The abstraction of crude oil molecules from aqueous solution (produced water) and from real petro... more The abstraction of crude oil molecules from aqueous solution (produced water) and from real petroleum polluted water (collected from River State, Nigeria) by Dialium guineense Seed Husk (DGSH) and its ammonium sulfate functionalized form (AS-DGSH) was studied using a batch technique. The sorbents were characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), BET surface area analysis and the Scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Crude oil characterization revealed a light crude oil based on the API gravity of 35.6 0. The Langmuir and Freundlich models gave good fits for crude oil sorption on DGSH and AS-DGSH respectively. The sorbents were found to remove over 50% of crude oil from the real polluted water at the natural pH of 6.1 and showed increase in removal with increase in sorbent dose. The potential of DGSH and its ammonium sulfate modified derivative as effective low cost sorbents for oil spill treatment was established.

The choice of π-conjugated organic systems has been justified in that they are easier to produce and their modes and rates of adsorption are very superb, a consequence of the π-electrons. In this work, a Schiff base of the reaction of aniline and salicyaldehyde was applied as corrosion inhibitor on mild steel via weight loss techniques (at different inhibitor concentrations and at different temperatures) from which the corrosion rate (Cr), degree of surface coverage (θ) and the percentage inhibition efficiency (%IE) were calculated. The molecule was modelled and optimized using Density functional theory (DFT) with B3LYP correlation and 6-31G* and 6-31+G* basis sets to obtain the electronic properties like the frontier molecular orbitals energies (EHOMO and ELUMO), energy band gap (Eg), dipole moment (μ) and the re...
The theoretical and experimental synergistic inhibitive effect of 6-phenyl-5H-benzo[a]phenothiazi... more The theoretical and experimental synergistic inhibitive effect of 6-phenyl-5H-benzo[a]phenothiazin-5-one, 6-phenyl-5H-benzo[a]phenoxazin-5- one and 6-(2-phenylethynyl)-5H-benzo[a]phenoxazin-5-one compounds on mild steel in hydrochloric acid solution was described. Compounds 6-phenyl-5H-benzo[a]phenothiazin-5-one and 6-phenyl-5H-benzo[a]phenoxazin-5-one were obtained as brilliantly reddish and yellowish powdered solids via palladium catalyzed cross-coupling of phenyl boronic acid with 6-chloro-5H-benzo[a]phenothiazin-5-one, 6-chloro-5Hbenzo[ a]phenoxazin-5-one respectively. The reaction of ethynylbenzene with 6-chloro-5H-benzo[a]phenoxazin-5-one afforded orange coloured solid. The intense colors of these dyes and their ease of re-oxidation of Na2S2O4-reduced derivatives make them suitable as vat dyes.
