Once a normalized behavior, 1 bullying has evolved into a problem that some students have sought ... more Once a normalized behavior, 1 bullying has evolved into a problem that some students have sought to resolve with substance use, dropping out, suicide, or mass shootings. 2,3 There have been 417 gun violence in schools since Columbine. In these shootings, more than 383,000 students have been killed. 4 Most offenders of mass shootings were targets of persistent bullying by peers. 3 While 69% of shooters had observable mental health symptoms before their attack, 3 92% to 100% of mass shooters were depressed at the time of the shooting, 5 57% had behavioral symptomology, and 20% had neurological/developmental symptoms. 3 Neurological/Developmental symptoms include specific learning disabilities, cognitive deficits, developmental delays, delayed language acquisition, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). 3 Moreover, there is a link between demoralization and mental health disorders. 6 Demoralization is a "constant experience of inability to cope, with feelings of helplessness, hopelessness, meaninglessness, a subjective sense of incompetence, and low self-esteem" (p. 2). 7 It may precede depression and is often caused by major trauma (e.g., cancer). 7

The first principles and causes are most knowable; for by reason of these, and from these, all ot... more The first principles and causes are most knowable; for by reason of these, and from these, all other things come to be known, and not these by means of the things subordinate to them.-Aristotle, Metaphysics 350 BCE/1924: 3 Democracy in the United States (U.S.) is often defined as a government of, by, and for the people. While the government of and by the people is extensively discussed in political science, democracy as a government for the people seldom is. What is more uncommon is for democracy to be framed around a first principles framework rather than one based on democratic values. However, for democracy to thrive, enhancing the quality of democracy in America is necessary to improve personal and national well-being. Therefore, for a rational and prudent society to protect the ideal of popular government, a theoretical framework for democracy that transcends our current understanding of the concept and aligns it with a government for the people was developed in this study. The thesis of the first principles of democracy is that knowledge, fairness, human dignity, hope, unity, and security are the fundamental essence of the democratic values in the American founding documents and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights [1]. Historically, democratic values have narrowed the parameters of human rights and, therefore, of what constitutes respect for human dignity. Current legislators have adopted a democratic values approach that focuses on culturally derived American democratic values (e.g., justice, due process, human rights, equality, liberty, and participation [2, 3] versus an approach of the first principles of democracy abstracted from "the basic initial assumption of" democracy [4]. In doing so, social policies are restricted to popular cultural values of the time (e.g., slavery, disenfranchisement of felony offenders, exclusion of the LGBTQ community, reverse redlining, and the exploitation of incarcerated workers). These policies lack human dignity and are not based on a foundation of knowledge, fairness, hope, unity, and security. Using the constructivist tradition of grounded theory and Aristotle's conception of abstraction, the article proposes a theory of the first principles of democracy based on substantive data: the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, The Federalist Papers, and the United States Constitution. Knowledge, fairness, human dignity, hope, unity, and security are the first principles of democracy and are regarded as the bedrock of democracy and a government framework for the people. This theory contributed to a formal model of democratic social change. It also contributes a conceptual framework that supports Solum's semantic originalism, a theory of constitutional interpretation. The principles of democracy can revitalize democracy and provide new possibilities by protecting education as an innate human right, abolishing capital punishment, criminalizing private prisons on the stock market, and reevaluating the proportionality of prison sentences.

Although there are numerous substantive marketing frameworks, no formal marketing theory exists. This study aims to develop the first formal grounded theory in marketing by incorporating artificial intelligence and Forde's conceptual framework as a guiding lens. Charmaz's constructivist grounded theory tradition and Forde's conceptual framework and data analysis strategy were employed for this purpose. The data analysis strategy used with grounded theory’s constant compare-and-contrast method comprises holistic and systems thinking, dramaturgical and situational analysis, perspective-taking, and deconstruction. To evaluate Glaser’s assertion that all is data, artificial intelligence was incorporated into the research as the data source for retrieving the theoretical samples to address the primary research question: How can Forde's conceptual framework and artificial intelligence be leveraged to develop a formal marketing theory grounded in evidence? Of significance was the emergence of democratic marketing behaviors and the normalization of anti-democratic marketing approaches leveraged to manipulate buyers or gain access to segments of customers. Buyers and sellers can simultaneously benefit from and be prejudiced by marketing exchange dynamics. This finding lends credibility to the newly emerged framework of strategic actions where empowerment and disempowerment are leveraged to achieve specific goals. Considering this finding, it is suggested that businesses view marketing as a symbiotic relationship between two power centers, buyers, and sellers, who respectively strive to maintain human dignity and sustainability. Researchers are encouraged to apply the framework across substantive areas, international markets, public relations, political campaigns, and others.

Background: The United States symbolizes democracy in the new world and contributes to global pro... more Background: The United States symbolizes democracy in the new world and contributes to global prosperity. Nevertheless, incrementalism is a historically dominant national approach to public policy implementation that delays democracy and undermines human dignity. Human flourishing and national development are endangered by slow-moving democratic changes. This necessitates a social justice framework that traces the exploitation of incrementalism and the consequences of opportunity gaps. Objectives: This study aimed to answer and address the following research question: Are anti-democratic concepts part of a process or strategy that hinders democratic change, and what reinforces it, if anything? Methods: Two categories emerged from a grounded theory of democratic social change. This combination of anti-democratic tenets and democratic principles led to abductive reasoning to fill the research gap. Results: The key finding was the existence of a systematic approach that led to democracy while simultaneously disempowering the same group through legal and extralegal means. Two processes hinder democracy: incrementalism and an anti-democratic demoralizing process. A constructivist social justice grounded theory was developed to analyze and evaluate public policy for barriers and facilitators of democracy. A thorough analysis and evaluation of the impact and consequences of public policy is recommended to better understand how such policies impede democracy and influence American perceptions of justice.

