Although many experts have examined hate speech on Facebook social media, little is known about t... more Although many experts have examined hate speech on Facebook social media, little is known about the hate speech of the Kendari community. To fill this void, the empirical study examines Kendari community's hate speech on Facebook social media. The research adopted a qualitative research approach with a case study research design. Data were garnered by analyzing documents, conducting in-depth interviews, and distributing questionnaires. Document analysis was used to examine types of hate speech, while in-depth interviews and questionnaires were conducted to analyze why hate speech emerged. The findings showed that the types of hate speech in Kendari community were classified into five, namely (1) defamation, (2) insults, (3) blasphemy, (4) incitement, and (5) spreading hoaxes. The factors causing hate speech are classified into internal and external factors. Internal factors include hurt and fun factors, while external factors encompass political interests, group interests, and SARA. Because hate speech has legal implications, this research is expected to foster critical awareness of the community to avoid legal cases related to hate speech.

Methodology: The research method used in this study is a qualitative method, in-depth interview. Data collection was done through interview sessions with students from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Main Findings: The findings showed that the use of Google Classroom was effective with various limitations: (1) not all students got an account what was provided by the lecturers because they did not have a smartphone, (2) Wi-Fi availability in the campus was limited and (3) the students did not have enough mobile data plan during the time of online discussion and even some students submitted their assignments using their friends’ account. The news was analyzed using appraisal system proposed by Martin and White (2005). The appraisal system in this article covered attitude, graduation, and engagement of the news. This research used mixed-method that was the combination of qualitative and quantitative method. The result showed that the attitudes were 47,82% appreciation, 30,43% affect, and 21,74% judgment. The attitudes were dominated with negative appreciation, negative affect, and negative judgment. The graduation system was dominated with force with 100% in which 95,65% attitudinal lexis and 4,35% metaphor. The level of graduation was high. Data were from the news of “trick of political identity” in Tirto online media. Data analysis was conducted using Spradley's theory modified by Santosa. The results indicate that appraisal system pattern of 212 reunion movement utilize attitude (43%), graduation (15%) and engagement system (42%). The attitude system uses a 42% affective subsystem pattern and 58% subsystem judgment. Graduation system uses a 70% force and 30% focus pattern. The engagement system is dominated by the use of heterogloss patterns of 82% rather than 18% monoglos. This percentage shows that the author discusses political identity in the 212 movement reunion. In his writing, the author is objective, neutral, independent and adheres to the principle of professionalism. Although research on the literal and interpretive translation methods have been extensively explo... more Although research on the literal and interpretive translation methods have been extensively explored, little attention has been invested in criticizing these translation methods. This research aims to evaluate the interpretive translation method from the canon of translation studies by investigating some techniques, methods, and ideology of the translation in Muhammad Thalib's Quranic Translation of surah al-Wāqiah into Indonesian. This research employs a critical qualitative-cased study design. The results indicate that the translator applied several translation techniques in the translation of surah al-Wāqiah: established equivalence (47.05%), amplification (explication) (25.16%), implicitation (8.31%), modulation (6.12%), amplification (paraphrasing) (5.03%), transposition (2.85%), compensation (2.63%), discursive creation (1.31%), reduction (0.66%), pure borrowing (0. 44%), particularization (0.22%), and paraphrasing discursive creation (0.22%). These techniques are categorized under communicative translation method and domestication translation ideology. This research implies that the interpretive translation method is not dependable and serves as a unit of analysis to dissect Qur'anic translation text, given that it lies at the meso level. Therefore, this method must be reconstructed using translation techniques at the micro level. For this reason, the translators need to be more competent not only in bilingual, transfer, and cultural competencies, but also in declarative and procedural translation competencies as well.

