Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Yann! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 9 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

IP block exempt
[edit]I have granted your account an exemption from IP blocking. This will allow you to edit through full blocks affecting your IP address when you are logged in.
Please read the page Wikipedia:IP block exemption carefully, especially the section on IP block exemption conditions.
Note in particular that you are not permitted to use this newly-granted right to edit Wikipedia via anonymous proxies, or disruptively. If you do, or there is a serious concern of abuse, then the right may be removed by any administrator.
Appropriate usage and compliance with the policy may be checked periodically, due to the nature of block exemption, and block exemption will be removed when no longer needed (for example, when the block it is related to expires).
I hope this will enhance your editing, and allow you to edit successfully and without disruption. --Closedmouth (talk) 10:07, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject India Tag & Assess 2012 Contest
[edit]Hello friends, we are a number of editors from WikiProject India have got together to assess the many thousands of articles under the stewardship of the project, and we'd love to have you, a fellow member, join us. These articles require assessment, that is, the addition of a WikiProject template to the talk page of an article, assessing it for quality and importance and adding a few extra parameters to it.
As of March 11, 2012, 07:00 UTC, WikiProject India has 95,998 articles under its stewardship. Of these 13,980 articles are completely unassessed (both for class and importance) and another 42,415 articles are unassessed for importance only. Accordingly, a Tag & Assess 2012 drive-cum-contest has begun from March 01, 2012 to last till May 31, 2012.
If you are new to assessment, you can learn the minimum about how to evaluate from Part One of the Assessment Guide. Part Two of the Guide will help you learn to employ the full functionality of the talk page template, should you choose to do so.
You can sign up on the Tag & Assess page. There are a number of awards to be given in recognition of your efforts. Come & join us to take part in this exciting new venture. You'll learn more about India in this way.

Disambiguation link notification for June 29
[edit]Hi. When you recently edited Robin Olds, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Blind date (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 16:23, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Yann. I went ahead and took care of it by linking to Wiktionary. Although the dab currently has the definition, that could change at any time, since defining words isn't an official use of a disambig. Thus it's best to use the more stable Wiktionary link. --JaGatalk 17:16, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

Patna
[edit]Hi Yann,
I noticed you made this page move. However, according to the ASI, the Patna circle is in Uttar Pradesh? Are we talking about different Patna's perhaps? effeietsanders 21:25, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- Hmm, I now also see you created a page with Varanasi in it. It is probably referring to the same circle? While I can imagine you think this is a better name, I was keeping the ASI nomenclature here on purpose. We need to stick here to what the source defined, I am afraid... (at least when it comes to defining the top level, we can cut it up further if necessary for practical reasons) effeietsanders 21:28, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- Hmm...
- Well, Patna is not even in Uttar Pradesh, but it is the capital of the state of Bihar, so making it subdivision of Uttar Pradesh is very confusing, to say the least. Yann (talk) 06:54, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Yann,
- I didn't make up those names myself, these are the names used by the authority :) Would perhaps a clarifying note at the top of the page help?
- In any case, if I look at the locations in this circle, most of them are in the very east of Uttar Prasesh, and Patna is probably the biggest metropole in the area - even though it happens to be in Bihar? Please note that the monuments in the city Patna (and hence in Bihar) are actually on the Bihar list. The Bihar list is by the way also called 'Patna circle', so I suspect that for ASI intents and purposes the country used to be divided in these circles rather than states, and this circle happens to cross the state borders. So this naming seems to have grown historically, and is not so much proper. However, I don't see there is much choice but to follow their naming protocols since they are the authoritative source. Adding explanations to it would of course help. effeietsanders 09:36, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
- OK, I moved this back. Yes, a note is needed. Yann (talk) 10:24, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks. Hope the added note is what you were looking for and clarifies. effeietsanders 21:19, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Image galleries are not meant for Wikipedia. Refer WP:IG.
- Well, the guideline says the use of a gallery section may be appropriate in some Wikipedia articles if a collection of images can illustrate aspects of a subject that cannot be easily or adequately described by text or individual images, which fit perfectly with this case. I am open to discussion about how many and which images should be there, etc. Yann (talk) 03:23, 24 August 2012 (UTC)
Such gallery can however be created on Commons and it's link can be presented here. I see that something on similar lines is present at Commons:Crafts Museum, New Delhi. That is a good place for such images. But why is at "Common:XYZ" and not simply "XYZ"? Galleries have direct names. eg: commons:Shahrukh Khan. Is this something different from gallery? §§AnimeshKulkarni (talk) 15:10, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
- It was first indented to inform about the partnership between Wikimedia and the Museum. As there is nothing about this, I moved the page to the main namespace. Another page could be created later about the partnership. Regards, Yann (talk) 03:23, 24 August 2012 (UTC)
POTD scheduling
[edit]Hi Yann,
Thanks for scheduling File:Potter at work, Jaura, India.jpg as POTD for September 27, 2012. However, please note that there is a long queue of pictures waiting their turn to appear (the wait time is about 18 months), and this picture just got promoted, so it's far too early for it show up. I make exceptions for anniversaries or other special days, or if this is your very first Featured Picture, but none of those applies, so I'm going to put it back in the queue. Thanks. —howcheng {chat} 16:06, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
- OK, I just choose the next empty slot. I am a bit surprised that slots are not filled up in advance, like it is done on Commons. Yann (talk) 16:11, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Copyright status of the Internationale
[edit]Hi Yann; I'm currently a bit confused... English Wikipedia still says that the Internationale is copyrighted in France until 2017; however, with this edit in 2009 you said "PD in France now, war extensions no longer apply". Can you give some background on this? Would be very welcome... see also commons:Commons:Village_pump/Copyright#Template:PD-Internationale. I stumbled upon this because of the expiration of the Colombian copyright term. Gestumblindi (talk) 00:01, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
- I believe that the Internationale is in the public domain in France. This is a complicated case, as you can see in the discussion. When in doubt, I usually rely on the opinion of Carl Lindberg. Regards, Yann (talk) 08:44, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Rosamund Lupton
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Rosamund Lupton requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. A.Minkowiski _Lets t@lk 18:38, 14 June 2014 (UTC)

