@Gerda Arendt: Thank You! I just completed article # 1,746. WQUlrich (talk) 06:38, 4 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I refer to an older article you started on the Austrian painter John Quincy Adams. It was a delight to see that someone shares my interest and passion with the artist. You can see the results of my own research here: https://jqadams.art

Again many thanks for being such a pioneer on this artist. Best wishes and greetings, Arnulf Gruebler email: [email protected]

Without an account, I don't think you'll be notified that I've responded, but Thank You!! It's much appreciated. I would contact you by email, but that might allow other editors to discover my Top Secret True Identity. I've been doing articles on painters since 2014, and I'm still amazed at how many good ones have been ignored. WQUlrich (talk) 13:12, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Best of luck to your enterprise...a catalogue raisonné is quite a project. I've added your link to the article. WQUlrich (talk) 14:09, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

File:Negri-vanitas-prado.jpg (in "Pietro Negri" you created) and File:Antonio Zanchi Magdalena penitente Lienzo. 110 x 90 cm. Museo del Prado.jpg (in "Category:Pietro Negri")is same picture. Is this work painted by Pietro Negri ? --Fuusenn (talk) 20:40, 30 August 2021 (UTC)(I'm Japanese Wikipedian.)[reply]

@Fuusenn: I checked and, according to the Museo del Prado website, the painting was originally attributed to Zanchi, but was later identified as being a work of Negri's. Therefore, the Zanchi should probably be deleted. Here's the link: [2] WQUlrich (talk) 21:02, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Gerda Arendt: Thank you once again! I'm just about to post article #2,171. WQUlrich (talk) 07:13, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Looking forward to Questenberg on the Main page, a bit sad that it's planned without image, perhaps that can change. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:26, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have a fixed program, or are you open to suggestions as to what to write? I usually asked LouisAlain for translations from German, but he was blocked. Today, I switched my plans to translate de:Eberhard Panitz because he died. Or would you? Because two others came first who need more refs, and I don't know where to begin. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:29, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Gerda Arendt: My selections are very random. At the moment, I'm going through names in red at the Große Berliner Kunstausstellung article. Overall, I'm reviewing my old articles for red links and anything they may lead to. As for Panitz, I would love to, but I generally limit myself to doing articles on artists whose works are in the public domain. Happy editing! WQUlrich (talk) 07:36, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Understand, will ask again once I see one of those. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:47, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

My experience with other Wikipedias.

[edit]

Hi WQUlrich, We started a kind of conversation about using Wikipedia articles from other languages in order to expand slim articles in English Wikipedia. I worked on two articles that brought me into contact with articles in other languages; Onze Kunst van Heden and List of women artists exhibited at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. I would often run into an existing article in French, German, or Dutch. The articles would be lengthy and interesting, but in many cases unreferenced , poorly referenced, or no inline citations. I was unable to create a robust article from the information found on the non-English pages. By the time I started working on Onze Kunst van Heden I would barely look at the Dutch or German article.

After our contact yesterday I was poking around at some of the articles I created along with the foreign language version. Specifically I looked at Leonard Pinkhof. In this case I believe I wrote the first article that was then translated into German a few months later. The author/editor of the German version took an almost word for word translation, stripped out the inline citations and then grouped all the sources at the bottom as "Literatur". One random sentence "Motifs from the life of Dutch Jews often appeared in his works. He also designed book covers" was added.I think we can assume that not using inline citations is the format of German Wikipedia. The French articles IMO are even more free form, adding info about family etc, with no sourcing.

TLDR - English Wikipedia strives to let the reader find out exactly where the information comes from and is superior to other languages. And one true piece of information is better than three unsourced pieces of information. Best, WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 21:30, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In a recent edit to Bonifazio Asioli, you inserted the wikitext
. This is invalid HTML; line breaks must be written as
or
. See MDN's article on the subject for more information. jlwoodwa (talk) 05:50, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm, it's always worked that way, but alright, I'll remember.WQUlrich (talk) 06:07, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! My name is Mark. Today, I've written an article in my native Ukrainian Wiki about John, Prince of Asturias. In Wikimedia Commons, I've found few files. This is one of them.

Well, I discovered that painter of this was born in 1482, and according to the Commons that work was made in 1486, so when de la Cruz was four years old.

So, I write this to you because you are the main author of an article about de la Cruz in this Wiki. And I wonder why is it so. I would be so greatful for an answer.