social harmony. This study aims to investigate students’
perceptions on promoting social harmony through intercultural
communication practices in Indonesia as a multi ethnic and
multi culture country. It also investigates the elements that are
needed to build social harmony in Indonesia, so that the
government of the Republic of Indonesia could take the study
report as a reference for formulating policy in social
development in Indonesia. This study uses a mix-methods
research design (quantitative-qualitative) with a descriptive
statistical paradigm that describes the mean, SD, percentage,
weight, and rank followed by a detailed explanation of the
statements given by the subject. The subjects of this study
were students of the Department of English, Faculty of
Language and Literature, Universitas Negeri Makassar for the
2019/2020 academic year. The research instrument was a
closed and open questionnaire. Therefore, this study indicates
that: (1) The results show that several positive behaviors of
people from different ethnic groups need to be encouraged, for
example tolerance, mutual understanding, mutual respect, not
demeaning different tribes, and (2) The results also show that
positive stereotypes and inclusive behavior are very important
in building social harmony and peace in multi-ethnic countries.
The implication of this research is to build social harmony in
Indonesia as a multiethnic country that is hampered by
hundreds of ethnic groups, cross-cultural competence (CCC)
and intercultural communication are very important among
Indonesian people, especially for millennials as important
elements of social life.

To fill this void, this study aims to explore how Arabic pre-service teachers perception on online learning during the pandemic. Observations and in-depth interviews were carried out in the data collection process. The results of the study indicate that Arabic pre-service teachers' perceptions relating to the basic needs of online learning consist of four things; competence, arousal, self-determination, and relatedness. Finally, this research implies not only contextual but also empirical and policy contributions.

Al-Hurûf al-muqaththa'ah di dalam al-Qur'an dipandang oleh sebagian umat Islam tekstualis hanya s... more Al-Hurûf al-muqaththa'ah di dalam al-Qur'an dipandang oleh sebagian umat Islam tekstualis hanya sebagai simbol yang sakral tanpa makna, sehingga tidak menunjukkan sisi kemanfatannya sebagai pedoman. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap makna ayat al-hurûf al-muqaththa'ah dalam Q.S. al-Baqarah/2: 1., dengan menggunakan metode kajian literatur yang meliputi tafsir, sastra bahasa Arab dan sejarah. Analisis data menggunakan pendekatan gramatikal bahasa Arab secara tekstual dan historis secara kontekstual. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa al-hurûf al-muqaththa'ah menjadi potret bagi sumber dan proses turunnya al-Qur'an secara autentik yang menunjukkan kelemahan sastra Arab saat berhadapan dengan wahyu. Keistimewaan al-hurûf al-muqaththa'ah terletak pada nilai sastra dan kedalaman makna yang seyogianya dapat berperan aktif sebagai perekat ayat-ayat al-Qur'an lainnya secara holistik.

The prosodic system includes the duration, frequency and intensity of multiethnic student's voice based on gender and ethnicity variables. This research is an experimental study using Praat software and then analyzed using SPSS 16. The results showed that (1) women's voice duration is faster, the frequency is higher, and the intensity is louder than men based on gender variables. (2) based on ethnic variables, students from Sulawesi have a faster speaking duration and higher voice frequency than students from Java and Sumatra. For issues of volume, student voices vary. For the initial intensity, the voice of students from Sulawesi is louder than students from Java and Sumatra. For the final intensity, i.e. highest intensity and lowest intensity, students from Java speak louder than students from Sumatra and Sulawesi.

Al-Qur'an Translation in Indonesia: A Case Study of Muhammad Thalib's Qur'an Translation with Reference to Surah Yasin

The research on the effect of translation techniques on the quality of Muhammad Talib's Surah Yas... more The research on the effect of translation techniques on the quality of Muhammad Talib's Surah Yasin translation is scarce. In that regard, this research aims to explore the impact of the translation techniques on the quality of translation in surah Yasin. To collect data, observation and focused grup discussion were conducted. The findings revealed that the translation techniques applied in Muhammad Talib's were amplification (paraphrasing) technique (27.13%), established equivalent (25.99%), explicitation (15.5%), implicitation (12.8%), modulation (8.52%), compensation (3.48%), transposition (2.32%) and discursive creation (1.55%). The finding from the analysis also showed that the translation was of average quality. Hence, this study suggests that the use of amplification translation techniques (paraphrase) in addition to extending the translated text, it might also be used to incorporate the discursive idea of the translator into the translated text. This makes the translated text seems to have a certain translator's ideology.

