Az elmult 20 ev nemesitesi munkajanak koszonhetően a fontosabb magyar fajtatipusokban rendelkezunk rezisztens fajtakkal. 2010-től, a kulfoldi termesztő korzetekben mar ismert TSWV attorő torzs hazankban is megjelent. A Capsicum annuum fajhoz kozel allo es konnyen keresztezhető fajokban eddig nem talaltunk az attorő torzzsel szemben rezisztenciat. Global production of both fresh and dried fruit continues to increase steadily in terms of area harvested and yield. Various topics are addressed in this review, including recent additions to and clarification of Capsicum taxonomy, genetic resources of Capsicum, cytogenetic studies, the current status of our understanding of the mechanisms affecting the biosynthesis of capsaicinoids, the use of gene mutations to elucidate carotenoid biosynthetic pathways and their regulation, and recent advances in whole-genome sequencing and assembly.

From among the familiar resistance genes in Hungary only the gene Bs-2 could provide sufficient protection against the aggressiveness spectrum of the bacterium species X.c.pv. vesicatoria. The first results of the resistance breeding are the spice pepper varieties Kaldom and Kalorez. In addition to the Bs-2 gene attempts are also being made at building in a gds gene into pepper, a gene creating a general defense system, a different strategy towards Xanthomonas campestris pv. vesicatoria.

The plants have white, lilac or purple flowers, and hollow fruit of very varied shape and size, containing glands alongside the veins that produce a pungent alkaloid known as capsaicin. The majority of varieties in the species C. annuum, grown in the largest volume throughout the world and consumed as fresh vegetables or ground spices, are non-pungent. Interspecific crosses are often possible between C. annuum and related, white-flowered species, thus facilitating breeding for resistance against various diseases and pests and the search for new, valuable traits. Species with lilac and purple flowers can be crossed with each other, but direct crosses with white-flowered species are unsuccessful.

The virus diseases cause enormous losses in terms of quantity and quality of products. In 1970-80 years in the field production Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), Potato virus Y (PVY), Broad bean wilt virus (BBWV), Potato X virus (PVX), Alfalfa mosaic virus (AMV), Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) and Tomato mosaic virus (ToMV) were isolated. In the last 30-40 years pepper production has been intensified and basically changed and a wide selection of new pepper varieties were released. In the last decade main virus disease of pepper production in the field Cucumber mosaic virus, in forcing production 3 pathotypes of Pepper mild mottle virus and WT (normal) and RB (resistance breaking) strains of Tomato spotted wilt virus.
