Donmeh West and other topics

[edit]

Thanks so much for your very nice post. It seems to me that we have a lot in common, in more than one area. I am currently a student as well, in the United States. What is your field? I have 2 fields, Biology and Computer Science. Do you have any specific questions about evolution or any other aspect of your science club, by the way? If you can let me know what they are, then I'd be able to understand better how to help you. For example, do you want a list of evolution and other science topics to discuss at club meetings, or a few leads to possible articles for your science journal?

FYI, I have professional biology publications. I originally became involved with the Wikimedia Foundation because I was trying to get OR (Original Research) about evolution more active on Wikiversity, and help develop Wikiversity as a forum for OR. I'll have more time to do this after December 23, when I'm on break from University. I can keep you posted if you would like.

Regarding the Donmeh: That is so cool, that Freely is a professor at your University! He writes very well and seems to have an eye for interesting topics. Are you a Donmeh yourself? Does your Username have any connection with Shabbatai, because it looks so similar to me? Also, do you know whether Shabbatai was involved in any social justice activities, because this is a topic I'm very curious about? Thanks, AFriedman (talk) 19:52, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi thanks for the reply. I am studying Taching Chemistry. "Biology and Computer Science" you must be a very smart student. It is great honor to me talking someone like you. I like reading spesific topics about evolution such as connection between evolution and anaerobic recpiration(I also want to add this to article Anaerobic respiration article on Wikipedia. I really want to read your articles and disscus them with my friends in science club. Maybe under your permission we can publish one of them.
As I said before my department is Teaching Chemistry. Wikiversity can be a very good opportunity to teach Chemistry on internet. I would like to be part of this project after finshing my exams.
My username has connection both with my surname and him. I dont know wheter I am Donmeh or not. as you know Donmeh people assimilated in a Turkish society to some extend. However I really admire people who wnat to make some cahnges on religion and Amirah tried to do it for Judaism and whole world, I appreciate that as a secular person. He also gave important rights to women that was so important. When I read the book "The Messiah of Ismir Sabbatai Sevi" I realized he was a great reformer like Ataturk(founder of modern Turkey). I will tell to Yalhak your vital helps to keep donmeh west article.:)If you have fb account I can privede connection. He was very happy for seeing article on Wikipedia. Immediately sahared it with his friends. :)--Abbatai (talk) 11:01, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I'm about to email you some articles I think you might be interested in, in terms of what you said you wanted to see your science club discuss. The evolution of anaerobic respiration is not my main area of specialty, but I hope what I'm sending is helpful to you. I'm also sending you an article about a very different topic that I wrote. My other scientific publications have not come out yet.

Also, it's nice that you like people who try to reform religions. Judaism, my own religion, is actually changing a lot in the U.S.A. where I live. It's very exciting to see some of the changes, and to think about what else could be re-envisioned. Shabbetai, by the way, is one of my inspirations. I don't know how many practicing Jewish people you know, or what Jewish life is like in Turkey. In terms of modern Judaism, you may be interested in the articles about Reform Judaism and Conservative Judaism, which are very popular in the U.S.A. One of the main reasons they developed was that many people wanted branches of Judaism that gave more rights to women. There are also groups within Orthodox Judaism that are moving in the same direction, such as Modern Orthodox Judaism and the Jewish Orthodox Feminist Alliance. Karaite Judaism, which dates at least to medieval times, is a very egalitarian branch in general and has had not too many problems with women's participation for quite a long time, although there aren't too many Karaites in the U.S.A. There's a nice section on French Wikipedia about women in Karaite Judaism, which I hope will eventually be moved to English Wikipedia. What did Shabbetai specifically do for women's rights?