This article is aimed at describing the forms of the politeness of the speakers who are in anger. The data were taken in West Sumatera. To obtain the data, note-taking, recording, and interviewing was conducted. The data were analyzed by using the concept of politeness and verbal violence against women. The result of the analysis is descriptively done in which some tables and charts were used to display the number of the occurrence of certain data. The findings pointed out that there were four forms of politeness in domestic verbal violence. They are politeness of request; refusal; promise; and expressiveness. Politeness of requests occurs most dominantly (37%) because the speakers wanted these women to do what they expected

Adnan's script or type of writing differs from the standard style of script from the Middle East. In his hand, creative processes and various dynamics of aesthetic aspects tend to glide calmly. Syaiful Adnan has had solo and collective exhibitions at home and abroad which present the holy verses of the Qur'an as well as hadith and Mahfudzot or words of wisdom as central themes. This research uses archival research method to study various references and documentation as well as direct interviews. Data is analysed inductively by organizing it, describing it into units, synthesizing, composing into patterns, choosing what is important and what will be studied, and present it in this article. The study discovered that spiritual aspects found in Syaiful Adnan's calligraphy painting is a form of representation of monotheism and dhikr. The oneness of Allah can easily be understood through a series of verses of the Qur'an that contain all the greatness, majesty and omnipotence of the Almighty. From here we can see that the works of Syaiful Adnan were made a communication medium for the audience's awareness and Syaiful Adnan's own self. This article aims to reveal the meaning of the verse al-hurûf al-muqaththa'ah in the Q.S. al-Baqa... more This article aims to reveal the meaning of the verse al-hurûf al-muqaththa'ah in the Q.S. al-Baqarah/ 2: 1 by employing a historical and literature review method with textual and historical context grammatical approaches data analysis. The results of the study show that it portray the source and process of authentic Qur'an revelation. The mysterious eloquence of al-hurûf al-muqaththa'ah lies in the literary value and the depth of meaning even though it consists only of a series of letters. The effort of the commentator to uncover the meaning of the verses of al-hurûf al-muqaththa'ah should be able to play an active role as the uniting factor for other Qur'anic verses holistically. Therefore, a set of methods or approaches is required that is adequate to uncover the meaning that is in accordance with the thematic contexts of the verse. This study used a type of qualitative research with ethnographic of communication method. To collect data, observation and documentation were conducted. Data analysis was performed using content analysis from Spradley. The results of the study indicate that tiered clarification system or tabayyun is very important to do in our life, particularly in the revolutional industry 4.0. This phenomenon is reflected in the communication patterns carried out by Najwa Shihab, Quraish Shihab, and Priest Budi in Narasi TV. Ethnography of communication well-known as SPEAKING by Hymes in the form of settings, participants, ends, acts, keys, instruments, norms, and genres are the reasons why the communication pattern uses a tiered clarification system.

This research is aimed at finding out the influence of lecturers' language style on students' aca... more This research is aimed at finding out the influence of lecturers' language style on students' academic self-efficacy in higher education in Indonesia. This research is conducted to describe the correlation between lecturers' language style and students' academic. As one of the aspects of forming academic self-efficacy, language style has an important role because someone who can get information verbally about his ability in mastering certain duty tends to do more efforts. In addition, it makes him more diligent in doing a duty. Also, language style positively increases the student's self-confidence and vice verse. This research involves seventy students who fill in the questionnaire about the lecturer language style and academic self-efficacy scale. Data were analyzed by using simple linear regression analysis. The result of the research shows that lecturer's language style has a coefficient of determination of 23.5% towards the students' academic self-efficacy. Finally, this research affirms that positive lecturer language style can improve the students' belief towards their ability while the negative language style can weaken the students' self-efficacy. This is supported by the statement of Pajares (2002) who state that the negative language style can easily weaken the students' self efficacy.

report as a reference for formulating policy in social
development in Indonesia. This study uses a mix-methods
research design (quantitative-qualitative) with a descriptive
statistical paradigm that describes the mean, SD, percentage,
weight, and rank followed by a detailed explanation of the
statements given by the subject. The subjects of this study
were students of the Department of English, Faculty of
Language and Literature, Universitas Negeri Makassar for the
2019/2020 academic year. The research instrument was a
closed and open questionnaire. Therefore, this study indicates
that: (1) The results show that several positive behaviors of
people from different ethnic groups need to be encouraged, for
example tolerance, mutual understanding, mutual respect, not
demeaning different tribes, and (2) The results also show that
positive stereotypes and inclusive behavior are very important
in building social harmony and peace in multi-ethnic countries.
The implication of this research is to build social harmony in
Indonesia as a multiethnic country that is hampered by
hundreds of ethnic groups, cross-cultural competence (CCC)
and intercultural communication are very important among
Indonesian people, especially for millennials as important
elements of social life.

