Conflict of interest BEING RECTIFIED THROUGH GAINING INDEPENDENT SOURCES

[edit]

Ladytwentytwo, I stumbled onto your comment at the help desk that you posted under your old username, Thenfactor. Due to your blatant conflict of interest, you should definitely not be creating an article for The N Factor Normandy Youth Club, the organization you founded and direct. Although I'm sure your stated intent to remain impartial is sincere, it simply is impossible to accomplish. It's your organization and you therefore obviously have a deeply personal, passionate interest in it. If the article gets approved, you should limit your participation to only making suggestions on the article's talk page. More importantly, you should fully disclose your conflict of interest whenever you participate in the article in an way. Other editors need to know that. I saw that Orange Mike warned you on your Thenfactor talk page. He's an administrator, so he'd be a good person to consult with any questions or concerns. In any case, I wish you the best of luck with your club. --76.189.109.147 (talk) 22:54, 22 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello 76.189.109.147, I am sorry I am slow to understand all aspects of this. I have not been doing this long. Is it in the Edit Summary that I disclose my Conflict of Interest for other editors to see? I wish to be transparent about my identity. And there would be no further participation on my part other than as you stated, leaving suggestions on the article's Note? page? Thanks for your patience. Please note, prior to my typing this article and editing it many times on Wikipedia, it was handwritten by a small group of elderly historians - who are not connected to, are not members of the youth club and have no personal emotional attachment to the subject. They took the published material from local authorities on the youth club - the same material that was used for references to state the history/ aims/ initiatives of the youth club and I typed it in onto Wikipedia. Being a novice, I realised that I should not have been involved at all. What do I need to do to prove that this article is impartial? And will remain so as I will not get involved in it again. Thanks 76.189.109.147 for your help, hello Orangemike are you there?Ladytwentytwo (talk) 01:33, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Lady. It is totally understandable that the process can be confusing since you're new. I have no doubt that your intentions are to do everything properly. I believe that the advice most very experienced editors and administrators would give someone about creating an article about themself or their own company/organization is: Don't do it! They might also add, "If a subject is truly notable and therefore worthy of a Wikipedia article, someone totally independent (impartial) of the subject will eventually create it. Or, you can seek out an experienced editor and ask if they would be willing to create it. There are specific notability guidelines for organizations like yours. All content in an article must also be notable (worthy of inclusion) and, very importantly, must be reliably sourced. In terms of those who provided you with the content of the article, that's really not relevant because you - the organization's founder and leader - are the one who created and wrote the article. And I assume you know the "elderly historians" personally, which would not qualify them as being independent, which is a very important tenet of Wikipedia. At any given time, there are hundreds of articles that people create about themselves or their organizations and most of them do not get approved (or get speedily deleted) because they're determined to be non-notable and used only for promotional purposes. In terms of disclosing your conflict of interest, no, you don't have to do that in the edit comments. It's something that can be done on the talk page of the article, when you're making edit suggestions, by making clear that your the founder and head of the organization. Orange Mike is a very experienced editor and administrator, so from this point on I would strongly recommend first getting his advice and guidance at each step if you're going to pursue the creation of the article. You can always post a message on Mike's talk page; just click on "New section" at the top of the page to start a thread. Be sure to type a subject in the Subject/headline field, then type your comments in the big box below it. By the way, when you make comments on any talk page, you should start it with one more colon than the comment before it. Each colon indents one space, which makes following the thread much easier for people. Indenting is considerd a behavioral guideline on Wikipedia. If you are the one starting the thread, then no colons are needed on the first post. Have a great day. --76.189.109.147 (talk) 06:53, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I looked over the article. In my opinion, the subject (The N Factor Normandy Youth Club) does not meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines, and I'm sorry to also say that the current eight sources do not meet Wikipedia's reliability requirements. Please read the guidelines regarding notability and reliable sources very carefully. Remember, this is a global encylopedia, so establishing notability is a high standard. Also, you must understand that the article is supposed to be about the club, not you and your personal accomplishments, regardless of how commendable they may be. Articles require reliable sources whose primary focus is clearly on the article's subject (in this case, the club) and establish its notability. The current sources either focus on you and your great work, or they have just brief mentions of the club. You even have an external link to a YouTube video - from an account with your name in it - which is about you receiving an award. Granted, the club apparently played a a huge role in that, but linking to that video is totally inappropriate because it's obviously not from a reliable source (independent and secondary). Generally, reliable sources require editoral oversight, such as mainstream newspapers, magazines and books. They are published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. See: Are IRC, MySpace, Facebook, and YouTube reliable sources?.--76.189.109.147 (talk) 07:57, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you 76.189.109.147 I see what you say and take your point. I will try and find an editor to completely re-evaluate the article and see about establishing notability through entirely independent sources. Thanks again. --Ladytwentytwo (talk) (UTC)
Thank you CAWylie for your editing, much appreciated.--Ladytwentytwo (talk) (UTC)
Hello CAWylie, if your good self or any other Edit Administrator picks up this message, I would just like to mention that the following was not included within the article originally. If someone else is kind enough to include it, it MAYBE considered an independent, reliable source by the Institute of Community Cohesion practitioner website forum that enables the sharing of good practice and resources. "The N Factor Normandy Youth Club casestudy no 311 is filed in the (iCoCo) website network forum as a Cohesion practitioner's example of a model of Community Cohesion". --Ladytwentytwo (talk) (UTC) 20:31, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Normandy Youth Club - The N-Factor