Also, I'm already in contact with Yalhak, who seems like he does a lot of very interesting things on behalf of Shabbetai's historical legacy. But I'd still appreciate your speaking with him about me. --AFriedman (talk) 02:16, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I couldnt reply because of my exams. Thanks for article. It seems you are almost an expert about this issue. For next term meetings I am planning to add you article to issues to be discussed.
There are approximately 25,000 Jews in Turkey mostly live in Istanbul in which there are hundred of synagoges. I have a Jewish friend but he doesnt prtactise very much at all but I do know many jews in Turkey are very religious. In the city where my family live there is a jewish quarter. See Kırklareli Jewish Quarter. Reform Judaism seems really good. Do you know I strongly support Liberal movements within Islam. I think religions are essential for societies if they are not politicized. Using religion as a political tool can devestage our civilization. Therefore we should think religion and other things that influence our life differently. During Amirah's era he usually put women and men in the same label. Women enjoyed being equal to men in the many fields of life, and in the life of his fallowers, women occupy much higher position compered to other Jews or Turks. The first Turkish feminist Halide Edip Adıvar was a donmeh.--Abbatai (talk) 02:14, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, and interesting. Best of luck on your exams! When do they end? Also, since we're possibly going off topic for a User talk page I'm answering you by email. --AFriedman (talk) 23:01, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thinking of you

[edit]

Best of luck on exams! I was thinking of you, and felt that your Talk page deserved something nice. Great job starting the Donmeh West and Kirklareli Jewish Quarter articles, and I'm sure other nice articles as well! --AFriedman (talk) 16:16, 28 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article Donmeh West has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable organization. Out of the 294 unique GHits, I can't find significant coverage in multiple independent, reliable sources, only Kabbalh websites, Yahoo groups, and the like.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.  Glenfarclas  (talk) 07:36, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just to let you know, someone else has removed the proposed deletion tag. --AFriedman (talk) 18:54, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Abbatai, thanks for reverting edits to the Halide Edip article. But I don't want to be involved in any edit wars. Please add your thoughts regarding the city's name to the talk page. Need help

[edit]

I am new in editing articles on Wikipedia so I dont know how to approach this but I noticed your comments in the article Igdir so here I go: the article of the of Malazgirt is specifically only regarding the Armenian genocide & has absolutely no information regarding the town itself. It is in my opinion heavily POV & I dont know if I can or should just go ahead and modify it after having left a comment on the page nor do I know how to approach a higher wiki staff member regarding this. Any help/guidance you can offer me will be appreciated in advance. AussieSkeptic82 (talk) 16:12, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for commenting on my page. I have also found discrepancies on the article regarding the Hagia Sophia. The article states that the Hagia Sophia was subject to 3 days of pillaging yet it also states that it was also converted instantly to a mosque. This is highly peculiar given the Ottoman respect to other religions and other sources of information (internationally circulated) that I have read regarding the subject is that Constantinople did not suffer the pillaging the article seems to suggest. Indeed the article contradicts itself given what is known about the respect Muslims have towards their centers of worship and the described actions the article states. Edit wars

[edit]

Abbatai, you are more than well-acquainted with the ArbCom 2 sanctions relating to Armenia and Azerbaijan. Please discuss all your edits on the talk page and resolve differences there instead of resorting to edit warring. The move on your part on the Turkish invasion of Armenia article was done without even looking at the talk page, where I outlined the reasons why it was moved in the first place. Please discuss and reach a consensus in your edits from now on. Thank you.--Marshal Bagramyan (talk) 21:13, 12 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, Solar ball

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, Solar ball. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Solarball. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will to continue helping improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Solarball - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Nat Gertler (talk) 20:34, 4 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your Neturality

[edit]