To fill this void, this study aims to explore how Arabic pre-service teachers perception on online learning during the pandemic. Observations and in-depth interviews were carried out in the data collection process. The results of the study indicate that Arabic pre-service teachers' perceptions relating to the basic needs of online learning consist of four things; competence, arousal, self-determination, and relatedness. Finally, this research implies not only contextual but also empirical and policy contributions.

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap makna ayat al-hurûf al-muqaththa'ah dalam Q.S. al-Baqarah/2: 1., dengan menggunakan metode kajian literatur yang meliputi tafsir, sastra bahasa Arab dan sejarah. Analisis data menggunakan pendekatan gramatikal bahasa Arab secara tekstual dan historis secara kontekstual. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa al-hurûf al-muqaththa'ah menjadi potret bagi sumber dan proses turunnya al-Qur'an secara autentik yang menunjukkan kelemahan sastra Arab saat berhadapan dengan wahyu. Keistimewaan al-hurûf al-muqaththa'ah terletak pada nilai sastra dan kedalaman makna yang seyogianya dapat berperan aktif sebagai perekat ayat-ayat al-Qur'an lainnya secara holistik.

The prosodic system includes the duration, frequency and intensity of multiethnic student's voice based on gender and ethnicity variables. This research is an experimental study using Praat software and then analyzed using SPSS 16. The results showed that (1) women's voice duration is faster, the frequency is higher, and the intensity is louder than men based on gender variables. (2) based on ethnic variables, students from Sulawesi have a faster speaking duration and higher voice frequency than students from Java and Sumatra. For issues of volume, student voices vary. For the initial intensity, the voice of students from Sulawesi is louder than students from Java and Sumatra. For the final intensity, i.e. highest intensity and lowest intensity, students from Java speak louder than students from Sumatra and Sulawesi.

Al-Qur'an Translation in Indonesia: A Case Study of Muhammad Thalib's Qur'an Translation with Reference to Surah Yasin

The research on the effect of translation techniques on the quality of Muhammad Talib's Surah Yas... more The research on the effect of translation techniques on the quality of Muhammad Talib's Surah Yasin translation is scarce. In that regard, this research aims to explore the impact of the translation techniques on the quality of translation in surah Yasin. To collect data, observation and focused grup discussion were conducted. The findings revealed that the translation techniques applied in Muhammad Talib's were amplification (paraphrasing) technique (27.13%), established equivalent (25.99%), explicitation (15.5%), implicitation (12.8%), modulation (8.52%), compensation (3.48%), transposition (2.32%) and discursive creation (1.55%). The finding from the analysis also showed that the translation was of average quality. Hence, this study suggests that the use of amplification translation techniques (paraphrase) in addition to extending the translated text, it might also be used to incorporate the discursive idea of the translator into the translated text. This makes the translated text seems to have a certain translator's ideology.

This article is aimed at describing the forms of the politeness of the speakers who are in anger. The data were taken in West Sumatera. To obtain the data, note-taking, recording, and interviewing was conducted. The data were analyzed by using the concept of politeness and verbal violence against women. The result of the analysis is descriptively done in which some tables and charts were used to display the number of the occurrence of certain data. The findings pointed out that there were four forms of politeness in domestic verbal violence. They are politeness of request; refusal; promise; and expressiveness. Politeness of requests occurs most dominantly (37%) because the speakers wanted these women to do what they expected

