Toumba Gona is a tell site located at the mouth of the Anthemous River, east of Thessaloniki Bay. According to earlier research, the site should be dated at most to the late stage of the Early Bronze Age. Geoarchaeological research by means of electrical resistivity tomography, vibra‐coring, sedimentological analysis, and radiocarbon dating shows, however, that the direct proximity of the site witnessed the maximum marine transgression around 3000–2500 BC and the human habitation phase before the 3rd millennium BC, before the transgression. The coastline began to recede due to the delta progradation, which resulted in the formation of extensive marshes to the south of the Toumba. The increased fluvial activity since the end of the 4th millennium BC is relatable with the progradation of the Anthemous River's bay head delta. Human occupation was recorded before and after the marine transgression thus suggesting human persistence in the coastline environment.

The aim of the paper is to present the preliminary results of the interdisciplinary research of the Jatwieź Duża site (district of Suchowola, Sokółka County, Podlaskie voivodeship). The research area is located in the Podlaskie voivodeship in the Brzozówka valley (left tributary of Biebrza River), in the Biebrza Basin. The described site is characterized by an oval form of anthropogenic origin, which indicates a permanent or temporary settlement in the prehistory. This object is one of many similar forms currently being discovered in Podlasie region. This form is build by two distinct trench rings separated by earth embankment and a central flat elevation with a diameter of about 60 m. A geophysical survey (geomagnetic and GPR) w...

The magnetometer prospection of the Bukivna necropolis revealed the presence of a specific dipolar anomaly within the extent of a double barrow. The excavations uncovered burnt wooden-clay constructions related to mortuary houses. The sedimentological samples collected from the features below the mound provided data for the increased ferrous content. Another double barrow located in the Pidhoroddia cemetery was prospected by means of magnetometry, which did not reveal any similar anomaly within the magnetometry plan, thus providing evidence for a possible lack of discussed mortuary structure

The research area is located in the northeastern part of Poland, in the Podlaskie province, in Sokólski district near Suchowola. To determine the conditions of the environment in which the society of this Early Medieval settlement complex functioned, interdisciplinary research was applied. These were invasive and non-invasive methods (geological boreholes, archaeological excavations, electrofusion, magnetometr, and GPR prospecting). The analyes were supplemented with geomorphological and geological mapping of Quaternary sediments. Environmental analyes were used to construct detailed geological cross-sections, update the geomorphological map, verify the existing maps, and identify the environmental context of archaeological site. Geophysical analyes revealed the occurrence of anomalies that could be connected with the settlement from the Early and the Late Medieval. The area between the two large rivers of the region (Biebrza and Supraśl) has not been subject to wider archaeological discussion the arly , especially in aspect of interdisciplinary research Thanks to the obtained results, both sites in Grodzisk (site 1-hillfort, site 2-settlement) were verified in detail. Non-invasive recognition of their construction and the acquisition of dating material will consequently lead to more complete conservation protection.

Non-invasive identification of this type of sites was carried out using the magnetometric prospecting method. Two sites in the Biebrza river valley (Jatwieź Duża) and Narew river valleys were selected. The map of distribution of magnetic anomalies allowed to outline the organization and structure of sediments in the horizontal dimension. Magnetometric images of the sites show a complicated arrangement of objects. A number of types of anomalies have been registered, out of which those describing the defensive character of fortified settlements point to stone and earth structures. At least two lines of fortifications have been registered for all the stands, manifesting themselves as linear groupings of anomalies, thus contradicting any possible cavities in the type of ditch or moat. In addition, the distribution of the anomalies indicates the existence of clear gaps in the fortification lines, which can be interpreted as entrances to the settlement or gateways. These objects clearly indicate the anthropogenic character or adaptation of this place for defensive purposes in the form of terracing and strengthening of slopes. This is indicated by multiple anomalies, which form concentric assumptions of the palisade/wooden and stone embankment type or their combinations.

The location and characteristic shape of the structures seem to support such a hypothesis. In order to define their actual function and chronology, a magnetometric prospection was conducted with subsequent geological drillings. Also, an archival study of the vicinity was provided to establish the barrows within the regional cultural context. As a result of the research, the anthropogenic origin of these structures was confirmed and connected to the Funnel Beaker culture. This discovery allows for the incorporation of central Greater Poland into the discussion on megalithic funerary activity, which, until now, has been impossible due to the lack of data.