P. S. Please use {{ping}} writing an answer for me. And I'm sorry for my English if there are some mistakes or unusual conditions, it needs to be better Markverona (talk) 14:25, 25 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Markverona: Actually, he wasn't born in 1482. His year of birth is unknown. "fl." is short for "flourished". That means those were the years when he did most of his work. WQUlrich (talk) 17:33, 25 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Alright. Thank you for answer. Thus I have one more word I know in English Markverona (talk) 18:20, 25 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

story · music · places
We can have a 1519 party then ;) - About attribution: it's needed if a complete article is a translation, not - to my understanding - for translated bits. I have turned to mark a new article that is a translation as such in the edit summary of the first edit (example) and with the template on the talk page. I believe that the latter is more important, because that's where everybody can see it, while checking out something in the edit history is difficult to access. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:25, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the advice! I must admit, I've never seen that template anywhere before. Oh well..after ten years, I finally got busted by a Rule Cop. :) WQUlrich (talk) 21:21, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have used the template for many years (just copying what I saw on talk pages) but heard about the initial attribution more recently. I miss a friend who'd say "teh rulez" ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:29, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It turns out that person has only been an editor since 2023...already a know-it-all!..and they don't even have a user page! Now that I've done more "research" it looks like all I have to do (if anything) is make a dummy edit that mentions it. WQUlrich (talk) 00:08, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Which person? - Dear friends have stumbled over copyright, one retired in 2010, remembered, one was blocked for a year, and several people cleaned up, - don't follow, please. As said above, I recommend to put it openly on talk pages, - a dummy edit in the article history seems a dummy edit to me ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:16, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry!! I didn't make myself clear. I was talking about "Fram", my critic. Anyway, I've been looking over my articles. There was a break from 4/24 to 8/24, when I wasn't feeling well. The ones before are attributed in the summary already, but the ones after aren't. I don't know why I stopped doing it. Only 17 articles are involved. This explains why nobody mentioned it before. WQUlrich (talk) 06:24, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I thought everybody knew Fram as an institution ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:36, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like I misunderstood a post on his talk page. But he really doesn't have a user page! Oh, and as for my attributions, he says "no problem", so now I can sleep peacefully and be happy. ;) WQUlrich (talk) 23:31, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Today brought a timely promotion of Helmut Bauer to the Main page on the day when pieces from Mozart's Requiem were performed for him. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:43, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent article. I'm not familiar with him, but it looks like he had a long, productive life. WQUlrich (talk) 23:49, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Never heard of him until he appeared - as a red link - in the Deaths in 2024, and grabbed the topic as knowing German so able to help, and then discovered that his musical interests and achievements matched my general interests perfectly. I watched the Requiem live, - impressive Mozart Requiem (list of the music on my talk, - two hymns are just redirects ...), and a good sermon, with humanity and even humour. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:09, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I do that a lot, beautifying those of people who died. More who died, more to come, and they made the world richer. Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you translated text from Jerónimo Antonio Gil to another page. While you are welcome to translate Wikipedia content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing requires that you provide attribution to the contributor(s) of the original article. When translating from a foreign-language Wikipedia article, this is supplied at a minimum in an edit summary on the page where you add translated content, identifying it as a translation and linking it to the source page. Sample wording for this is given here. If you forgot, or were not aware of this requirement, attribution must be given retroactively, for example:

NOTE: Content in the edit of 01:25, January 25, 2023 was translated from the existing French Wikipedia article at [[:fr:Exact name of French article]]; see its history for attribution.

Retroactive attribution may be added using a dummy edit; see Repairing insufficient attribution. It is good practice, especially if translation is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{translated page}} template on the talk page of the destination article. If you have added translated content previously which was not attributed at the time it was added, you must add attribution retrospectively, even if it was a long time ago. You can read more about author attribution and the reasons for it at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. I note that many of your articles, e.g. also Cosme de Acuña, seem to be closely based on examples from other language Wikipedia versions, but without any acknowledgment of this. Fram (talk) 10:12, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

OMG. I've created over 2500 articles in the last 10 years, and NOBODY has cared enough to mention this before! Most of them have at least a little bit of translated text. I've been checking my articles. I took a break from creating articles between 4/24 and 8/24. Articles before are attributed in the edit summary. Articles after are not. I don't know why I stopped doing it. WQUlrich (talk) 06:14, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