Adnan's script or type of writing differs from the standard style of script from the Middle East. In his hand, creative processes and various dynamics of aesthetic aspects tend to glide calmly. Syaiful Adnan has had solo and collective exhibitions at home and abroad which present the holy verses of the Qur'an as well as hadith and Mahfudzot or words of wisdom as central themes. This research uses archival research method to study various references and documentation as well as direct interviews. Data is analysed inductively by organizing it, describing it into units, synthesizing, composing into patterns, choosing what is important and what will be studied, and present it in this article. The study discovered that spiritual aspects found in Syaiful Adnan's calligraphy painting is a form of representation of monotheism and dhikr. The oneness of Allah can easily be understood through a series of verses of the Qur'an that contain all the greatness, majesty and omnipotence of the Almighty. From here we can see that the works of Syaiful Adnan were made a communication medium for the audience's awareness and Syaiful Adnan's own self. The results of the study show that it portray the source and process of authentic Qur'an revelation. The mysterious eloquence of al-hurûf al-muqaththa'ah lies in the literary value and the depth of meaning even though it consists only of a series of letters. The effort of the commentator to uncover the meaning of the verses of al-hurûf al-muqaththa'ah should be able to play an active role as the uniting factor for other Qur'anic verses holistically. Therefore, a set of methods or approaches is required that is adequate to uncover the meaning that is in accordance with the thematic contexts of the verse. This study used a type of qualitative research with ethnographic of communication method. To collect data, observation and documentation were conducted. Data analysis was performed using content analysis from Spradley. The results of the study indicate that tiered clarification system or tabayyun is very important to do in our life, particularly in the revolutional industry 4.0. This phenomenon is reflected in the communication patterns carried out by Najwa Shihab, Quraish Shihab, and Priest Budi in Narasi TV. Ethnography of communication well-known as SPEAKING by Hymes in the form of settings, participants, ends, acts, keys, instruments, norms, and genres are the reasons why the communication pattern uses a tiered clarification system.

This research is aimed at finding out the influence of lecturers' language style on students' aca... more This research is aimed at finding out the influence of lecturers' language style on students' academic self-efficacy in higher education in Indonesia. This research is conducted to describe the correlation between lecturers' language style and students' academic. As one of the aspects of forming academic self-efficacy, language style has an important role because someone who can get information verbally about his ability in mastering certain duty tends to do more efforts. In addition, it makes him more diligent in doing a duty. Also, language style positively increases the student's self-confidence and vice verse. This research involves seventy students who fill in the questionnaire about the lecturer language style and academic self-efficacy scale. Data were analyzed by using simple linear regression analysis. The result of the research shows that lecturer's language style has a coefficient of determination of 23.5% towards the students' academic self-efficacy. Finally, this research affirms that positive lecturer language style can improve the students' belief towards their ability while the negative language style can weaken the students' self-efficacy. This is supported by the statement of Pajares (2002) who state that the negative language style can easily weaken the students' self efficacy.

This research used qualitative paradigm with embedded case study. The results of the study showed that there were 52 directive expressions founded in the orientation, complication, and resolution. In the orientation, there were ordering (11,6%), demanding (3,8%), suggesting (1,9%), and asking (1,9%). In the conflict phase, directive expressions were in the form of ordering (19,2%), demanding (7,7%), commanding (7,7%), suggesting (3,8%), asking (1,9%). In the resolution phase, directive expressions were found in the form of suggesting (13,6%), ordering (11,6%), commanding (5,8%), demanding (3,8%), asking (1,9%), and inviting (1,9%). Ordering expressions dominated the orientation and conflict phase because the relationship between two characters were interpersonal relations in the form of power relation and peerage. Meanwhile, resolution phase are dominated with suggesting expressions because the relationship between two characters were close and the power relation diminished.

This matrilineal system brings about the welfare of women in Minangkabau due to heirloom property is handed down to the female children. Thus, women will not be a lack of material. This phenomenon is contradictory with the activity of violence toward women in Minangkabau. Many Minangkabau women become the victim of violence, even though these women have adequate material inherited from their mother. This writing then tries to describe the local wisdom that can be revitalized to reduce the activity of violence toward women in Minangkabau society. The aim of the research is to identify the local wisdom in Minangkabau that can prevent violence toward women. The research is conducted in three areas in West Sumatera, they are Padang, Payakumbuh, and Tanah Datar. The data are collected by having an interview, focus group discussion, and observation. The analysis is done by relating it to the concept of local wisdom in Minangkabau and Violence toward women proposed by Idriss and Abbs and also Revita, Wekke, and Trioclarise. The result of the analysis is descriptively presented. Having analyzed the data, there is at least three local wisdom. They are 1) Adat Basandi Syarak, Syarak Basandi Kitabullah, 2) Bundo Kanduang), and 3) Alam Takambang Jadi Guru.

