[edit]NEW NOMINATIONS
[edit]Category:Professional accountancy bodies
[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: No consensus. Timrollpickering (talk) 11:47, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Professional accountancy bodies to Category:Accountancy professional associations
- Nominator's rationale: Nearly all other subcategories of Category:Professional associations by profession use the complete phrase "professional associations" instead of "professional bodies," and place it as a unit at at the end. Could also be Category:Accountancy-related professional associations.--Mike Selinker (talk) 20:11, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose: I oppose the proposal. Professional accountancy body has more meaning into it than a Accountancy professional association. It is also a wider term. Almost all articles in this category introduce themselves a professional accounting body or as a professional accountancy body. Hence for the sake of clarity and objectivity I propose that status quo be maintained.-- R.Sivanesh ✆ © 05:16, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Category:Nonlinear video games

- The result of the discussion was: Delete. Timrollpickering (talk) 11:46, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
- Category:Nonlinear video games (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Nominator's rationale: "Nonlinear" is a term that could mean several things: It might mean an open level design; it might mean open-endend games, or those with multiple endings. So the first issue is that the category is subjective: for example, Tornado Low Level was recently categorized here, because it has one large map that the player can fly over freely. But it still progresses by level. Is this non-linear?
- Secondly, combining these concepts together makes a huge category - I reckon about half of all games that ever existed. In my opinion this is hopelessly broad. I think we should have a closer examination of what we mean by "nonlinear" and create narrower categories as appropriate. Marasmusine (talk) 08:24, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Note: This debate has been included in the list of video game related deletion discussions. (G·N·B·S·RS·Talk) Marasmusine (talk) 08:27, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Delete Not a useful metric, as it is completely subjective. While some examples are easier to classify, most are just a mess that reviewers will argue on. "Oh, it's so open worlded" vs. "No it's just linear gameplay hidden in big rooms". No VG publisher really classifies this properly as far as I know. And the huge issue is also a factor, since half the video games are not linear in one way or another. — HELLKNOWZ ▎TALK 16:40, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Delete indiscriminate. Shooterwalker (talk) 04:12, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: Changed to redirect. Timrollpickering (talk) 11:48, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
- Propose deletion delete redirect Category:Deaths from throat cancer - Category:Deaths from esophageal cancer
- Nominator's rationale: Wrong redirect. Throat does not correspond esophagus. See also Category talk:Deaths from esophageal cancer. In ideal this page should disambiguate Category:Deaths from oral cancer, Category:Deaths from laryngeal cancer, Category:Deaths from thyroid cancer and others. Speedy? --Figure19 (talk) 07:47, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Comment – I don't think a cfd is needed to change a category redirect to a cat disamb, as it is merely an edit. (I am no expert but it sounds to me as if a disamb would be better. See eg Category:People from Birmingham for the template in use.) Occuli (talk) 09:28, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Oh, I didn't know of a cat disamb existing, thank you. --Figure19 (talk) 01:30, 10 May 2011 (UTC) The redirect was wrong anyway, and I did disambig page, but I'm not sure it's the right way. Although the "throat cancer" is not the right designation and does not fit ICD-10 classification, it's one of the most used colloquial collective terms for these tumors, and more exact diagnosis in most articles is not mentioned (see articles in Category:Deaths from esophageal cancer - now it is full of deaths from throat cancer because of wrong redirect). So, wouldn't it be better to revive Category:Deaths from throat cancer as a full-featured category with subcats of laryngeal, oral, oropharyngeal, etc.? - Delete because these are exactly the sort of articles that can be linked by a template with no need for a category. Harley Hudson (talk) 03:31, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Support Rename To group these articles together by their strongest defining characteristic as part of a nationwide series with a title for the category matching the parent article. The argument that this could be done better by a template (or list) is never a worthy argument for deletion. Alansohn (talk) 17:53, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: Keep. Timrollpickering (talk) 11:44, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
- Category:Suicide bombings in Morocco (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Nominator's rationale: How many suicide bombings have there been in Morocco? Apparently two. This feels a lot like WP:OVERCAT and it almost could be construed as WP:BEANS (among other bad ideas). Axem Titanium (talk) 03:15, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Keep as its two head categories are part of a structure. I find it unlikely that the small number of pages within this category will be a significant part of anyone's motivation to add to these events. - Fayenatic (talk) 07:26, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Keep – categorising a suicide bombing in Morocco as such is hardly OCAT. The alternative would be 'upmerge to Category:Suicide bombing' (which should perhaps be 'bombings'), not delete. Occuli (talk) 19:33, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Keep as part of an overall international structure with more than enough articles to justify subdivision on a national basis. Alansohn (talk) 04:08, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
- Keep part of international structure per Alansohn. As for the purported rationale of WP:BEANS, are you serious? Carlossuarez46 (talk) 18:08, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: Rename all. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 12:59, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Per the recent nomination that created Category:Professional associations based in the United States, this seeks to standardize all related categories to that format.--Mike Selinker (talk) 02:45, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Rename all. Excellent nomination -- thanks for putting this up here. Neutralitytalk 03:03, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

- Rename all. I support the rationale. -- SchreyP (talk) 06:05, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Rename all. Many bodies admit overseas members and some are international in scope, but they are all based somewhere, so this is an improvement in clarity. - Fayenatic (talk) 07:23, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Rename all per nom. CeeGee (talk) 19:00, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Rename all per nom. --Bduke (Discussion) 04:55, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose. I am still uneasy about this recategorisation. My concern remains that ' based in ' is poor wording. Thus the ICE example that I gave was never addressed, namely that a body can have many regional 'bases'. Or has the intention of the category changed so that editors can tag an institute several times for each national 'base'?
- In addition, there are still outstanding sub-categories in the US grouping e.g.: Category:African American professional organizations, Category:American bar associations, Category:American engineering organizations, Category:Hispanic American professional organizations, Category:American legal organizations which should be standardised first before rolling this out globally.
