP were determined from 1992 to 2015 using Geographic Information System (G.I.S.). Human settlements and agricultural land uses were increasing and often directly bordered the protected area boundaries. Results also showed that human settlements in MMRNP are creeping towards the core zone, potentially increasing human activity and threatening the protected area's biodiversity. Urban expansion around MMRNP varied but increasing as much as 10%. Forest cover varied both within the buffer and core zones with possible evidence of deforestation throughout the MMRNP. Comparison of spatial data from 1992 and 2010 survey reveals a reduction of 10,588.80 hectares in forest cover. Spatial analyses of forest cover data between 2010 and 2015 indicated an increase of ~157.2 hectares of forest cover due to the National Greening Program (N.G.P.) of DENR. Increasing human impacts and continued loss and fragmentation of wildlife habitats inside the protected areas strongly affect their effectiveness as conservation sites. Promoting awareness of biodiversity conservation among residents should be one of the major focuses of the management plans. It is essential to continue efforts to protect and manage protected areas such as Mt. Malindang Range Natural Park. The findings of this research provide a valuable contribution to support biodiversity conservation. It is highly recommended that periodic monitoring, both spatial and ground truthing activities of the land cover across the MMRNP is essential to better understand the trends in land use impacts to protected areas.

The agricultural services address the food security and nutrition issues in the country. This study determined the awareness, availment, and satisfaction of citizens on agricultural services provided by the local government unit of Ozamiz, Oroquieta and Tangub cities in Misamis Occidental. This utilized a descriptive survey using Citizen Satisfaction Index System, a client perception-based performance assessment. There were 150 respondents (per LGU) selected through multi-stage probability random sampling. Results revealed that citizens in Oroquieta had low awareness in agricultural services while Ozamiz and Tangub had very low awareness. Those who were aware of the services in Ozamiz and Tangub had low availment and fair satisfaction only. Majority of the citizens had high needs and described agricultural services and programs as highly relevant. Gathered data can strengthen the policies and programs of LGUs for development and will strongly drive citizen satisfaction.

In the country, the Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) as the primary health care service providers must be trained so that they can deliver basic oral health care messages on oral disease prevention and timely referral. This study determined the basic oral health care knowledge among BHWs through descriptive survey method. The validated researchermade questionnaire was distributed to selected 132 BHWs from different barangays in Ozamiz city. Results revealed that majority of BHWs had no proper oral health training in the last five years. They were highly knowledgeable about the relationship and effects of oral health to general health, structures, and functions of the oral cavity and screening and recognition of observable oral disease and disorders. The BHWs had less knowledge of basic oral hygiene and necessity of dental visit. Statistical analysis showed that the number of years in service and educational attainment among BHWs affect their knowledge on relationship and effects of oral health to general health and necessity of dental visit. When BHWs know the relationship of oral health to general health, they can recognize any observable oral disease and lead them to recommend for a dental visit. The high knowledge of BHWs should be reinforced with training so that they will acquire the necessary competency, skills, and approaches needed to deliver basic oral healthcare messages and referral services.

Typhoons and tropical storms, flood, and earthquakes continue to cause thousands of human deaths and injuries in the country despite efforts of various organizations to intensify strategies for disaster risk reduction. Next to impacts on people, destructions in the critical infrastructure are often the most-compelling concerns in the aftermath of a disaster. This paper looked into the natural disaster preparedness of government and non-government organizations directly responsible for critical infrastructures operation and emergency management functions in Ozamiz City. The area was selected since commercial activities are centered on coastal areas and many of its population are located near the coastal area making it prone to the impacts of hydrological events. This study employed the survey method. Survey questionnaires were administered to 254 administrators and employees from 45 organizations and follow up interviews were conducted. Overall findings revealed that the organizations are moderately prepared for natural disasters. However, findings from the individual category of infrastructure showed that facilities, utilities and transportation organizations are less prepared. Organizations responsible for electrical, fuel, gas, energy, waste and water utilities ranked number one with lowest preparedness level. The findings of this study may help identify vulnerabilities and strategies to improve the resiliency of these critical infrastructures and institutions and may provide the basis to improve local policies pertaining to disaster preparedness.
