Create 3 boxes with 4 inch tops and 4 inch bottoms. And yes I had to teach 1st graders how to use the ruler! Then use the ruler to create horizontal and vertical lines inside your boxes. The August art session with my little "firsties" was a HUGE success. We created "Wild About 1st Grade" self-portraits. They turned out so dang cute! It was a lot of fun to combine some guided art along with "do your own thing" directions. The bulletin board is adorable.