Hi, I checked your contributions to Wikipedia. Although your works are quite impressive, I noticed you are neither an anti-Turkish individual or a self orientalist tries to get admire from westerners by criticizing Turkey every means possible. What is the logic behind creating this[1] there is already an article covering the issue thanks.Abbatai 12:19, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to write the article Greek landing at Smyrna with military and oriented contents. Many users who are interested in the Greco-Turkish War are focusing on its atrocities and massacres too much. There are uncomfortable situations in some articles related with Greco-Turkish issues (cf. Talk:Greco-Turkish War (1919–1922)#Proposal). I'm going to start the article with the topic of the dismissal of Nureddin Pasha. Do you know following eppisode ? Thank you. Takabeg (talk) 19:36, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Do you have any opinions / ideas on this problem ? Takabeg (talk) 21:54, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for kind reply. First of all my concern about the article is that once some Greek nationalists tried to move the Occupation of Smyrna to the Greek landing in Smyrna and write a Greek version of story as they taught in Greece. So I thought your article can assist them. Secondly in the article there was one sentence only saying it is also called Greek invasion of Smyrna. As we see there is no difference between two. Now after reading your comment on talk page I see your position but still think it is better add the information to the main article to avoid further conflicts.
Unfortunately, in both Turkey and Greece the same history is told in different ways. But I see the western approach to Turkey uneven and found Wikipedia quite anti-Turkish, the Turkish counterarguments either neglected or looked down.
Well, the problem about Turkish people and Turkishness is that although being a Turk described as being a citizen of Turkey the historic background of the word disregarded, from elementary school to university we are taught Turks come from Central Asia and we expect Kurds and other non-Turks to say "How happy to say I am a Turk". That is very problematic. Therefore like everyone I am also confused. Since, I know some Kurds who never accept Turkish identity. Thanks Abbatai 11:35, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ek olarak: If you read this article, I think you would be sure that the "Landing of Greek Troops in Izmir" is only a part of the "Occupation of Izmir and Adjoining Teritories". Takabeg (talk) 11:51, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Sırrı Süreyya Önder has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. noq (talk) 14:48, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion about Occupy Starbucks

[edit]

Hello, Abbatai, and thanks for contributing to Wikipedia!

I wanted to let you know that some editors are discussing at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Occupy Starbucks whether the article Occupy Starbucks should be in Wikipedia. I encourage you to comment there if you think the article should be kept in the encyclopedia.

The deletion discussion doesn't mean you did something wrong. In fact, other editors may have useful suggestions on how you can continue editing and improving Occupy Starbucks, which I encourage you to do. If you have any questions, feel free to ask at the Help Desk.

Thanks again for your contributions! That's me! Have doubt? Track me! 12:46, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Occupy Starbucks for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Occupy Starbucks is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Occupy Starbucks (2nd nomination) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Purplebackpack89≈≈≈≈ 20:53, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

AfD and PROD notifications

Hi Abbatai,

Back in December, you got either an AfD or PROD notification, which was part of the template testing project's experiments. If you could go here and leave us some feedback about what you think about the new versions of the templates we tested (there are links to the templates), that would be very useful. (You can also email me at mpinchuk@wikimedia.org if you want.) Thanks! Maryana (WMF) (talk) 20:01, 17 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article Ufuk Çakmak has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence that the subject meets the notability criteria for a biography, either as an author or as an academic.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Editwarring at Occupation of Smyrna

[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware, Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made; that is to say, editors are not automatically "entitled" to three reverts.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. --Kansas Bear (talk) 20:28, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. I have started a topic of discussion at the talk page. I hope you can join it, instead of edit-warring. Étienne Dolet (talk) 19:32, 7 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Notice that you are now subject to an arbitration enforcement sanction

[edit]

The following sanction now applies to you:

You are hereby topic banned from all pages related to Armenia, Azerbaijan, or related ethnic conflicts, broadly interpreted, for 30 days.

You have been sanctioned for the reasons provided in response to this arbitration enforcement request.

This sanction is imposed in my capacity as an uninvolved administrator under the authority of the Arbitration Committee's decision at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Armenia-Azerbaijan 2#Final decision and, if applicable, the procedure described at Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/Discretionary sanctions. This sanction has been recorded in the log of sanctions. If the sanction includes a ban, please read the banning policy to ensure you understand what this means. If you do not comply with this sanction, you may be blocked for an extended period, by way of enforcement of this sanction—and you may also be made subject to further sanctions.

