Le prix Bancroft est remis par les autorités de l'université Columbia aux auteurs d'ouvrages originaux traitant de diplomatie ou de l'histoire des Amériques et publiés dans l'année. Un legs de Frederic Bancroft[1] l'a créé en 1948.
Ce prix est considéré aux États-Unis comme la récompense la plus prestigieuse dans le domaine de la science historique. Il est doté de 10 000 $ (4 000 $ jusqu'en 2004).
