The aim of this work is to develop a modernized and less stressful operation for cutting wood, metals and plastic materials. It is very useful for cutting PVC materials (pipes) and can be used widely in lather and in furniture making industries. This work can also serve as an exercising machine for fitness while cutting; it uses the principle of a slider crank mechanism which converts the rotary motion of the flywheel to the reciprocating motion of the hacksaw during pedaling. The machine was tested and found to be very efficient with an ideal mechanical advantage.

The study identified 12 employability skills and 35 entrepreneurial skill competency areas in automobile technology that can aid graduates of technical education to function and succeed in the automotive industry in this covid-19 pandemic era. The study concludes that when graduates of technical education acquire the relevant employability and entrepreneurship skills, they have higher chances of success in either employment or running their own enterprise in automobile technology industry in this covid-19 pandemic era that will consequently aid greener global economic recovery.

The study investigated innovative skills in foundry technology required for mechanical engineerin... more The study investigated innovative skills in foundry technology required for mechanical engineering graduates entrepreneurship development in tertiary institutions amidst covid-19 pandemic in Rivers state. Four research questions were raised and one null hypothesis formulated guided the study. The study adopted the descriptive design. The population was 329 comprised of 198 technicians and 131lecturers/instructors in six tertiary institutions in Rivers State. A questionnaire structured on 4-point rating scale was used for data collection. The instrument was validated by three experts one from School of secondary Technical Education, Federal College of Education (Technical) Omoku, and two other from faculty of education, Rivers State University, Port Harcourt. The reliability coefficient of .80 was obtained using Crombach Alpha formula. The data collected from the respondents were analyzed using descriptive mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions and z-test used to test the null hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The findings reveled that to a high extent, practical skills in pattern making, core making, moulding process, melting, molten metal handling and treatment skills were required for mechanical engineering graduates entrepreneurship development in tertiary institutions amidst covid-19 pandemic in Rivers state. Hence recommendations were made.

The machine was tested and found to be very efficient with an ideal mechanical advantage of 1.22, velocity ratio of 1.64m/s, a power output of 0.395kw and an efficiency of 74.4%, which makes it very adequate and capable for cutting. Furthermore, the rotational speed of the flywheel was fond to be 10.3 rad/s. It is very useful for cutting PVC materials (pipes) and can be used widely in lather and in furniture making industries. Re examined preventive, corrective/shutdown and predictive maintenance strategies in light of the prevalent maintenance approaches in a contemporary engineering and developing nation, in a bid to proffer effective maintenance strategies that will provide an acceptable level of plant operation. It found maintenance to be a practice that is carried out following detection of an anomaly and aimed at restoring normal operating conditions. This article also revealed that there is no one plant maintenance strategy for all situations and all organizations. Rather, one requires a blend of maintenance strategies that are right for a given operation and for the age of the equipment. The study investigated students' industrial work experience scheme (SIWES) on airconditioning ski... more The study investigated students' industrial work experience scheme (SIWES) on airconditioning skills acquisition for entrepreneurship development of students of technical and vocational education in tertiary institutions in Rivers State. Descriptive survey design was adopted. The population of the study was 820 which comprises of 205 Lecturers/Instructors and 615 students in three tertiary institutions in River state Nigeria. The purposive random sampling technique was used in selecting 75 Lecturers/Instructors and 245 students making a sample size of 320 that was used as respondents for the study. A structured questionnaire was developed and used as instrument for data collection. The instrument was face validated by three experts, one coordinator of SIWES unit and two others from department of industrial technical education FCE (T) Omoku, Rivers State. The reliability of the instrument was achieved using Cronbach Alpha formula which yielded a reliability index of 0.97. Mean and standard deviation was used to answer the research questions and t-test was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The study found that to a high extent students in technical and vocational education acquired relevant airconditioning skills during students' industrial work experience scheme (SIWES) for entrepreneurship development in tertiary institutions in Rivers State. Furthermore, no statistical significant difference exists in the mean responses of instructors and students on relevant airconditioning skills acquired by students. It therefore, recommended among others that SIWES units in our technical and vocational tertiary institutions should vigorously empower their student with skills by providing facilities and equipment they need to infuse in the students the necessary skills for entrepreneurship development.

