MATLAB simulation was used to generate different size of indefinite random non-symmetric square matrices. Solutions of primal problem and dual problem were deliberated and discussed. Based on simulation results, duality gap found in some of the indefinite non-symmetric matrices and those matrices could not obtain optimal solution whereas some ID matrices that fulfill certain conditions could achieve optimal solution and no duality gap is found. An indefinite non-symmetric matrix with all positive off-diagonal entries and alternate signs of determinant of leading principal minors surely confirmed the existence of optimal solution in linear programming problems.

There are many processes in laboratory; these can be classified into value added as well as non-value-added activities. The processes of making perfume oftentimes happen waiting for raw materials, stock out of raw materials, storage of excess raw materials and repeated pouring activities of raw materials. This study applies Define, Measure, Analyze, Improvement, and Control (DMAIC) methodology, to improve its productivity. The study identifies wastes in laboratory activities. The method also reduced the frequency of raw materials demand by 90% and decreased inventory process time by 90%. It also cut the trial making process consisting of 14 processes into 11 processes and time savings of 104.9 seconds.

While exercises might delay this deterioration, an invention that enhances elderly people’s pinching abilities is essential. This study aims to design and develop a finger grip enhancer that facilitates the day-to-day pinching activities of elderly people. This research is an extension of a previous study that conceptualised a finger grip enhancer. The device facilitates finger flexion on the thumb and index finger, and weighs 520 g, allowing for improved portability and sufficient force exertion (13.9 N) for day-to-day pinching. To test for usability, eleven subjects aged 65 years and above performed a pinch-lift-hold test on various household objects. The pinch force before and after utilising the device was measured. Using Minitab 18, the statistical significance of using this device was analysed with a paired-samples t-test. With this device, the elderly people’s pinching abilities si...

This study is to reorganize current layout at dispatching area of a manufacturing industry which produces apparel products. Current arrangement at the dispatching area has brought to a poor efficiency rate of 48.74% that consumed 30.77 minutes to complete one dispatching job with distance travel of 162.83 meters. Witness simulation study is used in this project methodology and Facility Planning Process approach is applied in the experimental design to generate alternative layout. Result of the alternative layout has reduced the current time to 32.79% and only consumes 20.68 minutes to complete one dispatching job with shorter distance travel of 109.44 meters.

To avoid these disorders, ergonomists and engineers require an integrated measurement system which allows them to study the interaction of body posture and muscle effort during performing MMH tasks. However, far too little attention has been paid to develop an integrated measurement system of body posture and muscle activity for assessing MMH tasks. The aim of this study was to develop and test a prototype of integrated system for measuring postural angles and electromyography (EMG) signals of a worker who doing MMH tasks. The Microsoft Visual Studio software, a 3D camera (Microsoft Kinect), Advancer Technologies muscle sensors and a microcontroller (NI DAQ USB-6000) were applied to develop the integrated postural angle and EMG signal measurement system. Additionally, a graphical user interface was created in the system to enable user...

Providing a real-time postural measurement tool has attracted the attention of many human postural-related researchers. This study has developed and performed a validation analysis on a new innovative system for sampling and finding the angles of motions of each posture with its related joints using Kinect camera. The validation investigated the static and dynamic accuracy analyses by comparing to a Jamar goniometer and ErgoFellow system. The results showed that Mean Absolute Errors of Kinect in static and dynamic motions are 15.12% and 45.33% respectively. It is concluded that the postural measurement system developed by this study requires further improvements.

Two different designs of jig (vertical and rectangular) and two sets of assembly line design (one and two operators) and two set of workstations design (sitting and standing) were studied to observe their effects to productivity. Design of Experiments 2 3 with two levels of each factor is used to conduct an experiment for obtaining the most productive jig and assembly line design. Two groups of workers were employed to assemble the plug in 8 different ways. Number of replication is 32 for each setting and total of electric plugs produced by each group is 256 units. The results shows that jig design have the most significant effect to the assembly time. Furthermore, the other factors: assembly design and workstation design are also show significant factors to assembly time. It will minimize the problem of out of stock and over stock. The case company has a problem in controlling the availability of components, namely the occurrence of shortages of stock that caused the production process disrupted. The ABC analysis method is used to see the classification of components often out of stock. Inventory planning methods with continuous review and periodic review method were compared to determine optimal ordering lots, and reorder points. It also examined inventory policies, namely service level, safety stock, ordering costs, holding costs, and cost due to possible shortages. The results showed that for this particular problem continuous review is better than periodic review. It offered saving of the total inventory costs 16% of the actual inventory cost. Whereas, for the periodic review method saved of 6% of the actual cost of inventory.

In meticulous work that engages pinch grips, object size can perhaps have a considerable effect on pinch force. Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the effects of size on pinch force, with an emphasis on small apparatus such as knobs that are operated in loaded and unloaded conditions. Results: This study concludes that pinch force is significantly affected by size under a loaded condition. For an unloaded condition, size does not significantly affect pinch force since there is no loading effect from the structure which causes the forces to be similar across different sizes. The average pinch force exerted on the large size knobs is the lowest compared to the other sizes since the fingers extend further and cause the contact area between the finger pads and the object surface to be lesser. This eventually lowers the applied normal force. Conclusion: This study contributes to the knowledge of the effects of object size on pinch force. It can potentially be used as a reference in the enhancement of both safety and design so as to allow hand-related manual work to be less strenuous and more accommodating to the users' fingers.