It seems that this study realized that the concepts of social studies, culture and learning theories are key factors of learning a foreign language undoubtedly. A qualitative descriptive method was utilized in this research to collect the data through observation, interviews and library research. However, this paper only tried to share the data mostly from the library research due to its limitation. As a result this study believed that; socio-cultural factors, intercultural communicative competence, Whorfian hypothesis and learning environment as a learning media are the missing puzzles of the important elements to support nowadays language learning in Islamic higher institutions, especially in eastern Indonesia. This study tried to connecting these puzzles of the idea in order, to give some views for helping the institutions redesigning or constructing their learning environment to support language learning process. Beyond its limitations, this study sees an effective teaching and learning of social studies should bring about development not only to the individual learner but to the society in which such an individual lives and operates. This study realized also that learning in an individual is somehow a complex phenomenon and it's depending on a multitude of factors. In the end, this study recommended that Islamic higher institutions should start to see the school as a social system in implementing a multicultural education so it cannot be overemphasized and their duty is to create and sustain an effective multicultural school environment.

Hence, humor becomes extremely significant, particularly for teaching colleagues in Indonesia during break after teaching. Humor can enhance communication, self-confidence and intimacy, reduce stress, release fatigue and tension, motivate to work and stimulate creativity. With humor, teaching colleagues can discuss how to enhance teaching skills and utilize good media in learning process. This study aimed to examine the utilization of humor among teaching colleagues in Islamic State Institute of Kendari as one of the Islamic higher educations in Indonesia. Descriptive qualitative method was utilized to analyze data in this research. Interviewing, observing, and documenting were conducted to collect data. The research results revealed that in creating humor, teaching colleagues often utilize linguistic aspects such as phonological aspects. Those phonological aspects are substitution, permutation, decreasing, and addition. Those tend to utilize adaptive humor style pioneered by Martin et al. (2003) which can elevate happiness among teaching colleagues. When they feel happy, their work performance either individually or in a group to complete certain works will be improved, as well as their work relationship, cooperation and collaboration. Finally, this research confirms that phonological aspect is one of language elements to create humor and could affect the happiness which leads the lecturers to have good interpersonal relation, cooperation and collaboration in undertaking certain jobs among teaching colleagues in Indonesia.

Internalization of traditional values is important to filter out the negative influence of economic globalization, such as behaving wasteful and greedy, doing side and unfair, justifying any means, and taking away the rights of others. This article aims to describe a religious consciousness and national independence contained in Lontara pangaja. Lontara Pangaja is the Bugisi ancestral heritage manuscript containing a powerfull advices to counteract the negative effects of economic globalization with growing religious awareness or conscicousness, developing identity, and enhancing national independence. By using descriptive qualitative method and cultural linguistic approach, it's found that the religious consciousness which realized national independence in lontara Pangaja manuscript are nyamekkininnawa, temmappasilaingeng, alabong, allempureng, and aggettengeng. The implementation of religious consciousness began to be neglected by the young people of Bugisi believe to be a strong fortress to counter any negative effects of economic globalization which will soon be emerged by 2015.

The manuscript is a Bugisi ancestral heritage which began to be ignored by the young people today. By using qualitative descriptive methods, it’s found that the implementation of the script content in everyday life believed tobe able to transform the prophetic spirit for Bugisi young generation. The prophetic spirit is manini, maringgerrang, mappikiri rimunri, manyameng ati, and massalama. This is because Lontara Pananrang script provides guidance on good days and terrible days for Bugisi in performing daily activities, such as getting married, moving house, looking for a job, going abroad, engaging commerse, doing farming, preaching religion, even all aspects of life based on Qamariyah calendar. In addition, this manuscript indirectly affects the mindset, attitudes and behavior patterns of Bugisi people to start doing an activity which based on the prophetic spirit.

It’s aimed to reveal the diversity of berani lexem and it’s relation to the culture of Arabic society. It’s important to be discussed due to the well-known of Arabic societies with their bravery or courage, particularly in the development of Islam in prophethood times. The prophet of Muhammad and his companions, for example, were famous for their bravery or courage or valor, morever on the battlefield. The data were taken from the largest Arabic dictionary, Lisan al-Arab, which consists of 20 volumes, and the method used in this research was qualitative method. Based on this research, through the analysis of componential meaning, 22 lexemes of berani (brave) are retrieved. Those lexems are classified into five things. (1) Based on the tribe’s name, there are 3 lexems; buham, azmar, dan migwᾱr. (2) Based on the armaments, there are 5 lexems; șᾱrim, mijzᾱmah, kamiy, midrah, dan zamir. (3) Based on the metaphor, there are 4 lexems; nahȋk, ķuba’šinah, mis’ar, dan ‘amalwas. (4) Based on the time, there are 1 lexem; mikhsaf. (5) Based on the method used, there are 14 lexems; they are ‘albas, aswaṡ, bᾱsil, buhmah, galats, gaṡamṡam, migwᾱr, mijzᾱmah, mis’ar, najid, șᾱrim, șahmῑm, șamșᾱmah, dan zamir. Each of the lexems has the different componential meaning.

Pananrang Manuscript is ancestral heritage manuscript of Bugis which provides guidance and instructions on good days and terrible days in performing daily activities, such as getting married, moving house, looking for a job, going abroad, doing farming and gardening, preaching religion, even all aspects of life based on Qamariyah calendar. By using qualitative descriptive method and cultural linguistics approach, it's found that good and terrible days symbols are (1) animal symbols including anynyarang (horse), tedong (buffalo), saping (cow), bembei (goat), gajai (elephant), serigala (wolve), lanceng (monkey), ula (snake), ancale (grasshopper), kalapung (turtle), dongi-dongi (bittern), and manu (chicken) for the good day; macang (tiger), kalapung (turtle), and singa (lion) for the terrible day; while Jonga (deer), meyong (cat), balawo (rat), asu (dog), Nagai (dragon), iti (duck), bawi (swine), balipeng (scorpion) for good and terrible day, (2) time symbols, (3) mathematic symbols, and (4) constellations symbols. The disclosure of meaning behind these symbols refers to (1) the nature and character of each animal, (2) lucky and unlucky, and (3) happy and unhappy.

This study originated from the emergence of emotional pressure felt by the students in learning process which one of the factors comes from lecturers language style (Gunawan, 2016). This study utilized qualitative and quantitative method. Participants were 30 students and 10 lecturers. The findings showed that language style greatly affects students' emotional condition. That emotional aspect comprises shame, surprise, enjoyment, sadness, anxiety, anger, pride, and disappointment. Statistically, shame places the highest position with 86, 67%, followed by surprise 78.33%, then enjoyment 70%, sadness 68, 89%, anxiety 60%, anger 58.89%, pride 56.67%, and disappointment 30%. Finally, these findings become essential in psychology education due to it is in line with theory of Plutchik (1980) which argued that academic emotional condition could influence students' learning motivation and their interpersonal relationship to lecturers.

It is urgent to be conducted to reveal some political messages displayed in outdoor media. The data are obtained from the political campaign displayed on billboards and banners throughout Kendari city. By using qualitative descriptive research, it is found that the political campaign of mayor to be in Kendari uses several codes and prefers using direct speech act, direct literal speech act, and indirect literal speech act. Besides, the political campaign of the mayor-to be has some pragmatic forces, namely satire, intimacy, low profile, and disclosure of achievement. PENGANTAR Bahasa memiliki arti yang sangat penting dalam dunia politik. Bahasa menjadi media yang ampuh untuk menanamkan ideologi, merebut atau mendapatkan, serta mempertahankan kekuasaan. Berbagai piranti kebahasaan dimanfaatkan untuk meraih simpati, menarik perhatian, dan membuat persepsi terhadap suatu masalah, mengendalikan pikiran, prilaku serta nilai yang dianut khalayak. Hal ini senada dengan yang dingkapkan Sultan (2009) bahwa Prosesproses penanaman ideologis dan pengontrolan kekuasaan memerlukan bahasa sebagai alat ekspresi, seperti pidato politik, ceramah, khutbah, maupun iklan. Melalui bahasa, fungsi dan sarana dalam melakukan kontrol ideologis dan kekuasaan dapat dilakukan. Salah satu media yang sering digunakan untuk merealisasikan pengontrolan ideologis dan kekuasaan adalah iklan. Iklan merupakan suatu sistem tanda tergorganisir yang merefleksikan sikap, keyakinan, dan nilainilai tertentu. Setiap pesan dalam iklan memiliki dua tingkatan makna, yaitu makna yang dikemukakan secara ekplisit di permukaan dan makna yang dikemukakan secara implisit di balik tampilan iklan (Noviani dalam Kusrianti, 2004; 1). Lapisan makna dalam iklan membuat adanya potensi untuk mengaburkan makna. Artinya, dalam sebuah iklan, makna ambigu berpotensi untuk hadir. The objective of this study was to identify the instruction that usually given by the lecturer when teaching speaking and its impact to students' speaking improvement. The subjects of this study were three teachers of speaking classes for students in their third semester at the Muhammadiyah University in Kendari in the 2014/2015 academic year. This study used a descriptive qualitative design whereby data was gathered through classroom observations, recording of classroom activities and documentation. The findings showed that the lecturers' instructions were effective in improving the motivation of their students. Having students more fun in various activities, discussion, doing pair work to help each other in accomplishing task, and being motivated to complete complex tasks. The lecturers tended mostly to use direct instructions for teaching speaking. For example, asking frequent questions to see if the students understood the work they have to do, or by giving students frequent opportunities to practice what they have learned. By giving instructions, the students' motivation to speak increased. The students were also motivated to be more active in the teaching-learning processes that resulted in improvements in their speaking ability.

