Welcome!

Hello, Snaevar, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as 200.000 naglbítar, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines, and may soon be deleted.

There's a page about creating articles you may want to read called Your first article. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on this page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Questions or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Mo ainm~Talk 19:23, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on 200.000 naglbítar requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Mo ainm~Talk 19:23, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I created that article becouse there was, and probably still is a request to have an english article on the matter. That request can be seen on the Icelandic chat page on the same matter. Also, becouse of that, I don´t care if that article exsists, or not.--Snaevar (talk) 23:46, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi, I haven't had a chance yet to do a thorough comparison between my original template code and the Lua replacement you designed, but I've found only a few issues so far. I don't know Lua, but I was able to fix one of them (the title input into the case1 parameter was not supposed to wikilink),[1] but I don't know how to correct the page field, which should display ___ when no value is entered. Instead, it's not displaying anything. A bigger issue is that the opinion column sorting no longer works (this relied upon the "justice[#]-sortcode" field inputs). I've reverted to the original template code for now until the Lua code is functional in this regard. Thanks, postdlf (talk) 19:47, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed the two remaining issues. Tested the sorting issue on the first two entries of "2007 term opinions of the Supreme Court of the United States" and it worked fine there.--Snaevar (talk) 22:39, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That was quick, looks good! Thank you! I have to say I'm impressed with your work on this, given that the template code was something that I had developed organically over the past decade as I added more and more functions and so was not very streamlined, but you analyzed it well and recreated its functionality with minimal issues. I'll let you know if I notice anything else. postdlf (talk) 23:05, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Could you adjust the datestamp on this report to be more parseable, for example by mw:Help:Extension:ParserFunctions##time? 17:20, August 19, 2015‎ (UTC) is confusing, I think because the commas serve multiple purposes. The closest clean analog to what you have is 17:20, 19 August 2015‎ (UTC), which is what most other Wikipedia:Database reports use. I don't know how this WP page is generated, so I don't know what program/script change would accomplish it. DMacks (talk) 07:51, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Done.--Snaevar (talk) 20:50, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! DMacks (talk) 21:17, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Parser was still upset...it turned out there was some nonstandard whitespace or other nonprinting character between "2017" and "(UTC)". I changed it and now Wikipedia:Database reports is happy. DMacks (talk) 21:29, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I happened to notice this edit and decided to stop by. I'm re-using this section, hope you don't mind.

Regarding the timestamp, it's usually easiest to use ~~~~~ (five tildes), which MediaWiki will automatically turn into a decent timestamp: 01:25, 24 January 2017 (UTC).

Regarding the report's update frequency, are you volunteering to keep this report updated monthly? If so, great! :-) If not, I may be able to (re-)set it to update more frequently. It's kind of strange that this report is broken, in some ways. Maybe someone figured Special:LongPages was good enough? I don't remember the report being particularly complex, so it's a bit strange that other reports are continuing to update but this one is not. It makes me think it might've been intentional, but I dunno. --MZMcBride (talk) 01:25, 24 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Err, actually, I happened to notice this edit. I looked at the report's page history after. --MZMcBride (talk) 02:02, 24 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Help clean up an auto-translation at is:Kannabis á Íslandi?

ANI Experiences survey

[edit]

Beginning on November 28, 2017, the Wikimedia Foundation Community health initiative (Safety and Support and Anti-Harassment Tools team) will be conducting a survey to en.wikipedia contributors on their experience and satisfaction level with the Administrator’s Noticeboard/Incidents. This survey will be integral to gathering information about how this noticeboard works - which problems it deals with well, and which problems it struggles with.

The survey should take 10-20 minutes to answer, and your individual responses will not be made public. The survey is delivered through Google Forms. The privacy policy for the survey describes how and when Wikimedia collects, uses, and shares the information we receive from survey participants and can be found here:

If you would like to take this survey, please sign up on this page, and a link for the survey will be mailed to you via Special:Emailuser.

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

[edit]

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to [email protected], so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at [email protected].

Thank you!

Information icon Hello. I noticed that you attempted to file a deletion discussion on the article TimedText:Jimi Hendrix performing "The Star Spangled Banner" at Woodstock, 18 August 1969.ogg.en.srt but did not complete the process. Please note that, when listing an article for deletion, a discussion page needs to be made for other users to discuss whether to keep or delete the article. This is typically done by following the steps listed here. Thank you. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 05:30, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

User:LaundryPizza03: That seemingly incomplete deletion was complete until this diff was made and here is my response to it. Note that the TimedText namespace (where my deletion nomination was made) does not display any templates properly. In addition to that reasoning I do not have the time to take part in this beurocratic process, as in this particular namespace it is misleading at best. As such, don´t expect any further actions on my part regarding this.--Snaevar (talk) 17:37, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
See also the discussion that followed on Wikipedia_talk:Miscellany_for_deletion#TimedText and Wikipedia:Village_pump_(proposals)#Deleting_TimedText_Files.--Snaevar (talk) 18:00, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Snaevar! In Persian Wikipedia, I'm having problems regarding the correct, standard Icelandic pronunciation of his name. Based on the IPA provided in the page (/ˈhafθour ˈjuːlijʏs ˈpjœrtn̥ssɔn/) and Help:IPA/Icelandic as well as Icelandic/Alphabet and Pronunciation, all "s" letters in his name should be pronounced like the English "s" (/s/), as in "sing". However, it is argued that the audio file in the page (provided below) somehow hears like English "sh" (/ʃ/), as in "shop". So, what is the correct standard pronunciation? Is IPA really incorrect? Thanks. MS 会話 06:12, 7 May 2020 (UTC) [reply]

