On the fireplace, I used three coats of Retique It Light Wood Color Liquid Wood before it was ready to stain. My other projects have only required two coats; however, you have to make sure you have solid coverage of liquid wood before applying the stain. You will see any uncovered areas through the stain. I stained with Minwax Provincial Stain and topped with Varathane Matte Polyurethane.

- Wipe down surfaces to remove any dirt.
- Apply two coats of liquid wood at least two hours apart. I used the Retique It Light Wood Color.
- Apply one to two coats of stain. Allow 6 hours in between coats. I used Minwax Provincial Stain. I allowed the stain to sit on the surface for about 2 minutes before wiping it off with “white rags”.
- Apply one coat of poly after 48 hours. I used Varathane Matte Polyurethane.
- Enjoy!
