This article analyses the International Conference on African Cultures in relation to shifting ge... more This article analyses the International Conference on African Cultures in relation to shifting geopolitics of knowledge creation. ICAC took place at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Harare in 2017, and engaged with processes of decolonisation, questioning why most conferences on Africa and the arts of Africa take place in the north. Reviving and at the same time challenging the framework of the 1962 ICAC organised by Frank McEwen and the then Rhodes National Gallery, ICAC 2017 positioned African scholars, curators and artists at the forefront of the studies of African culture, taking ownership of their own narratives.
