Lauren Anderson Broke Barriers at Houston Ballet

Lauren Anderson was the first African American principal dancer at Houston Ballet in 1990—two and a half decades before Misty Copeland became the first black woman promoted to principal at American Ballet Theatre. Anderson dedicated her career after the stage to teaching, and to diversity in ballet.