You may appeal this sanction using the process described here. I recommend that you use the arbitration enforcement appeals template if you wish to submit an appeal to the arbitration enforcement noticeboard. You may also appeal directly to me (on my talk page), before or instead of appealing to the noticeboard. Even if you appeal this sanction, you remain bound by it until you are notified by an uninvolved administrator that the appeal has been successful. @Coffee: Abbatai has violated his topic ban in a pretty disruptive way: [6] Étienne Dolet (talk) 08:52, 27 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@User:EtienneDolet stop wikidrama. Just read what I wrote. Urartu history of Turkey has nothing to do with this ban. Armenians, just like Assyrians, are an ancient people. You cannot remove the word Armenia and replace it with Urartu so as to hide that fact, especially when you're banned from doing so. Étienne Dolet (talk) 09:03, 27 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Ergenekon (allegation), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Justice and Development Party. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Result of the AE complaint about your edits

[edit]

Per this AE decision, both you and User:EtienneDolet are admonished and warned against battleground behaviour and failure to edit neutrally. Future examples of these behaviours are likely to result in a topic ban. This warning to both of you is being entered in WP:DSLOG and can be referred to if further problems occur. Thank you, EdJohnston (talk) 15:26, 19 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • And can I just add, Abbatai, chiming in with EdJohnston, that it would be a very good idea for you to not seek confrontations with ED by, for instance, going to talk pages or articles where they are editing and arguing with them. Whether you're right or wrong, it doesn't make you look good. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 02:39, 28 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks will consider this.Abbatai 06:50, 28 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
EdJohnston,Drmies And I hope the same goes for ED as well. See this seems he is the one following me actually with his mate Tiptoe. Thanks --Abbatai 00:08, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • I wish EtienneDolet would refrain from snarky stuff such as "care to explain", but I don't yet see how that comment is a violation. Tiptoe's comment is as neutral as it should be--no battleground behavior. I'm not inclined to see this (yet) as hounding, since both those editors are, if I remember correctly, interested in Armenian matters. EdJohnston, do you see something that I don't see? Drmies (talk) 18:57, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Drmies: I crossed out the "care to explain" bit. Didn't realize I was being snarky. Also, I've had this page watchlisted for a long time, with my first edit being in 2014, long before Abbatai's first ever edit on that article. I'd appreciate it if Abbatai's mainspace edits can be examined as well. Abbatai, who apparently is fluent in Turkish, left out an important qualifier from the source which states that the killings of women and children were an accident. However, in his edit, he made it seem it was intentional. The misrepresentation of sources is a big no-no, especially when it comes to controversial claims (i.e. the killing of women and children). Étienne Dolet (talk) 19:17, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Drmies (talk) 19:24, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Drmies So I should not edit the pages ED edits but it is ok if vice versa happens. Honestly, I couldn't get how it works. Thanks. ED there is not any misrepresentation of the source. It is you misunderstood the sentence. The long noun clause "Ermeni çetecilerinin gece yarısı kör ateşi" means "blind fire of Armenian guerrillas at night". It is not "gece yarısı körü ateşi". Thanks. And please stop accusing me with misrepresentation before seeing my explanation. Thanks. Abbatai 01:11, 18 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • You two are not under an interaction ban. There is no rule against y'all editing the same article. The AE determination was about battleground behavior, and hounding can be part of that--but here, and I think ED explained this well enough also, there was no hounding (intentionally following someone someplace to harass them). The only behavior that seemed out of line to me was that one comment which they struck, so as far as I'm concerned, you two are good to go as long as you keep it civil. Drmies (talk) 02:44, 18 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
OK, got it. Thanks. Abbatai 08:08, 18 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

WP:NOTAFORUM

[edit]

To clarify: my remark actually is not just some remark it's a Shakespeare quote, it has to do with the topic at hand. As in, whether he was a neocon or an imperialist, it's still the same but though the name has changed. Please don't remove it. Étienne Dolet (talk) 18:00, 24 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It is nice of you use such a quote in that hot debate. However, all this neocon discussion does not belong to Khanasor talk page. That's why I removed your edit. Thanks. Abbatai 18:21, 24 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What do you mean? Of course it does, especially when it pertains to the reliability of a source that is being considered of being used in an article. Étienne Dolet (talk) 18:38, 24 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
How do we know he was neocon? Or is there any Wikipedia rule that we should not use neocon writes' books as a source. Additionally, here is the testimony of Cyrus Hamlin (a christian missionary in Istanbul) saying that Armenian revolutionaries were provoking such atrocities. So, seems he might be right about his claims. Thanks. Abbatai 18:51, 24 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