The study investigated the determinants of adoption and use of e-learning for teaching techno-voc... more The study investigated the determinants of adoption and use of e-learning for teaching techno-vocational skills in tertiary institutions during covid-19 pandemic in Nigeria. It sought to find out the relationships that exist between the factors related to instructors and the adoption and implementation of e-learning. Five research questions were posed and five null hypotheses formulated which guided the study. The correlation survey design was adopted for the study. The study population was 205, which comprised all academic staff in Faculties/Schools of technical and vocational education in three tertiary institutions in Rivers State. The entire population was used without sampling because it is of manageable size. Two sets of instruments were used for data collection, namely: Determinants Factors of Instructors' Scale and Adoption of E-learning Inventory Scale. The instruments were structured on 5point rating scale. The instruments were face validated by three experts in the Faculty of Education in Rivers State University. The instrument was pilot-tested on a representative sample of 30 respondents from faculty of engineering in Rivers State University, which are not part of the study population. The response of thirty (30) representatives were used to estimate the reliability coefficient of the instrument, which was established using the Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient formula and it yielded a reliability index of 0.87 and 0.93 for instruments 1 & 2 respectively. The data collected were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation and t-test to test the stated null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Findings of the study revealed that there is a high positive relationship between behavioral intentions, performance expectancy, effort expectancy and social influences of instructors and adoption of e-learning for teaching in technical and vocational education in tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Also, there was low but positive relationship between facilitating conditions of the institutions and adoption of e-learning. The study concluded among other things that the determinant factors that are related to instructors have positive relationship with adoption of e-learning. Also, that lack of administrative and institutional support often results in instructors falling short of incorporating technology in learning institutions. It therefore, recommended regular training and workshops on e-learning to encourage instructors and increase their interest towards adoption of e-learning. Management of technical and vocational institutions should invest heavily in technology to improve its availability and subsequent use by staff in institutions for teaching and learning. Also, special recognitions for instructors who use e-learning in teaching to promote their social status in the school community; and support for academic staff by provision of necessary Information and Communication Technologies and e-learning facilities.

The study adopted the survey research design. The population was one hundred and twenty-nine (129) technical teachers of the various Government Technical Colleges in Rivers State. Data were collected with the use of a sixteen (16) item questionnaire titled "Skills for Effective Workshop Management in Technical Colleges (SEWMTC) developed by the researchers after review of relevant literature. The mean and standard deviation were used in answering the research questions while the Z-test statistics was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The study findings were that managerial skills such as Planning skills, Organising Skills and Coordinating Skills were required for effective management of technical college workshop in technology education programmes. It was therefore recommended that workshops and seminars should be organised for technical college teachers to enable them possess the required managerial skills to help in the management of technical workshops in technology education programme.

The survey design was adopted to carry out the study in Rivers State in southern part of Nigeria. The population of the study was 33, comprising of 21 Technical college teachers and 12 workshop attendants in six government technical colleges in the State. The entire population was used as respondents, since the researcher considered the population to be of manageable size. A structured questionnaire titled "Practical Skills Relevant in Motor Vehicle Mechanic Works at Technical Colleges" in Nigeria. The instrument consisted of five sections with 91 items statements, structured based on a 5-point rating scale. The instrument was validated by three specialists from the Faculty of Education, Rivers State University, Port Harcourt. And the reliability of the instrument was established using test re-test method. Copies of the instrument were administered to 30 respondents at Government Technical and Science Colleges Ahoada, who were not part of the study sample but has similar characteristics with the study population. The reliability index .92, .87, .88, 92, & .79 were achieved using cronbach Alpha formula. This figure guaranteed the reliability of the instrument. The copies of the questionnaire were administered to the respondents by the researcher with the help of one research assistants from each of the institutions under study. All copies of the instrument which were administered on face to face to the respondents on the first visit were retrieved immediately they were completed. This ensured that there was a 100% returned rate, and all the returned instrument were found useable and considered adequate for the analysis. The data collected from the respondents were analyzed by the aid of using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The research questions were answered with Mean statistic while the hypotheses were tested with t-test statistical technique at the 0.05 level of significance. The decision for the research questions was based on the range for which any item mean response value that falls either below or above the real lower limit 2.50 shall be regarded as not relevant and relevant for below and above respectively. scale of Very High Extent (VHE-4), High Extent (HE-3), Low Extent (LE-2) and Very Low Extent (VLE-1), with a corresponding mean rating. The
instrument was validated by two experts in Department of Industrial Technical Education, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Portharcourt Rivers State. The reliability index was established using Cronbach Alpha coefficient formula to analyze the response of 30 respondents drawn from two Government Craft Centers in Rivers state. This achieved coefficient value of .80 which represents a high reliability index for the study. A total 219 questionnaire was administered to the respondents, and 199 copies retrieved, which guaranteed 95% return rate that was used for the data analysis. The data obtained from the respondents were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions. Using purposive random sampling, a sample size of 231 teachers that were used as respondents to the study. The structured questionnaire titled internet as a resource media for teachers in public secondary schools in Abia State (IRMFTFSS). The instrument consist of four sections on a 4-point rating scale of strongly agreed (SA), Agreed (A), strongly disagreed (SD) and Disagreed (D) weighing 4, 3, 2, 1 respectively. The reliability index of the instrument
was established using PPMC to correlate response of 30 respondents from Imo State. The reliability co-efficient value of 0.87 was obtained which indicated that the instrument was reliable. The instrument was validated by two experts in the field of educational measurement and evaluation. Thereafter, the instrument was revised according to the expect comments with the necessary modification effected in the final copy. The researchers administered 231
copies of the questionnaire, 200 correctly completed copies were retrieved accounting for about 91% return rate. The descriptive statistics mean was employed to analyze the research questions. The mean of 2.50 and above was used as the range for which an item is considered accepted, while the mean score below 2.50 were rejected. The study findings were that both male and female teacher’s level of computer literacy and awareness is low. And there
is no statistical difference in the opinion of the respondents about their gender in internet usage in public secondary schools. Thus it was recommended that government should install computer systems in public secondary schools, create room for training. And that the public secondary school teachers should be provided with individual computer like laptops or desktops with inter connectivity so that they can be used during teaching.