Introduction Democracy has long been associated with quality of life (Radcliff & Shufeldt, 2016; Wang et al., 2019) and the protection of human rights worldwide (Lacey, 2016). In addition, researchers have established a correlation between democracy levels and well-being scores (Radcliff & Shufeldt, 2016). The 11 well-being dimensions that measure democracy are civic engagement, environmental quality, health, housing, income and wealth, knowledge and skills, safety, social connections, subjective well-being, work-life balance, and work and job quality (OECD, 2020). These well-being markers are supported by the UN General Assembly's Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) and its UN Framework Principles on Human Rights and the Environment (Knox, 2018). The OECD (2013) has moved away from solely considering factors based on economic-system measures of well-being and implemented a more meaningful measure of well-being that accounts for objective and subjective measures: the distribution of people, outcomes, and well-being among groups. The evaluation of these markers suggests that United States citizens rate their well-being lower than those of other nations of comparable economic development (OECD, 2020). Social disparity in America has long been a problem, despite the nation being the leading model of global democratic freedom. In contrast, Switzerland ranks as the 20th largest economy but the third most costly country to live in (OECD, 2019). Nevertheless, Swiss nationals enjoy a higher life satisfaction score, 7.5, than the United States, 6.9-only 0.2 points higher than the OECD (2020) average of 6.7. Although the 11 dimensions are not absolute markers for democracy, and it is impossible to determine whether Switzerland's direct democracy is solely responsible for its high life satisfaction score, the lower quality of life score assigned by Americans indicates compromised well-being and the need for improvements in the areas of human, social, economic, and natural capital (OECD, 2020). The low well-being score may indicate that social inequalities are diminishing America's life satisfaction score.

As a result, the Founders created a government more likely to lead with fairness, demonstrate respect for human dignity, unite Americans as one people, empower citizens through hope, and lead the nation toward security. This socio-ethical framework was an abductive discovery nested within a grounded theory study where it had been concluded that the first principles of democracy were woven
within the American founding documents. Using Charmaz’s constructivist grounded theory, the first principles of democracy—knowledge, fairness, human dignity, hope, unity, and security—were used to answer an emerging research question: Are there two democratic frameworks in the founding documents, and how do they differ? It shares my latest experience incorporating various data analysis strategies with the constructivist approach: holistic and systems thinking, situational analysis, dramaturgical analysis, perspective taking, and abstraction. Introduction This article discusses the interplay of power between American colonists and Great Britain's monarchy based on America's founding documents, specifically the Declaration of Independence, where the Founders recorded the anti-democratic tenets leveraged by Great Britain against colonists and the colonists' counterstrategy to gain independence. Great Britain's anti-democratic strategy included species of dehumanization, subjugation, nativism, social distinctions, fear, and misinformation. The Founders leveraged a counterstrategy of knowledge, human dignity, fairness, hope, unity, and security, or their species. Their goal was to establish a new form of government that fostered trust, nurtured hope, and enlarged the concept of self-determination beyond the government to include individuals. Understanding the interplay of power between these two parties requires a review of the type of government the American Founders wished to abolish and the species of democratic government they sought to establish. The Declaration of Independence emphasized a government empowered by the people and foreshadowed the principles of empowerment embedded in the Constitution that uphold respect for human dignity, leading to security. Knowing the power of words, the Founders empowered American colonists to pursue independence through sentiments promoted by Jefferson and the leaders of the Continental Congress through the idea that: Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these Ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its Foundation on such Principles, and organizing its Powers in such Form, as to them shall seem most likely to affect their Safety and Happiness. It is their Right, it is their Duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future Security.

The polarities of democracy framework is used to achieve human emancipation by simultaneously man... more The polarities of democracy framework is used to achieve human emancipation by simultaneously managing multiple paradoxes by employing Johnson's polarity management as the conceptual framework. Although Johnson's framework may be appropriate for managing other tension-dependent pairs, it is less suitable for managing multiple democratic values when the goal is human emancipation and sustainable democratic social change. Managing multiple polarities is exacerbated by the problem-shifting and problem-creation effect inherent in a tension-driven framework. The aim was to develop a constructivist grounded theory to answer the research question: How can the first principles of democracy be used to reduce dynamic tension and achieve human emancipation? This gap has been filled by a parsimonious conceptual framework based on three democratic principles: human dignity, fairness, and knowledge. The principles of democracy conceptual framework can synthesize the tension between democratic values in order to manage, plan, and evaluate democratic social change initiatives.

One of the most significant problems in the area of learning disabilities and delinquency is fail... more One of the most significant problems in the area of learning disabilities and delinquency is failure in recognizing the characteristics of the LD by the juvenile justice system. Therefore, a number of useful techniques, skills, and strategies are provided to help court officers, educators, mental health professionals, and community service providers divert at-risk youths from the system. This study also answers the question of whether the juvenile justice system continues to work in the best interest of the youth they have been entrusted to serve under the doctrine of Parens Patriae. It will be confined to secondary data analysis gathered from the Urban Government Division of Corrections in Lexington, Kentucky, using a survey methodology. The responses of 171 juvenile males and females between the ages of 9 to 18 will be analyzed to measure the LD population in Lexington’s correctional institution.