The pronunciation and the sound file where both added by Þjarkur. The standard way of pronouncing the word is /s/, but the emphasis on the "s" is an North Iceland variation and as such is an acceptable way of saying it. In his edit summary Þjarkur mentioned the IPA dataset by the Icelandic linguistician Eiríkur Rögnvaldsson, which is in English here: https://notendur.hi.is/eirikur/ipv.pdf . On page 8, there is further explanation about the regional difference between the North Iceland variation as compared to the common way of saying those things.--Snaevar (talk) 19:53, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

WikidataIB

[edit]

Thanks for the improvements to Module:WikidataIB/sandbox. Unfortunately, the functions like getAliases that have to load the entire entity are supposed to use the entity-id of the associated page if the qid parameter isn't provided, so when qid is nil, it's correct to call mw.wikibase.getEntity(qid) with a nil argument. You can test what happens for example by pasting

* = {{#invoke:WikidataIB |getAliases |fwd=ALL |qid=Q2191959}}
* = {{#invoke:WikidataIB/sandbox |getAliases |fwd=ALL |qid=Q2191959}}
* = {{#invoke:WikidataIB |getAliases |fwd=ALL}}
* = {{#invoke:WikidataIB/sandbox |getAliases |fwd=ALL}}

into Twospined angelfish and observing on preview that the last one returns nothing.

The fix is to change lines like

  • if not qid or not mw.wikibase.entityExists(qid) then return nil end

to allow nil qid values through:

  • if not mw.wikibase.entityExists(qid) then return nil end

Cheers --RexxS (talk) 02:20, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

AfC notification: Draft:Kyle McLagan has a new comment

[edit]
I've left a comment on your Articles for Creation submission, which can be viewed at Draft:Kyle McLagan. Thanks! Oltrepier (talk) 07:20, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Snævar, thank you for your work on the draft. Do you mind if I change the submitter from you to the creator so they get the acceptance message? No issue if you do. I will just leave a manual note on their talk page letting them know. Also, just an fyi, if you believe a draft is acceptable for mainspace you can move it yourself. There is no obligation for a draft to go through AfC, outside of things like COI/Paid or other restrictions. S0091 (talk) 16:52, 3 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, you can change the submitter. Looking at the talk page of the draft, the original author is a bit lost, so I will probably edit the article more than he will. As far as moving the article myself, this is an biography, and with that come bigger standards, so that would be why I have not moved it myself. Even if the article is good enough, the AfC process would just make it better, and that is a good thing. Snævar (talk) 17:00, 3 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it appears Kolskeggur, on top of being new, does not have strong English skills but they did try. :) Sorry, I did not mean to imply there was anything wrong with you submitting through AfC as it is open to all editors of course. I just did not want you to think you had to. While I am here, you might consider becoming an AfC reviewer. Shameless plug I know, but AfC needs all the help it can get. Question

[edit]

Why are you blocked me on Icelandic Wikipedia??? I told you about article, created by globally locked long term cross-wiki abuser (hoaxer). See blocklog of that account. Хоббит (talk) 15:08, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Confirmed by checkuser of English Wikipedia Zzuuzz. Хоббит (talk) 15:47, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
About my first edit (now deleted): maybe someone edited my comment, I wrote only one word 'Gabb' ('hoax'); that cross-wiki abuser several times edited my replicas. Хоббит (talk) 16:01, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
SPI is here: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Birdsflyinghigh123/Archive. If you want some info Snævar, I'm quite informed about it. Хоббит isn't the hoaxer here. Meanwhile I do recall seeing Birdsflyinghigh123 edit iswiki. -- zzuuzz (talk) 16:11, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Answered on the Icelandic wikipedia. No one is calling Хоббит a hoaxer.--Snævar (talk) 17:11, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Civility

[edit]

Please be advised that this comment does not meet the English Wikipedia's expectation of civility. Comments like You sound high to me and They also cover the aspect of trying to understand other peoples comments, something you are clearly lacking, as well as the closing comment that an editor that created an account three years ago "has the nerve" to question you are all unacceptable ways to communicate. Further, insulting and disparaging the editor, including the use of nationality to attempt to discredit them, are personal attacks. You stated that you know both the current rules and the ones that preceded them so I assume you are aware that Wikipedia:Civility (the fourth pillar) and Wikipedia:No personal attacks are matters of policy. Please keep these policies in mind moving forward. Thank you. - Aoidh (talk) 05:26, 11 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Istorrent

[edit]

I would love to expand the articles on Istorrent and/or Félag hljómplötuframleiðenda. If you can provide reliably sourced information, it would be greatly appreciated. My primary interest lies in accurately representing record charts and recording certifications, but I am limited by my lack of knowledge of the language and which local sources are reliable. If we can expand the Istorrent article to five times its current size, we could consider adding it to the DYK nomination. This seems feasible given the article's length on the Icelandic Wikipedia. --Muhandes (talk) 12:32, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The majority of the is:Istorrent covers controversies. Namely most of the "Fjölmiðlaumræður" (english: Newspaper discussions) chapter and it's sub-chapters covers controversies - distribution of stuff that both Americans and Europeans would find repulsive. Getting that article into English is not just an translation, it is also a matter of traversing that minefield. Snævar (talk) 20:31, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I will take your word for it. I'll be happy to cooperate on any other article in the future. Muhandes (talk) 10:02, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
