Agatha Christie fue el fruto del matrimonio entre Frederick Alvah

Miller, un corredor de bolsa estadounidense, y de Clarissa Margaret
Boehmer, hija de un capitn de la Armada britnica. Fue la menor de
tres hermanos. Su padre falleci cuando ella tena once aos y su
madre le dio clases en casa, animndola a escribir desde muy joven. A
la edad de 16 aos, asisti a la escuela de la seora Dryden, en Pars,
para estudiar, canto, danza y piano.
Se cas en primeras nupcias en 1916 con Archibald Christie, del cual se
divorci en 1928, pero despus de este matrimonio se la conoci
mundialmente como la escritora de novelas y cuentos policiales y
detectivescos, con el nombre de Agatha Christie. En sus varios matrimonios, tuvo ocasin de
recorrer lugares del mundo y usarlos como escenarios de sus escritos.
En 1961 fue nombrada miembro de la Real Sociedad de Literatura y hecha doctora honoris causa en
Letras por la Universidad de Exeter.
En 1971 se le concedi el ttulo de Dama del Imperio Britnico (Dame), un ttulo de nobleza que en
aquellos das se conceda con poca frecuencia.
Agatha Christie muri de causas naturales el 12 de enero de 1976, a la edad de 85 aos, en
Winterbrook House, Cholsey, cerca de Wallingford, Oxfordshire. Est enterrada en el cementerio
de la iglesia de St. Mary, en Cholsey.
Obras:
Sus obras se caracterizan por sus desenlaces inesperados. Hay personajes de su creacin que han
sido muy conocidos por sus lectores y seguidores: Hrcules Poirot y Miss Marple.
Entre sus ttulos ms populares se encuentran Asesinato en el Orient-Express (1934), Muerte en el
Nilo (1937) y Diez negritos (1939), aunque su mejor obra sea quiz una de las primeras, El asesinato
de Roger Ackroyd (1926). En su ltima novela, Teln (1974), la muerte del personaje Hrcules
Poirot concluye una carrera ficticia de casi sesenta aos.
Adems de ser escritora detectivesca, Agatha Christie escribi 6 novelas romnticas bajo el
pseudnimo Mary Westmacott, algunas obras teatrales y un libro de poemas.

Agatha Christie
Agatha Christie was the fruit of the marriage between Frederick Alvah Miller, a stockbroker U.S.
and Clarissa Margaret Boehmer, daughter of a British Navy captain. He was the youngest of three
brothers. His father died when she was eleven and his mother taught him at home, encouraging her
to write from very young. At age 16, he attended the school of Mrs. Dryden, in Paris, studying,
singing, dancing and piano.
He married his first wife in 1916 to Archibald Christie, which was divorced in 1928, but after this
marriage was known worldwide as the writer of novels and short stories and detective police with
the name of Agatha Christie. In his several marriages, had occasion to travel around the world and
use them as scenes of his writings.
In 1961 he was appointed a member of the Royal Society of Literature and made honorary
doctorate in Literature from the University of Exeter.
In 1971 he was awarded the title of Dame of the British Empire (Dame), a title of nobility in those
days was granted infrequently.
Agatha Christie died of natural causes on January 12, 1976, at the age of 85, in Winterbrook
House, Cholsey, near Wallingford, Oxfordshire. She is buried in the churchyard of St. Mary, in
Cholsey.
Works:
His works are characterized by unexpected outcomes. There are characters of his creation that
have been well known to his readers and followers: Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple.
Among his most popular titles include Murder on the Orient Express (1934), Death on the Nile
(1937) and Ten Little Indians (1939), but his best work is perhaps one of the first, The Murder of
Roger Ackroyd (1926) . In his latest novel, Curtain (1974), the character's death Hercule Poirot
concludes a career of almost sixty fictitious.
When not writing detective, Agatha Christie wrote six romantic novels under the pseudonym Mary
Westmacott, some plays and a book of poems.
