Matthew Foreman
Dr. Matthew R. Foreman currently holds a Max Planck Postdoctoral Research position in the Optics Theory Group at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light in Erlangen, Germany.
Having graduated from Oxford University, where he was a member of Trinity College, in 2006 with a MPhys degree, he moved to the Photonics group at Imperial College London. Under the supervision of Prof. Peter Török, Matthew successfully completed his PhD entitled "Informational limits in optical polarimetry and vectorial imaging" in 2010, whereupon he was awarded an EPSRC PhD Plus fellowship for the continuation of his work on single molecule polarisation microscopy. In 2010 Matthew was further awarded a visiting lectureship at the National Yang Ming University in Taiwan, working within the Modern Optics Laboratory.
After working on the European Union funded SURPASS project, Matthew secured an EPSRC Knowledge Transfer Secondment fellowship, whereupon he was based at the UK National Physical Laboratory within the Engineering Measurement Department, where his work focused on calibration and correction of optical instruments in surface metrology. Subsequently Matthew took up a Max Planck Postdoctoral Research position at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light in Erlangen, Germany, before being awarded an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship for his work on hybrid plasmonic-photonic whispering gallery mode sensors in the Nanophotonics and Biosensing Laboratory. Matthew also currently holds a visiting academic position at Imperial College London.
