The River Coquet rises in the spectacular Cheviot Hills on the English/Scottish border and then twists and turns through Upper Coquetdale eventually reaching the sea at Amble on the Northumberland coast. On the south and west side of the river in this part of the Cheviot Hills lies the British Army's Otterburn Training Area, which occupies roughly 25% of the Northumberland National Park.
