I am not disputing the right to strike, which is a right that has been entrenched
in our Constitution for a long time and which does allow some to disagree or to
ask for improvements in working conditions. I am fully aware that this right is
an important benefit for employees. But don’t you find that a certain category
of person (mainly in transport) very often uses this advantage? They go on
strike for everything and for nothing, every time their employer makes a
proposal. I believe that in this way, they do not really penalize their employer
but that it is still the users who are disturbed in their daily life. Personally, I
don’t think it’s normal and I am in favour of the “minimum service” that is
proposed by the government. That way, they can go on strike when I can go to
work!
The statutory working time has increased from 39 hours to 35 hours per week
in 1998. Thanks to this RTT (reduction of working time), employees have more
free time.
The French have had paid leave since 1936. Currently, they are entitled to 5
weeks per year. The most common employment contracts are fixed-term
contracts (fixed-term contracts) and permanent contracts (open-ended
contracts).
The SMIC (Interprofessional Minimum Wage for Growth) has been in existence
since 1950. It was EUR 8.63 per hour in May 2008, which was EUR 6.78 net.
Unemployment affects 10% of the working population. Job seekers go to the
ANPE (National Employment Agency) which helps them to find a job.
