Wikipedia:Editor review/Nihonjoe

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nihonjoe (talk · contribs) I've been here for a while now, focusing mainly on Japan-related articles with occasional forays into other topics and subjects. I started up WikiProject Japan to help organize the efforts of those editors working on Japan-related articles, and it seems to be working fairly well so far. I'm just looking for possible ways to be a better editor, and possibly things to improve on incase I ever get nominated to be an admin. (^_^) --日本穣 Nihonjoe 22:51, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Questions

  1. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
ΦI think WikiProject Japan is one of the best as far as working to help organize similarly-minded editors. There are around 20 participants now, and the project is only a little over a month old now. Related to that, I spun-off Wikipedia:Requested articles/Japan in order to make it easier for project members and other editors to find Japan-related article requests. I've spent a lot of time populating this page (and it's three sub-pages).
ΦI think I created a good article with Shōnen (disambiguation), which has a lot of good information despite it being a disambuiguation page. I learned quite a bit while translating that one from the Japanese Wikipedia page.
ΦWilliam Bliss Baker is small, but contains absolutely all the information I could find about him online. I'm trying to find time to visit a library in order to expand the article further.
ΦHighschool! Kimen-gumi has taken (and is still taking) a lot of time as there is very little English-language information about the show. Therefore, almost everything in the article is translated from Japanese sources (at this point, mostly the equivalent JA-WP article).
ΦNarumi Kakinouchi is another article I consider pretty decent.
ΦTokumei Kakarichō Tadano Hitoshi is another short, but sweet, article. The article isn't terribly large, but it contains a lot of good information. I know a lot of these articles contain large lists of information or timelines, but that's the easiest and quickest way of presenting the information (especially when a lot of what I do is lists of shows someone has worked on, list of casts and staff for a show, and similar things). I think it's more important to have a lot of good solid information there for people than to have nothing at all (which is what was there for all of these before I wrote those articles).
ΦFinally, I think one of the best articles I've written (at least most of it) is MyFamily.com, Inc. (written because I have an interest in genealogy, and I use their services). --日本穣 Nihonjoe 23:38, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
Probably the biggest one was the Use of macrons in titles of Japan-related articles discussion and mediation. I think I did a good job of genuinely trying to work things out with the editors who disagreed with my stance on the subject. I've also tried to go out of my way to compliment thm and encourage them in order to show there are no hard feelings despite the heated discussion that sometimes took place. There have been a few other minor disagreements, but this was definitely the biggest disagreement/conflict in which I have participated. --日本穣 Nihonjoe 23:38, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  3. You come across a new user who has lots of un-rationalised Fair use images on their userpages. What is your method of action? Highway Rainbow Sneakers 22:58, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I would deal with it the way Kaisershatner dealt with me here. S/He was very polite and asked about it rather than coming in with guns blazing. I would give the editor the benefit of the doubt. This seems to elicit a better and quicker response from what I've seen. --日本穣 Nihonjoe 23:38, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  4. What do you think you bring to the Wikipedia community as a unique editor? Highway Rainbow Sneakers 22:58, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have a good command of the English language, and I really enjoy editing and formatting pages. I also have a keen interest in almost all things "Japan" (which led me to create WikiProject Japan), and I have a good sense of humor. When dealing with "faceless" communication, it's important to not read more into a post than the intent. As text doesn't always effectively communicate the intent behind the post, it's important to give everyone the benefit of the doubt rather than assuming they were trying to be rude. I've found this helps to keep discussions more civil than they might otherwise have been. --日本穣 Nihonjoe 23:38, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
