The entire process of information technology adoption is different in different countries. Most research on information technology adoption has concentrated on firms in the UK or US. In this paper we attempt to better understand the determinants of information technology adoption in the Greek banking industry. In this empirical study we found that organizational culture, government policies, foreign exchange rates, and computer prices have significant impact on information technology adoption decisions made by banks.

The emergence of collaboration is facilitated by the sharing of knowledge across organizational boundaries, which promotes the formation of trusted relationships and builds social capital for further cooperation. Furthermore, these partnerships are a vehicle for accelerating organizational learning and for coordinating trans-organizational "communities of innovation". Understanding the nature, process, and content of such collaborative research and technological development ventures can endow with strategic insights both the government policy making and the corporate strategy crafting that informs, shapes, and evolves such partnerships. In particular, government and industry can learn from past experience on how to design intelligent trans-organizational knowledge interfaces to ensure that knowledge sharing occurs across organizational boundaries. A cross-sectional analysis of representative cases of GUIs from the US, Germany, and France, yields a preliminary list of key considerations and corresponding strategic management skills which firms must develop to participate in win-win-win GUI alliances.

The authors developed a KBS that provided recommendations to the experimental groups regarding the quality of their decision making. The experiment involved 24 groups with 3-4 members per group. Twelve groups used the KBS in their decision making. The remaining groups were control groups. In KBS groups, the authors detected no significant effect on intragroup conflict, but found marginally increased group performance and decreased group member satisfaction and confidence with the decisions of their groups.

Sharing and Exchanging Knowledge in Networked Environments

We will address this issue by exploring the central and dual role of team leaders in their capacity as knowledge processors, functioning both as "sources" and "recipients" of net-based knowledge. The case of action teams that have to deal with unpredictable situations and thus, need to obtain and make instant use of accurate knowledge, is also considered. Further suggestions are made regarding team leaders' active participation in particular knowledge-sharing channels, the multifaceted nature of the knowledge exchange, the essentiality of time boundaries, as well as knowledgesearch and knowledge-sharing costs. Besides making concrete suggestions, and far from exhausting the various issues in the literature of knowledge sharing, this study offers a potentially new scope for the team leader's role in the knowledge society on the Internet.

An organization is affected daily by the vast amounts of information received and stored from both external and internal environments. This information when not organized or standardized in a strategic manner, leads to the fragmentation of this same information. In turn, this fragmentation negatively affects an organization's productivity, competitive advantage and thus its profitability. This chapter discusses the importance of developing a system that not only works in support of, but handin-hand with the specific needs of a given business. Through the discussion of its main characteristics and its implementation, it will be shown that the Enterprise Architecture Approach (EA) meets this specific need, as it provides the "blue-prints" to strategically organize information.

These ground-shifting changes have precipitated the emergence of what has come to be known as the Next Generation Network (NGN). Bridging the fixed and mobile divide, that enables the “always connected lifestyle”, where all electronic equipment can be connected to each other in a seamless manner, and users access a wide range of services free of any time, location, and device constraints, stands out as the most notable manifestation of an NGN proposition. This is also known as the Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC). Given the general confusion and uncertainty that characterizes the rapidly integrated communications industry, this paper seeks to assess whether an integrated bundled network can itself become the gateway for the efficient delivery of multimedia applications and services. Applying the Resource Based View (RBV) theory, on the recent developments in the FMC space, this paper concurs with industry-wide skepticism and provides guidelines for the fulfillment of the NGN promise.
