Professional leagues in England

At this AfD [1] you stated that Aldershot Town F.C. football team is or was semi-pro. The main article for this team says it is professional in the lede section, see: Aldershot Town F.C.. This is confusing.

However, I am trying to understand what constitutes a professional league in England. It seems they are everywhere in that country - see:English Football League. Is it possible for you to explain what constitutes an English professional team that would merit notability on Wikipedia? Is notability mostly based on independent coverage in reliable sources? @Steve Quinn: Consensus is that a fully professiona league is one where the players are compensated enough that they do not need supplemental income, and that season articles are only appropriate for teams in those leagues. Team articles are appropriate for leagues at lower levels, and important statistics can be included in the team articles.

2018 FIFA World Cup qualification (CONCACAF)

@The Replicator: There are three columns for goal scorers in all the articles. To have two columns for own goals makes no sense as it introduces inconsistent formatting into the article. Right now the consensus at WP:FOOTY is to have three columns for goal scorers, including own goals. If I hadn't made the change, someone else would have. substituting Template:nfa

Can you help me with your recent edits to 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification – AFC Third Round. Is there something wrong with using the Template:nfa that it needs reverting to original text ? @Matilda Maniac: The text of the template documentation had read "This template is intended to be substituted," akin to {{nft}} and {{nwft}}. I altered the documentation to include {{subst only}} to make it more clear that the intent is for it to be substituted. It is true that the intent of a template is to make repetitive tasks simpler, as it is far easier to type {{subst:nfa|USA}} than it is to type [[United States Soccer Federation|United States]]. All I did in the article was to add subst: to the template calls as directed in the template documentation. — Jkudlick • t • c • s 10:24, 17 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
my apologies. I hadnt realised that using subst causes the wikitext saved as a result of the edit to differ from the text which the user actually entered in the edit window. It just appeared to me that you were typing in the longhand version. I will still use nfa|AUS or equivalent for (Australia) in football boxes - as its easier for me - knowing that at some point these can all get substituted by an editor or a bot at a later time. Invite to the African Destubathon

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. ANI Experiences survey

The Wikimedia Foundation Community health initiative (led by the Safety and Support and Anti-Harassment Tools team) is conducting a survey for en.wikipedia contributors on their experience and satisfaction level with the Administrator’s Noticeboard/Incidents. Nwft template

Hi!

Your edit to the Nwft template and maybe others has broken several articles because that template was often used without the subst: and with the 3-letter code instead of the full country name. Granted, those occurences should have used subst:, but some articles didn't (such as Belgium women's national football team), and AnomieBOT has afterwards subst'ed these but only after your edit to the template, which has resulted in the bot creating constructs such as MEX.

Why did you so drastistically simplify the Nwft template? It makes it less consistent with related templates such as Template:Nfa. The point of these templates is to speed up typing anyway (as established in this discussion), e.g. CZE is quicker (and safer) to type than Czech Republic. So I'm curious what was wrong with the previous code, as your edit only commented "updating code". Sygmoral (talk) 16:31, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Question regarding your work on the service awards

Hi, quick question for you... when you were creating the new ribbons for all the service awards, how were you doing it? I am getting ready to update a number of military awards, including fixing their ribbons. Right now I'm looking at doing it in photoshop, but I recall once seeing a tool online for quickly creating ribbons. just curious if you had any insight since your ribbons are excellent looking. thanks! @Wegates: Thanks for the compliment! I actually just use a text editor, like Notepad, to edit the SVG code and view the results in a web browser. I experiment with colors using MSPaint and get the RGB values from the color select menu. A lot of it is trial and error trying to get the colors right or the shapes in just the right places. Getting the stars right was the trickiest part since I needed to use trigonometry to figure out where the star points needed to be. I never thought of doing them with direct svg code! that makes total sense. I'm not too worried about doing things like stars and weird shapes for what I'm working on, as I'm doing US military ribbons and they are all vertical stripes. Thanks for the help!
