The control method performance is com-pared to that obtained with the Finite Control Set - Model Predictive Control (FCS-MPC). Additionally, a reduced computation burden method for the full-controlled rectifier is also proposed for symmetric (equal dc-link voltages) and asymmetric (unequal dc-link voltages) scenarios, without compromising the system performance. It is shown that $\mathrm{M}^{2}$ PC operates properly for all three studied configurations, providing lower current THD than FCS-MPC, while preserving the fast and smooth transient response observed when FCS-MPC is employed. The simulation results also show that, for the same control method, asymmetric scenarios provides better results than symmetric ones.

The two arms are connected via coupled inductors, forming a single-phase inverter half-bridge. When compared to other four-level inverters, the proposed topology has just one flying capacitor, lower losses and harmonic distortion, and a smaller number of semiconductor devices, each one supporting the same blocking voltage. The paper presents the model of the converter, its modes of operation, as well as the PWM strategy used for its command. Simulation results are given and experimental results validate the theoretical study.

The converter provides both an input rectifier and an output inverter by sharing a leg in order to reduce the number of power switches. Scalar and vector pulsewidth modulation techniques are presented and the concepts of local and global apportioning factors are introduced. A control technique that aims at maximizing the utilization of the dc-link voltage is proposed. A hysteresis current controller that allows operating with one leg being shared by the load and grid sides is developed. In addition, several relevant characteristics of the converter are addressed, such as voltage capability, harmonic distortion, shared-leg and capacitor currents, and power rating. The features of such a converter are compared to those of the six-leg and four-leg converters. Selected experimental results are presented. Index Terms-Converter modelling and control, five-leg converter, reduced switch count converter. ranga, Brazil, in 1982. This paper proposes an alternative control strategy for the NPC topology based on the one-cycle control technique and the hybrid pulsewidth modulation strategy. Optimal unbalanced load compensation is achieved with the proposed scheme, of which the principal advantages are simplicity, robustness, and low cost. Experimental results confirm the feasibility of the proposed controller.

The system model, operation principles and a control strategy are presented and discussed. Additionally, a space-vector PWM technique is developed to double the effective frequency of the grid and load voltages and to reduce the switching losses. The proposed converter is compared to other similar converters in terms of switch count, harmonic distortion and power losses. The results show that the proposed topology has improved power quality and uses fewer switches and gate drive circuits. These characteristics can potentially reduce the costs and the complexity of the system. In addition, the proposed converter eliminates the requirement for dead-time to prevent short-circuit of the DC-link. In order to validate the theoretical analysis, simulated and experimental results are presented and discussed.

PBG's strategy uses formal methods based on a geometrical representation with particular rules and defines a universe with axioms and conjectures to establish a formation law. It allows power electronics configurations observed in the technical literature to be obtained by just following PBG's proposed rules, taking a systematic approach and using the familiar concept of connection blocks. Such an approach provides the formal outline needed for a comprehensive didactic presentation .

A large variety of feed-forward and feedback control schemes has been described in the literature [1]-[3], but the most widely used methods of PWM are the sinusoidal PWM (SPWM) and the space vector PWM (SVPWM). In SPWM, introduced by Schönung in 1964 [4] to produce the output voltage waveform, a sinusoidal control signal (modulating control signals) is compared with a triangular signal (carrier signal). An SVPWM uses complex voltage vector for control. Although one of the first suggestion for employing the complex voltage vector in PWM control was made by Jardan et al. [5], the SVPWM technique was first published by Busse and Holtz [6] followed by Pfaff et al. [7] in the same year. Prof. Joachim Holtz has had a lifelong contribution and achievement in PWM [8]-[22]. He was one of the pioneers not only of SVPWM technique but also of the three-level inverter topology [23]. Most of his papers on the topic use SVPWM, but he has not neglected other possibilities, including new

The proposed topology combines the principle of series active power filter and the concept of Z-source inverter, which guarantees the high voltage requirement of the three-phase load. A comparison with the direct solution shows that with the proposed topology it is possible to reduce the voltage ratings of the power switches and also the stress of the inductor and capacitor of the Z-source converter, since just part of the energy flow goes through the power converter. On the other hand, in the direct solution the total of energy flow goes through the power converter. A suitable control strategy and PWM technique is presented. Simulation and experimental results are presented as well.