Odette Dulac wrong picture
[edit]Hello Yann,
I'm a contributor in French's Wikipedia, Odette Dulac's biographer and her descendent . I wanted to inform you that the photo that you put on the Odette Dulac's English page, represent in fact Jeanne Dulac (a homonym and also French artist). I thus took the initiative to remove that picture and to put back the good one both in the French and English version. I chose the caricature of Capello, because it symbolic of the period of the Belle Époque in Paris. On the other hand Odette Dulac explains in her memoirs how the caricature was made (according to a photo of Reutlinger, made during a session, the photo of which more low in the page made). You can make a visit on the site of the French national library (bnf.fr) and you will see other Odette Dulac's photos by Reutlinger. I would also like to translate my page in French into English because the English page contains errors and it is extremely simplified. Not being bilingual, could help me to advise in the writing in the Shakespeare's style? Thank a lot, Domlat — Preceding undated comment added 12:28, 3 September 2014 (UTC) ~~Domlat~~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Domlat (talk • contribs) 12:22, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Domlat: Bonjour,
Some photos that might need emailed permission
[edit]Hi, the following images appear in the slideshow starting here. The comments on the pages suggest that the photos were published around about the same time as they were uploaded to Commons by Pranav21391:
- File:Jan_Lokpal_demand_1.jpg
- File:Jan lokpal 4.jpg
- File:Jan lokpal 3.jpg
- File:Jan Lokpal protests 2.jpg
At the news website, they are all attributed to "AP Photo/Rafiq Maqbool". There are other photos in the slideshow that are attributed to other photographers and which have not been uploaded by Pranav21391. I've no idea if that user might be Maqbool, nor am I 100% sure how agency copyright works.
Photos uploaded shortly before this set contained EXIF data, eg: File:ISWK-Oman.jpg, but were taken several years before uploading. They are not great quality, which would be surprising for a professional photographer. As would the absence of EXIF data for the set listed above. Photos uploaded subsequent to the set all come from Flickr.
Any idea of the best way to deal with this? Do they need email verification? Are they automatically unacceptable because of the AP tag? Are they obviously copyvios? Thanks. - Sitush (talk) 17:56, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
- ARgh! I thought I was on Commons. I'll copy this over there. - Sitush (talk) 17:58, 14 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi Yann- I don't believe these images belong in the gallery for the counterfeit article. It is my understanding that counterfeiting requires that the fake object be a direct copy/forgery of an existing real piece of currency. Neither of these images in any way resembles real US currency, making these more like fantasy notes (and seemingly part of some greater conspiracy theory).--Godot13 (talk) 22:24, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
