Nominator's rationale: Total category-fork. They don't even link to each other, and both are in mostly the same parent categories. Individual surname articles are randomly categorized into one, the other, or sometimes both. The merge would be consistent with Category:Irish surnames being a cat.-redirect to Category:Surnames of Irish origin. I'm not sure why we're preferring the more longwinded name (that fewer people are likely to pick by guessing at it) but we seem to be; the obvious parent cats. are Category:Surnames of British Isles origin and Category:Surnames of European origin, with similarly named subcats., though there may be a few other stragglers to round up.  — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼  18:09, 10 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: It's unclear what "animal abilities" even means in this context, making this a WP:SUBJECTIVECAT. In its current form, it is confusing. Oppose merger. Most of the characters listed under Category:Fictional characters with animal abilities are not animals, they're people with animalistic abilities, nor are they even all necessarily superheroes either. AHI-3000 (talk) 10:39, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There is no firm definition of what an "animalistic ability" is, making it subjective. While plant abilities are pretty clear-cut, humans are capable of things that may be described as "animalistic" but are not necessarily related to animals. For example, one could say a character who flies using a jetpack is "bird-like" but may be unrelated to birds. This is why I think such a category is totally untenable.

I also support your suggestion regarding animal-themed characters; we can create Category:Animal-themed superheroes and Category:Animal-themed supervillains. Though the scope of these categories would be rather broad, as Batman and Spider-Man are both technically animal-themed heroes, but Batman doesn't actually have literal animal powers. The Military Merit Cross (Mecklenburg-Schwerin) was given out by the Mecklenburg-Schwerin division of the German Empire from 1848 to 1918, although the vast majority of recipients here are royalty or military leaders from other areas of Germany. The biography articles, like Ludwig Freiherr von und zu der Tann-Rathsamhausen and Helmuth von Moltke the Elder, generally mention this award in passing with other honours so it doesn't seem defining.