Four research questions were raised which guided the study. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The study population was 153 academic staff, which comprised 12 school administrators (principals and vice principals) and 141 teachers drawn from four government technical colleges in Rivers State. The entire population was of manageable size; hence they were used as respondents without sampling. The instrument for data collection was a self-structured questionnaire which was validated by three experts with reliability coefficient index values of .72, .87, .89 & .91 respectively for the four sections of the instrument which was considered sufficient for the study. Data were analysed using descriptive statistic Mean and Standard deviation to answer the research questions. Items with a mean of 2.50 and above were regarded as agreed while items with a mean ranging from 2.49 and below was regarded as disagree. Findings of the study revealed that perceived, affective, continuance and normative teaching commitments of teachers influence students’ academic performance in technical colleges in Rivers State. In conclusion, the results of the study demonstrated that teachers’ commitment towards their school was only at average. Hence, it was recommended among other things that policy interventions on salary structures should be undertaken to encourage higher levels of commitment among teachers.

To elicit responses for the study, three research questions and hypotheses were formulated. One hundred (100) postgraduate students
were randomly sampled across the departments; Ninety three (93) completed questionnaires which represent 93% recovery rate were
analyzed for the study. Cronbach’s Alpha method was used to determine the reliability of the instrument which yielded a reliability
index of 0.89. Responses were analyzed using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 20, mean and standard deviation
are used in answering the research questions and one-way ANOVA in testing the hypotheses at p<0.05 level of significance. The
result revealed that: ICT facilities are not available for PG students’ use; the three groups of respondents significantly differed in
their opinion on utilization of ICT facilities for different activities; incessant power outage with mean response of 4.00 is the most
challenging to effective utilization of ICT facilities in Nigerian tertiary institutions. Based on the findings the study concluded that
in spite of the potentials inherent in the use of ICT in educational process, its availability to postgraduate students for teaching and
learning is abysmally low, thereby discouraging postgraduate students’ active participation and interest in utilization of the facilities
for educational purposes. The researcher recommended that authorities should brace up to the challenges through acquisition and
installation of ICT infrastructure and active involvement of students in ICT related activities.

The spark ignition (SI) engines, uses petrol or gasoline as fuel, while in compression ignition (CI) engines, diesel is used as fuel. Petrol engines are lightweight and achieve higher speed while diesel engines, on the other hand, are heavy engines and achieve lesser speeds. The most prominent difference between Spark Ignition (SI) and Compression Ignition (CI) engines is the type of fuel used and the process of mixing the fuel for effective combustion. The spark ignition engine uses carburetor as a means of mixing the air and fuel in equal proportion while compression engines uses injector.

The population of the study is 158 which comprised all postgraduate students 2014/2015 academic session, in the faculty of technical and science education, River State University of science and Technology Port Harcourt. 100 respondents constitute the sample size, drawn using random sampling techniques. The researchers constructed part one of the questionnaire and adapts a 33-item list of beliefs and characteristics related to information and communication technology (ICT) developed by Havelka (2003). The researchers administered the instrument on one-on-one to each PG students during a lecture and their responses collected immediately. The study utilized 93 duly completed questionnaires for the data analysis. Items whose mean scores is less than 3.0 were regarded as not utilized and disagreed. While items with mean value 3.0 and above were regarded to be utilized and agree. The hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance, null hypotheses is accepted when the stated level of significance is less that computer level of significance, otherwise it is rejected. The study found that postgraduate students' use and attitudes to ICT facilities is not significantly related to demographic factors like gender, subject and type of degree of study.

Government Technical Colleges in Rivers State. The entire population was used since the population is of manageable size. Welding and fabrication skills for self-employability (WFSSE) instrument, was used for the data collection. The questionnaire is structured based on 4-point rating
scale of Very High Extent (VHE-4), High Extent (HE-3), Low Extent (LE-2) and Very Low Extent (VLE-1), with a corresponding mean rating. The
instrument was validated by two experts in Department of Industrial Technical Education, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Portharcourt Rivers State. The reliability index was established using Cronbach Alpha coefficient formula to analyze the response of 30 respondents drawn from two Government Craft Centers in Rivers state. This achieved coefficient value of .80 which represents a high reliability index for the study. A total 219 questionnaire was administered to the respondents, and 199 copies retrieved, which guaranteed 95% return rate that was used for the data analysis. The data obtained from the respondents were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions. To elicit responses for the study, three research questions and hypotheses were formulated. One hundred (100) postgraduate students
were randomly sampled across the departments; Ninety three (93) completed questionnaires which represent 93% recovery rate were