[edit]

Hello, I think there are two pages regarding Normandy Youth Club. That is Normandy Youth Club - The N-Factor and The N Factor Normandy Youth Club. Can you please merge these two pages if possible. For more information about merging visit these pages: H:M & WP:MERGE

And Orphan means that no other article in Wikipedia link to the Normandy Youth Club - The N-Factor page (answer to the talk page of Normandy Youth Club - The N-Factor). Not links to other articles. You can press What links here at the Toolbox at the left side of the page to view pages linking to the article. If you do not understand this, leave a message at my talk page. Thanks for all your contributions again. --Ushau97 talk contribs 11:21, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Ushau97, I will try and work out how I do this, your comments are appreciated. (Ladytwentytwo (talk) 11:39, 30 January 2013 (UTC))[reply]
I am really sorry Ushau97, I have read through for ages and still can't work out how to do this. I am also concerned because one of the articles is Stub-Class and the other was worthy of being a Start-Class article. I would very much like to make sure that I keep intact the Start-Class Created article that this duplicates. Could you point me in the right direction? Thanks for your kind help. (Ladytwentytwo (talk) 10:56, 31 January 2013 (UTC))[reply]
Hi again. I have now put a merge template at both pages. Someone will probably do this for you. (but remeber that it might take ages). Also I have put a discussion at Wikipedia:Proposed_mergers#Current_requests--Ushau97 talk contribs 11:46, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Ushua97 for all your efforts. Regards.(Ladytwentytwo (talk) 11:55, 31 January 2013 (UTC))[reply]

If you don't mind can you please remove that redirect in your user page to Normandy Youth Club - The N-Factor. Wikipedians normally have their user pages designed. To design your own user page visit WP:UPDC. Welcome once again to Wikipedia.--Ushau97 talk contribs 12:13, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No I don't mind at all, I will learn how to do it, more reading up on my part, thanks for the advice. (Ladytwentytwo (talk) 22:22, 31 January 2013 (UTC))[reply]

Adoption

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia, Ladytwentytwo! It can be a scary place out there without any help, and so I'm glad that you took notice of our adoption program. I, Brambleberry of RiverClan, would be willing to adopt you and help show you the ropes. Please respond on my talk page if you are interested in adoption. öBrambleberry of RiverClan 21:53, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption classroom

[edit]

All of my adoptees receive a classroom in which I teach you about Wikipedia. Your classroom is at User:Brambleberry of RiverClan/Adoption/Ladytwentytwo. I recommend that you add it to your watchlist so that you can see when I respond to something.

If you don't know how to add something to your watchlist, it's simple. There should be a hollow star on the same line that the "Read" and "Edit" tabs are. It will either be right after the heart or, if you don't have the heart, right after "View history". If you click that star, it will turn blue and a little notification will come up. Then if you go to "Watchlist" above that, you can see the last edit made. öBrambleberry of RiverClan 22:21, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Hasteur - your notice above had the "Wikipedia" address in it in the "If you would like to continue working... " section, not the "Wikipedia talk" address, so it's understandable that the user was confused. I have changed it.
@Ladytwentytwo: for technical reasons, these draft articles have to be at a "Wikipedia talk" address, not a "Wikipedia" address; your draft page has not been deleted, but it has been moved to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Bad Tune Men and that's where you should work on it. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 21:22, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hasteur, can you please tell me what CSDing means?(Ladytwentytwo (talk) 21:32, 12 March 2013 (UTC))[reply]
Lady22, if you're interested, the curious placing of AfC article drafts on talk pages has a reason, it's not done just to confuse newbies: the point is that unregistered (IP) users are able to create talk pages but cannot create other pages, and this is a way to allow them to submit articles to AfC. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 23:17, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks JohnCD, I am always interested in getting it right on Wikipedia, cheers JohnCD.(85.210.83.35 (talk) 10:06, 13 March 2013 (UTC))[reply]

I am regretfully announcing that I am going to have to step out as your adopter. I require active participation in the adoption process, and you don't seem to share that. I'm not just talking about your recent inactivity, but rather that you haven't asked questions like the other adoptees. I would have to give you a hint based on what I saw and put talkback on the page. Best hopes in finding another adopter. öBrambleberry of RiverClan 20:39, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
