This method promotes interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving, as well as fostering a sense of self-esteem, competence, and social responsibility. The aim of service learning is to connect students to meaningful service in the school and community and to promote civic competency. Service learning is not only relevant to the field of Social Studies, but it is also being explored in various other fields such as economics, management, psychology, sociology, and education. Research has shown that students who are engaged in service learning are more motivated and committed to addressing social challenges. Despite its potential, the teaching of Social Studies in Nigeria often lacks practical application, making it difficult for students to see the relevance of what they learn. This paper argues that service learning should be infused into the Social Studies curriculum for a more inclusive and saner world.

This study, therefore, examined undergraduates’ entrepreneurial intentions and the contributions of the University Entrepreneurial programme to undergraduate entrepreneurial development in Oyo State, Nigeria. The study adopted a mixed methods research design. A total of 150 undergraduates were selected using a multi-stage sampling technique. A validated questionnaire was used to collect the data. The quantitative data was analysed using descriptive statistics of mean, and standard deviation while the qualitative data was presented using content analysis. The findings of the study revealed that both entrepreneurial intentions of undergraduates and the perception of undergraduates on the contributions of the entrepreneurship programme were high, (x = 2.72 > 2.50) and (x = 3.10 > 2.50) respectively. From the findings, it was recommended that the universities’ entrepreneurship programme, should be comprehensive and run through the 200 to 400 level; lecturers should adopt experiential learning which would give undergraduates the opportunity to be well-trained as prospective entrepreneurs and eventually reduce unemployment and at the long run reduce Japa syndrome in Nigeria among others in society.

In spite of the establishment of several government and private-owned universities in Nigeria, most of these tertiary institutions have been criticised for not meeting the objectives of their establishment. This is because gaps between the gown and the town exist to the extent that the functionality of the education provided and the relevance of the certificates awarded to the society are being questioned. However, service learning was one of the ways used to bridge the gaps between the universities and communities in some of the developed and developing countries. This study therefore examined the extent to which lecturers incorporate service learning into teaching learning process. The study adopted mixed research design. Three research questions were posed for the study. Validated Service learning Structure Interview Schedule (r= 0.826) was administered to One hundred and fifty lecturers selected from three Universities in Southwest, Nigeria using multi stage sampling technique. The data collected was analysed using descriptive statistic and content analysis. The results and implications of the findings were discussed while recommendations were also made.

However, successful teaching of climate change education depends on some factors. The most important is the content and pedagogical knowledge of the teachers. Thus, this paper investigated the level of preparedness of teachers in teaching climate change, specifically the concept of ‘green economy’. The study adopted descriptive survey research. Teachers’ Understanding of Environmental Sustainability and Green Economy Test (r= 0.79) were used to collect data from 100 teachers using multi stage sampling technique. The data collected was analyzed using frequency counts, percentages and ANOVA) at 0.05 level of significance. The study revealed that 72.9% of the teachers have never heard green economy while 38.6% heard about environmental sustainability and green economy. Teachers in the three subject grouping areas had poor understanding of concepts of ‘environmental sustainability and green economy’. There are variations in the level of knowledge demonstrated (Science 7.7, Social science 5.4 and Arts 4.1). It was recommended that green curriculum vis-à-vis climate change education should be introduced into the teacher training institutions and regular training and workshops be organized for teachers among others.

Service-learning is a teaching and learning strategy that allows students to impart their knowledge and skills to solve problems in the community. Although it has been implemented in some Nigerian universities, servicelearning is relatively new to the educational system in Nigeria. Therefore, this exploratory study aims to identify the impact of service-learning on the students who have actively participated in such programs. Data were collected through interview and subsequently analysed using the Nvivo software. The findings showed that the service-learning programs are educationally valuable and impactful on the students. Therefore, the incorporation of service-learning into the Nigerian university curriculum is recommended.

The study was guided by two research questions, adopted a qualitative research approach and utilised phenomenology design. A purposive sampling technique was used to select all students from the departments of Educational Management, Arts and Social Sciences Education, Adult Education, Guidance and Counselling Education, and Special Education who had taken Economics Methods. The reason for the selection of the students was that they had participated in service learning and would be able to provide answers to the research questions. Focus group discussion and key informant interview guides were used to collect data from the participants. The ATLAS. ti qualitative software package was used to analyse the data. The findings of the study revealed that service learning was an effective strategy for preparing pre-service teachers for the world of work as it gives undergraduates an opportunity to get involved in communal services such as tutoring, advocacy, and environmental sustainability, among others. It also enhances students' employability skills, such as financial literacy, project management, teamwork, and resourcefulness. However, many Nigerians engage in actions that are inimical to the sustainability of the environment. Researchers have focused attention on factors responsible for this problem, particularly among learners, such as instructional strategies which are neither participatory nor community-based. This study, therefore, investigated the effects of service learning and educational trips instructional strategies that are not only participatory but also outdoor in social studies on primary school pupils' environmental practices in Ekiti, Osun, and Oyo States, Nigeria. Three null hypotheses were formulated and tested at a 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted a pretest, posttest, and control group quasi-experimental design. The environmental practices scale was used to elicit responses from 264 primary 5 pupils in 12 schools purposively selected. The data generated were analysed using Analysis of Covariance, Multiple Classification Analysis, and Scheffe Post Hoc Test. It was found that there was a significant main effect of treatment on pupils' environmental practices. Also, school location had a significant main effect on the pupils' environmental practices. The two strategies are, therefore recommended for incorporation in the teaching of Social Studies at Primary schools to promote environmental sustainability.