This study aims at presenting the effect of scaffolding on EFL students' writing ability in const... more This study aims at presenting the effect of scaffolding on EFL students' writing ability in constructing a report text by integrating Islamic values through the writing process and class presentations and capturing the students' perceptions after the teaching-learning instruction process when scaffolding was implemented in the EFL class. In this study, 26 students from the Islamic students major in an English IV class at the State Islamic Institute (IAIN) in Kendari, SouthEast Sulawesi, followed a writing process in portfolio and filled out a questionnaire. The writing process approach consisted of prewriting, revising, editing and publishing by presentation a final draft of the report text. The learning strategies were adopted from cycles and stages of learning proposed by Hammond, et al. (1992). Using experimental design, the data was analyzed quantitatively. Pre-tests and post-tests were conducted for assessing the outcomes achieved by the students from what they had been taught. The students' perceptions were gained from analysis of a questionnaire using a Likert scale. Students were provided with writing guidelines and assessed on five aspects such as content, organization, vocabulary, language use and mechanics. The results showed that the students' achievements in the post-test compared to the pre-test revealed significant improvement, meanwhile most of them had difficulties with the basic elements of writing, e.g. lack of structure, poor grammar and limited use of language. However, afterwards, these learners could more confidently express their ideas in their writing and report presentations. Besides, there was a positive improvement in the students' attitudes and perceptions towards the teaching-learning process. INTRODUCTION Constructing report texts for students of Islamic studies nowadays is still limited into scientific and solely incline to general terms. The students raise issue of dichotomy between English as a general subject without integrating their basic major of Islamic values as one of the values in science. In the other hand, on the basis of the national education goals regulated by Law No. 20 Year 2003, people should have education, morals, knowledge and spiritual health and a balanced mastery of science and technology in addition to having faith and righteousness (Depdiknas, 2005). Hanafiah (2007, p. 4) argues that among the three domains of education i.e. cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains, the affective domain should become the shelter for the others. Mengapa ada preposisi jar atau harf jar? Mengapa ada penanda kasus atau I'rab? Mengapa ada penanda gender (jamak muzakkar salim, jamak muannas salim)? Mengapa ada penanda number (mufrad, mutsanna dan jamak)? Mengapa ada penanda sistem ketakrifan (ism ma'rifah dan nakirah)? Mengapa ada sistem derivasi? Buku ini menyajikan jawaban atas semua pertanyaan yang diajukan. Hal ini tentu dengan menggunakan tipologi bahasa pola urutan kata. Qualitative descriptive method with an ethnographic approach was utilized in this paper. The results showed that form of religious expression was began to be shown through nonverbal communication, especially when calamities and administering speech come. The religious expression is certainly different from previous eras. If the Orderer or Sufi in Indonesia spread religion with peaceful, polite expression and based on local culture, fukaha with very tolerant religious expression famous with mazāhib arba'a and discussion tradition, then the religious expression of Indonesian scholars which are famous with the cyber world with social media whatshapp also based the local wisdom that refers to the Qur'an and the Hadith of the Prophet.
