Swatching for a Shawl

I've been swatching for a new shawl design. It's based on an Estonian stitch pattern. I just have to figure out how to get the gradual curve I'm looking for and how/where to insert partial repeats at the sides. I am also trying to find a compatible edging.  It needs to be simple because this stitch pattern is more complex.  Here is the initial swatch:
