Awfully kind...

...of you to say so! I tend to obsess over my articles a bit, so they're a slow process, but I'm delighted you think they're of that good a quality! It helps as well that some of the people I write about are such characters, though Collier was one of my more melancholy subjects, but one who certainly deserved a decent article. One again, thank you! Benea (talk) 00:08, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

IRC

If you are online, as your page says you are, could you come talk on IRC about Spotlight? Thanks.  Mm40 (talk | contribs)  02:29, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

As you can probably tell, I wasn't online at that time. I use my "status" as more of a long-term notification; if I'll be gone for 48 hours, then I'll mark myself as "offline". I have very rarely been on IRC recently, but perhaps I could join the channel some other time, if it works out. Best, JamieS93 15:54, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Haha

This is the nest. This is the next nest. Please keep them straight! rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 14:24, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Rofl, that really gave me a laugh. :D JamieS93 14:33, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the notice. I'm still new at DYK standards. I'm expanding Howard D. Graves' article as we speak. I should have it done in the next hour or so.  Ahodges7   talk 14:51, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

It should be good now.  Ahodges7   talk 15:58, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

RFA thanks

My RFA passed today at 61/5/4. Thanks for participating in my RFA. I appreciate all the comments I received and will endeavor to justify the trust the WP community has placed in me. Have a nice day. :-) AdjustShift (talk) 21:22, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
Thank you very much, Jamie. I know you since my newbiehood on WP. BTW, when are you running for adminship? I'll definitely support you. Do you want me to nominate you for adminship? AdjustShift (talk) 21:58, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
Many thanks for your support. :) It seems like a lot of people recently are wanting me to run for adminship again (my first one was in August). BTW, I have two editors who are willing to nominate me already, Mailer diablo and Royalbroil, but if you'd like to also co-nom I think that would be alright. :) So I've been definitely thinking about RfA as a possibility soon, and have been doing something of a RfA question warm-up recently, too. ;) JamieS93 22:11, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
Usually 2 noms are the maximum, so you're set, Jamie. Mailer Diablo left a message on my talk page about your admin testing/coaching page. I've left you some questions. Royalbroil 02:00, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll take a look at that soon! JamieS93 02:02, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the smile! It definitely cheered up my day between bits of RL and Wikipedia. Nice work with compiling updates too; I try to rotate between approving and assembling because I don't want to put a hook I've approved into the queue. I'd imagine it'll happen some time, but while we've got enough people like you, things will run smoothly. Shubinator (talk) 22:21, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

Re: Bella Twins GAR

Thanks so much for the review. I really wasn't expecting it this early, you caught me off guard! :) Anyway, I see 'Blue managed to get most of the problems, and I think I fixed the remaining ones, if you'd like to check it back over. Thanks again! ♥NiciVampireHeart12:20, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

thanks again for both the review, and the pass. :) Much appreciated! ♥NiciVampireHeart17:02, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

If you want to tweak the wording I'm more than OK with that, but just as a factual matter, I did go ahead and include the non-extant tombs on the list. I just had the table start collapsed, with the option of expansion. Savidan 21:16, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, Jamie, for the translation on Calleras and tagging its talk page. I removed the expand tag. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:27, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

What's the deal with not check the history when it comes to VfD? You put a tag yet again and removed verifiable sources. The Lutheran is a well known publication - www.thelutheran.com and Wiki cites All Music Guide

See, we've been through VfD twice and both have resulted in Keep!

1st time: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Lost_and_Found_(band) 2nd time: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Lost_and_Found_(Christian_rock_band)

And sources were quoted as per this edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Lost_and_Found_(Christian_rock_band)&oldid=284799569

Your edits are the ones that changed the article - again - after we've been through VfD twice. —Preceding unsigned comment added by KagomeShuko (talkcontribs) 03:46, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, I'll have to get to that. Bugboy52.4 (talk) 01:55, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, I had to switsh scripts, one overwrites articles, and one does, but can you check to see that I didn't overwrite any other articles? Bugboy52.4 (talk) 01:58, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
I still haven't figured that bug out yet, it seems to skip some on the list at random. Bugboy52.4 (talk) 02:04, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

DYK notice?

As you were the one to add '76 to the 'nex update', I was wondering about when I (and article discussion) was going to get notified that the DYK is featured in Mainspace. I am unclear of protocol here. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 16:28, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Usually the DYK contributors/nominators promptly get notified of their hook on the main page as soon as it's promoted there. There was a delay this time (see WT:DYK), but I'm doing the credits now. Best, JamieS93 16:34, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Frankly,I suspected it was just a delay, what with the backlog and all. I appreciate you taking an active hand in the matter, and bid you a fine, jumping-around-in-the sun/rain-like-a-kid weekend. :) - Arcayne (cast a spell) 17:04, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Haha, thanks. Maybe that's what I need right now. ;) Sometimes a DYK admin does the update itself but doesn't have the time to give credits to the article talkpages and nominators, but the delay is usually pretty short and someone comes along to hand them out within an hour or so. Cheers, JamieS93 17:07, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Semi-Protection

Hi I'm a very inexperienced Wikipedian and I had a question I hoped you could answer. I had undone some vandalism on two pages and as I looked throught the history of the pages they had consistently very high levels of vandalism. I read the Wikipedia protection policy and this is a qualification for Semi-Protection. However, only administrators can apply protection to articles. I know that you're not an admin, but you seem like an experienced and knowledgable Wikipedian so I was hoping that you would know if there is a way I can contact an admin to request Semi-Protection of pages, or if you know and admin and could connect me to them. The articles I think should be Semi-Protected are: Methylenedioxymethamphetamine and Zodiac killer, in case that makes any difference. Neil Clancy (talk) 20:52, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

checkY Done I agreed, so I semi-protected each page for 1 month. You can request protection at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection (WP:RFPP). Jamie has a lot of respect in the community, so some admins are watching her page. Hopefully Jamie can become an admin pretty soon, Neil, so please keep your eyes on WP:RFA for the next few weeks. Jamie, I was getting messages like this right before I became an admin! Royalbroil 23:55, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
Aw, thanks. :) I couldn't be online to reply to this one, but I guess you handled it thanks to talk page stalking. ;) JamieS93 14:42, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Alright thank you Royalbroil, I'll be sure to refer to the RFPP page in the future. And Jamie, I hope you're successful in your RFA, you certainly seem to deserve the position. Neil Clancy (talk) 23:54, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Grrr your "Back to top" link is bothering me-you can't read whatever is at the bottom of the page! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Neil Clancy (talkcontribs) 20:58, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Hmm... maybe that's how it shows up on certain web browsers? I know it shows up fine for me and a few other people, but I'll take a look and see if it's floating too high on the page. JamieS93 14:42, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi, User:JamieS93
User:MacGyverMagic, whom is part of WP:GAN suggested a copyedit before The Naked Brothers Band: The Movie could be graded.
I was wondering if you could take a look into copyediting it.
Please reply on my talk page when you get the chance.
Thanx!
ATC . Talk 11:35, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Thank you so much in taking the time to copy-edit it.
If you have any questions about anything about the movie; I retyped the entire article, which is a major improvement from where it was originally—just ask me, and I will answer it on the talk page. ATC . Talk 21:39, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi, just to let you know - I wouldn't of known the best way to phrase it so I said "interview". They weren't asked questions about the band being originated. They were "telling" you. All the band members were sitting in different area's telling you how the band was originated and what not. Kind of like in This is Spinal Tap. Thanx! ATC . Talk 23:51, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

DYK for Love Like This (album)

Updated DYK query On April 30, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Love Like This (album), which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Ahhh - another CCM article on the main page! You got me hummin' again! Royalbroil 11:59, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi

I just came across your page and i loved it. Could you please help me out in Creating a Navigation bar as u did ..Plz Subash.chandran007 —Preceding undated comment added 15:08, 30 April 2009 (UTC).

Hi, and thanks for the comment. :) I believe I initially lifted my "NavBar" from Thehelpfulone. My navigation bar is transcluded onto my userpage from located here, where you can edit the page and take a look at the raw code. To use it yourself, copy the code and replace all of the "JamieS93" links with your username. Then, save it on a subpage such as → User:Subash.chandran007/NavBar.
However, my bar links to user sub-pages that I've created such as User:JamieS93/DYKs, so to make it work you'd have to create subpages for the ones that you want. For instance, if you want a "userboxes" page, it could go here. Remove the lines that you don't care about (i.e, "DYKs"), and you can add on and change as you go. Cheers, JamieS93 17:04, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Apologies for the delay. I've written up my section and only just passed it to Royalbroil. After the co-nom is up, fill up the questions and acceptance and you're good to go.

No rush for the question sections, take your time before floating the ship out of the drydock. Good luck and all the best for your RfA! - Cheers, Mailer Diablo 16:45, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Oh my, almost beginning. :) I believe I will accept the nomination tomorrow, once Royalbroil drops a co-nom (that would work out best for me). Thanks for the best wishes. JamieS93 21:15, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
I added my co-nom, so it's ready whenever you are. Good luck and Godspeed! Royalbroil 04:10, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
I accepted the nomination, and transcluded. We'll see how it rolls. :) JamieS93 18:10, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi Jamie, I have a query which you might find o-so-dumb, but I am just not able to figure out how to do it... this "Contents" box that is there at the beginning of your talke page, like 1.awfully kind..., 2.IRC, etc... how do I make one appear on my page? I just dont understand which template to pick... I have gone thru so many pages to see if i can understand the transcluded templates, but am not able to figure out, pls advise me on what to pick! RfA Question

Just so you know, I asked you a question at your RfA---I'm Spartacus! NO! I'm Spartacus! 18:43, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

I've left you a couple questions as well. BLP is a really important area on WP right now, so if you could answer the questions as soon as possible, that would be appreciated. Thanks. GlassCobra 21:08, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
I've been formulating my answers carefully, to make sure I'm accurately representing myself with the BLP issue. (I've answered the initial question.) Soon I'll have to be offline for a couple of hours (eating dinner, etc), so I probably can't get to your questions immediately. Best, JamieS93 22:20, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
I've answered all of the BLP questions. Thanks. JamieS93 02:48, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Copyediting

I don't mean to nudge but just a reminder about copyediting The Naked Brothers Band: The Movie.
ATC . Talk 20:35, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm a little busy right now, so I can't get to it actively at the moment. I've looked through the majority of the article, but will do another run-through within the next couple of days to complete the copyedit. Sorry about the delay. Best, JamieS93 20:42, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
No problem, just making sure you were continuing to edit. :) ATC . Talk 23:26, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Your RFA

Hey Jamie, how are you doing? I've voted on the positive side of your RFA, and it looks like it will pass! Good luck! :-) AdjustShift (talk) 03:37, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Thank you. :-) Naturally, I had some stress in varying levels, but not badly. I'm doing fine now, just refreshing the rev history page often. ;) At least it's turning out smoothly, in the sense that there's really no issues with drama, just the regular churn of opinions and comments. We'll just see how it turns out. JamieS93 03:48, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
You've got mail. :-) AdjustShift (talk) 15:19, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Please don't take my oppose personally, I've got absolutely nothing against high-school students. If it were only possible to separate the block function from the rest of the admin tools then I'd have been lining up with your supporters. Not that I've got any reason to suppose that you'd go mad with the block button, but, well you know, I'd prefer that eminent professors of whatever weren't blocked by high-school students. No hard feelings I hope? Looks like your RfA will pass easily without my support anyway. :-) --Malleus Fatuorum 03:18, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

I appreciate that Malleus, thanks. :-) That's kind of how I viewed your oppose all along; no hard feelings, and like Juliancolton said, it's valid, and I'm really fine with you stating that opinion. Just so you know, I only plan on using 2/3 of the buttons, since I've become fairly rusty with the blocking. I know the policy well enough to explain it to someone, but not enough experience to carry out the task. It's just not something I'm going to do, because honestly, I haven't done AIV reports in a long time, so I really wouldn't trust myself to be up to scratch. Best, JamieS93 12:04, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Premature Congrats

This may be premature, but I am going to be traveling and may not have access to the internet for a few days. Anyway, unless something drastic occurs it looks as if you will be promoted to Admin... which is a good thing... I don't know if you know it, but both times you've run, an admin has stepped down!---I'm Spartacus! NO! I'm Spartacus! 05:17, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks. :-) And yeah, I know - for some reason I've indirectly desysopped admins and driven users away from the project at each RfA. :/ It's usually others' conflicts among themselves that tend to escalate quick, before I know it - must be coincidental, that's all I can derive. ;) Thanks again, JamieS93 13:42, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

I might be a away too, and I see no reasonable doubt... So congrats! I have been following your nomination, as I really was hoping you would run again, but not directly involved, since all I usually ever do on RfAs is support...everyone. Good luck with the tools, here's something to do at 18:08, 12 May 2009 UTC. Good luck! ;)--Res2216firestar 15:23, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Congratulations. Here are what pass for words of wisdom from the puppy:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

Thank You

Thank you very much for deleting the pages that I requested to be deleted. By the way, how does it work that you know that it should be deleted, do you get an email or something of the sort? Zachary

Hi there. When you request a page to be deleted using the {{db}} template, the page goes into Category:Candidates for speedy deletion. There admins can see which pages are up for deletion and delete them as necessary. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 11:24, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for this (blush). Thank you for fixing the formatting on my comment here. Are you able to tell me when and how the discussion for an AFD closes? Thanks in advance. --Jklein212 (talk) 14:11, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

AFDs run for 7 days, and generally they are closed at that time, or relisted. This AfD has been going for a week now, and because there wasn't enough discussion for consensus to form, I decided to relist it. It's hard to say how an AfD discussion will conclude, especially since you've changed the article some; I think we'll have to rely on a few others that they'll come and drop in their opinion on this article. Best, JamieS93 15:11, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
Okay, thank you. If the AFD were to remain as it was, what would've happened to the article at that point? Just wondering for future reference. Thanks, again--Jklein212 (talk) 15:15, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
The article would have stayed around until an admin dealt with the AfD - in this case, the main course of action was to relist it. There were a few comments in the AfD, which were basically split between "keep" and "delete"; you came along and made some changes to the article, so those "delete" opinions might be forfeited, or they might not. There wasn't much discussion, and since the article had changed throughout those 7 days, this case called for "relisting" the debate. I doubt that an admin would have closed it otherwise, as either "keep" or "no consensus", and probably another editor would have objected to that kind of action. JamieS93 15:50, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Barnstar

The Working Woman's Barnstar
I award this barnstar to two fantastic lady editors JamieS93 and Orlady for their participation in vetting other contributors' DYK suggestions at Template talk:Did you know.

The high-visibility work of frequently contributing DYK articles often gets recognition, but the lower-visibility work of vetting other contributors' DYK suggestions at TT:DYK (something that makes the DYK process "go") often go unnoticed. JamieS93 and Orlady: thanks for your work that makes the DYK process "go". AdjustShift (talk) 17:18, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Possible deletion of unused template

A template you created, Template:Ayiesha Woods, has been marked for deletion as a deprecated and orphaned template. If, after 14 days, there has been no objection, the template will be deleted. If you wish to object to its deletion, please list your objection here and feel free to remove the {{deprecated}} tag from the template. If you feel the deletion is appropriate, no further action is necessary. Thanks for your attention. R'n'B (call me Russ) 16:15, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Russ, I removed the deprecated tag after utilizing the template over a few different articles (the Ayiesha Woods-related ones linked on the template). After creating the navbox, I must have forgotten to actually transclude it on the topic's articles! Thanks, JamieS93 16:39, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

DYK error on Main Page

From WP:ERRORS, the "plane of the ecliptic" hook isn't correct. The plane is close to the plane of all the planets's, but actually is only the Earth's. Could you fix it? Shubinator (talk) 02:01, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Excuse my being kind of tired, but I don't quite understand that? I guess what I'm aiming at is, how should the hook be changed? :) JamieS93 02:05, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
Hmm, here's a straightforward one:
  • ... that the plane of the ecliptic (effect pictured) is the imaginary plane of the Earth as it orbits the Sun?
Can't think of a more interesting one off the top of my head. Shubinator (talk) 02:07, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
Done, looks alright to me (I think I get it now... I first thought "plane" meant this, I'm that tired). Thanks for the poke. But I think I need some rest now... ;) JamieS93 02:15, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

PWG

One of the articles in Next, List of PWG World Tag Team Champions, has only one reference that's not sourced to PWG, and that's a fan site. The hook itself is a straight fact, but I'm concerned by the lack of reliable third-party sources. There are two other PWG articles nominated for DYK with the same issue. I think it should be pulled, but I'd like to know your opinion. (The nominator has responded to the other two PWG articles here and here.) Shubinator (talk) 18:32, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

I've been (somewhat) involved in WP:PW before (reviewed a GAN, skimmed through their articles) and from what I recall, this is the norm for the project under some circumstances. The article (List of PWG Tag Team Champions) seems to be otherwise well-written – I know this will sound weak, but everything else in the article definitely follows the WikiProject's norm (arrangement and formatting), so I'm thinking that the author is more knowledgeable about the topic and how it is referenced than we are. Third-party sources are certainly preferred, but SPS doesn't disallow the possibility altogether. Have you contacted the author directly? Like I said, there may be a missing puzzle piece that we're not aware of, not being experts on the subject. If anything, it would probably be best to revert my edits and toss the article back in the T:TDYK pool to discuss the issue. Best, JamieS93 18:58, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
Ok, will do. Maybe I'll start a discussion at WT:DYK to keep the discussion in one place. Shubinator (talk) 19:02, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
Yes, not a bad idea, since it applies to a repeating pattern, a small group of articles. The style guide is worth taking a look at (they are a pretty well-organized project), but it doesn't say anything about that source in particular, or first-party referencing in general. Unless there is another unstated normality, I'm now beginning to question this self-published usage, too. JamieS93 19:09, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
Discussion opened. The style guide is interesting. Shubinator (talk) 19:36, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi, re your closure of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cocos (Keeling) Islands national football team, the above article was included in the nomination. I believe it should be deleted as well. Thanks, WWGB (talk) 00:32, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Did something change?

I've seen two hooks I've nom'ed have hit the main page, and received no credit for them. The last of which was done by you (Graham Fuller as evidenced from the bot). Did something change to where the nom isn't credited, or was the credit set wrong? Syn 01:07, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

There's a bug with the bot, it doesn't do nom credits. Hopefully Nix will fix it soon. Feel free to credit yourself (and watch the queues to credit those who have been missed). talk page stalker Shubinator (talk) 01:12, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
Interesting. I'll be watching the bot's contribs closer to try to spot those missing "nom" credits, though somebody else would probably catch them before me. And thanks TPS. ;-) JamieS93 18:24, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Request to close AfD's

I was looking for an admin willing to close a few peculiar AfD's and saw your name on Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Log/2009_May_18. These are three AfD's made by unregistered users, and were therefore not listed on the usual pages. The articles are Julius Ylitalo (nominated 17 May 2009), Nicado (nominated 15 May 2009), and List of monarchs of Naples and Sicily (nominated on 17 May 2009).

If you'll allow me to state my opinion as well, I think the two last articles should be deleted, while I wouldn't know about the first one. Debresser (talk) 10:57, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

I've opened deletion discussions for the first and third articles, since the IP nominator provided a reason on the article talkpages (just didn't complete the procedure properly). If they had tagged the articles without posting a reason anywhere, I would have simply removed the tags. Looks like Synergy did the same with Nicado, opening a discussion page for the nominator. Let those three AfDs run the week-long session, drop your opinion at the discussions if you want, and we'll see how it turns out. Best, JamieS93 15:08, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
Thank you. Is that what sould be done, opening the case for the unregistered user? Debresser (talk) 15:36, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
Yes, this is usually done, if the user provides a rationale (that's fairly sensible, not a vandalistic or bad-faith nom). In all three of these cases, the IPs had nominated the articles for deletion and wrote their "statements", simply placed on the wrong page. On the other hand, nominations that have no rationale are speedy closed, or the AfD tag removed from the article if no discussion page had been created. Best, JamieS93 18:18, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. Debresser (talk) 18:55, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Comma wars

See this edit. For better or worse, I have been adding a comma after each state in that context, according to the "In geographic names" paragraph of the comma article. Art LaPella (talk) 00:31, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

That's interesting. I'd heard of that section in the comma article being referenced to, but didn't realize that it with American English, it applies to commas after all city/state occurrences. If that's most accurate, then I suppose we should use it. I personally dislike the extra comma, though, because hooks tend to read clumsy and sure looks like a typo. JamieS93 00:55, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
Most Wikipedians, including me, agree it looks strange. But I haven't found any (alleged) punctuation experts who agree. Here are some references I collected on an earlier iteration of this issue: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] The last reference sits on the fence to some extent, but all the other references I found unambiguously demanded the comma. As for American English, it would be hard to argue that a rule about U.S. states only applies to the UK. Art LaPella (talk) 01:36, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

I need some advice pls!

Hi Jamie, I had seen the following article while patrolling, it has no inline citations or references, but only has an external reference of a website, so i placed the tag of "unreferenced" on it. Its author requests me to remove the tag and says that it is not necessary for articles to have inline citations and that an external reference is enough! So he/she insists that I should remove the unreferenced tag! Is it so? This is the article My Life (Ronnie Milsap album). I have removed the tag for now since he/she is so sure that its not appropriate. Lilaac (talk) 19:23, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

I saw the discussion on your talkpage. The user is quite right, actually; {{unreferenced}} generally applies to articles that have no referencing whatsoever. My Life (Ronnie Milsap album) has a list reference (Allmusic), so it's disqualified from that tag. For future reference, a more appropriate template to use would be {{nofootnotes}}. Inline citations are certainly encouraged, and that maintenance tag is a good one to use. At this point, though, it's probably not the best idea to add that tag to the article. Perhaps you could just reply to the editor and tell them that you mixed up the usage of {{unreferenced}}. Best, JamieS93 20:46, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks a lot Jamie! Also, thanks for letting me know about the welcome template subst!Lilaac (talk) 21:14, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Pro Wrestling Superstars

The page is a hoax. It needs to be deleted before it spreads to create more false rumors across the web. Which will happen in the wrestling community for sure. --DanteAgusta (talk) 18:42, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

The criterion you used to tag the page was G4, which is for articles previously deleted through a discussion (WP:AFD). Perhaps you meant to use G3 (obvious hoaxes, vandalism, etc.)? In any case, G3 is used very sparingly with hoaxes, and those cases are generally taken to AfD if not blatantly obvious. Best, JamieS93 18:45, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
Ah, I am afraid I am not good with these templates. I will go read the pages more thoroughly, see if I can figure it out lol.--DanteAgusta (talk) 20:11, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Why was Aqeza deleted?

I just uploaded the Aqeza page and you deleted it for being an "unambiguous copyright violation." You have made a mistake. I wrote the page and am the author. I also happen to be an intellectual property lawyer and I practice copyright law. I know copyright infringement. This is not it. So, please "undelete."

Thanks.

Slrpwr (talk) 00:46, 5 June 2009 (UTC)Bill

Hi Slrpwr. The article was tagged for speedy deletion as a copyright violation. After Google searching certain phrases within the article, it turned up results to subpages of Aqeza's official website. All of Wikipedia's text content must be "free licensed" under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL). This means that the text is free to distribute, and does not hold a real copyright to it. The Aqueza article was a complete copy from the website's commercial pages (now "error 404", but the text still shows up in a Google search). This is not compatible with Wikipedia, per Wikipedia:Copyrights. The best way around this issue would be to write the article in different words, and back up the information by citing reliable sources. Best, JamieS93 15:37, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Where is AfD for Plenum Cable?

You have screwed up. The website PDF you cite is in fact a copy of the wikipedia article you just deleted.

http://www.lanshack.com/pdf/PlenumVsRiser.pdf

I know this, because the illustrations in that "copyrighted" PDF were created by me FOR WIKIPEDIA.

14:36, 4 October 2007 (hist) (diff) File:Building Plenum - Unintended.png ‎ (Example of a typical commercial building with the space above the drop-ceiling acting as an air-return plenum. If a fire were to start above the drop ceiling, toxic fumes would be drawn into the open-air system and potentially poison building occupants b)

The following text in that PDF was written by me FOR WIKIPEDIA.

Note that diligence is required to make sure that a non-plenum airspace stays that way. A non-plenum airspace can become a plenum airspace by accident if the ductwork is Plenum (CMP) Vs. Riser (CMR) Cable Types for Cat 5 and Cat 6 disconnected and not properly repaired and resealed. Ductwork disconnection can occur due to building damage such as earthquakes, aging or adverse environment causing the metal to corrode and fall apart, or simply negligence on the part of building contractors that leave work unfinished. In all such cases, discovery and repair of such problems to eliminate unintended plenums is difficult due to the hidden nature, limited space, and difficult access of most installed drop ceilings. For highest fire safety it is best to assume all drop-ceiling airspaces are plenums, whether or not they are officially designated as one.

I don't see this article mentioned in the deletion log: Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Log/2009_June_5

I shall have to see what it takes to get your deletion reversed. DMahalko (talk) 04:53, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

I've looked into this situation, and it may not be as straightforward as I originally thought. I still stand by my action, though. To me, it still looks like the website is copyrighted (it's not clearly a Wikipedia mirror). The PDF page makes an interesting statement near the bottom: "The information on this page is an original copyrighted article. We welcome you to link this page from your website. However, copying this article in whole or in part is strictly prohibited." That doesn't sound like GFDL, and I honestly can't see proof that you were the original author, besides uploading the images.
Nonetheless, I will be undeleting the page and bringing this case to WP:CP as a possible copyright problem. If there is something obvious I've missed, please let me know (or drop a note on that page). Regards, JamieS93 16:17, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Deletion reversed, now listed at WP:CP at the bottom. On a side note, in response to you mentioning the AFD log: I speedy deleted the article after somebody tagged it, instead of deleting it through an AFD discussion. Best, JamieS93 16:25, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Since Wikipedia is generally a free GFDL site, anyone is free to rip from it and recopyright the content, apparently. However the illustrative content was created by me and I can prove it because I have the original documents used to create the PNG image. I am not going to upload these as evidence in this thread, however since the thieving bastards at that site can of course download them and then claim it as their work as well.
What defense can be offered against people who take what is freely given by wikimedia, and then claim as theirs to remove it from the original free source?
I am pouring my heart and soul into making Wikipedia better with illustrations in articles that desperately need them. See my most recent additions to digital light processing and my illustrative movies in Otto engine. I destroyed an old DLP projector to make those images, and I'll be damned if I'm going to let someone outside of Wikipedia claim that as their copyrighted work. DMahalko (talk) 21:10, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Actually this current problem seems to be a good reason to NOT create illustrative works in an open-standards easily-editable file format such as SVG. Had I made this as an SVG I would have no evidence to demonstrate myself as the original creator. Since I used Microsoft Word for making the originals, the drawing is "baked" into the PNG and my original work cannot be extracted to recreate it. If some other editor wants to redo my PNG/JPG/whatever as a free SVG format, at least I still have my original drawing files to fall back on for situations like this.
Also it appears I need to save all my original project files, for the illustrations/movies I create for wikipedia, so as to have evidence against situations like this in the future. DMahalko (talk) 21:40, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
People on wikipedia have already recreated my JPG/PNG illustrations as SVG, as has been done in the Laser printer article and I am fine with that. At least I can source back to my original drawing files for how a laser printer works inside..
File:RIP Data Flow.jpg‎
File:Corona charging.jpg‎
File:Laser printer-Writing.png
File:LaserPrinter-Fusing.jpg‎
- - -
And the versions made by other annoyed free file format SVG-purist editors recreated from the above:
File:RIP Data Flow.svg
File:Corona charging.svg
File:Laser printer-Writing.svg‎
File:Laser printer fusing.svg‎
- - -
DMahalko (talk) 21:57, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for explaining. I had an inkling thought that perhaps the website took the information and claimed as their own copyrighted material. Out of curiosity, I went to the Wayback Machine to possibly find a history on that PDF page (no results). But like you said, how can you prove either side of the coin? After looking into each individual diff (around April 2006), the main content came from IP editors and was generally added in bits; things were tweaked along the way. These signs are basically opposite of WP:SPCV, so it really doesn't look like a copyvio at this point. Best, JamieS93 00:38, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Barnegat Fund Management was Deleted

I guess if the consensus was that this article should be deleted, then I would like you to help me reinstate proposed deletions for these hedge fund advertisements as well.

  • Soros Fund Management
  • The Children's Investment Fund Management
  • Bridgewater Associates
  • Citadel Investment Group
  • D.E. Shaw & Co.
  • Fortress Investment Group
  • Long-Term Capital Management
  • Man Group
  • Renaissance Technologies
  • Amaranth Advisors

Since these are all very similar articles discussing how "great" all these hedge funds are and describing some of their trades and investment strategies, then it is only just to either delete them as well or un-delete the Barnegat Fund Management page.--Djbarnes (talk) 15:05, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Those articles are different, and the level of notability varies between them, so I couldn't delete all of the articles altogether per the consensus at the AfD (which applied to only one article). I would suggest that you bring perhaps one or two or those articles to WP:AFD with a good deletion reason, and see how the discussion goes. Nominating them all together in a bundle wouldn't the best action because, like I said, the articles don't seem to be closely related (WP:BUNDLE offers some advice about that). JamieS93 15:53, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

List of black historical heroes AfD

I don't think one !vote less than an hour after the AfD began qualifies as a "snowball delete" and I'm not sure what CSD you were using for the "speedy". I'm not going to take this to DRV but I simply cannot comprehend your rationale for summarily deleting the article against procedure. Yes, I agree that it should be deleted, but it appears that you just acted with your own opinion without letting the community weigh in on the article. From now on please let AfDs like this continue longer. ThemFromSpace 03:56, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. If I may briefly explain something: at the time, I debated with myself about this article. At first I was just skimming the AfD logs, and didn't even consider closing the discussion. Upon looking into it further, though, it became clear to me that the article simply did not stand a chance, the title alone and otherwise. Thus the "WP:SNOW" rationale wasn't based on the actual amount of !votes, but instead upon intuition ("doesn't stand a chance" clause). Same goes for the quotation of "speedy"; SDs are almost always based on the criteria, but sometimes it's applied as a concept for on-the-spot deletion (i.e., AfD, log). Basically, at the time I considered this to be an IAR case.
Backstory aside, I must agree with you: it was an iffy decision on my part and I'll hold back from those closures in the future. Best, JamieS93 14:54, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Although I agree with your closure of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cocoa Locale, I'm concerned that you are closing contentious AfDs like this one when you explicitly said at your RFA that "I didn't mention anything about closing AfDs with admin tools – that's because I don't plan on working there. I haven't been participating in AfDs in recent times, because I've just naturally drifted into other areas. And whenever I return to AfD to make a comment or two, I tend to feel unfamiliar with the process there. I've come to a conclusion for myself: AfD just isn't my thing as much." What has changed in the last month that has increased your comfort zone at AfD? I looked through your contributions and cannot see much AfD participation. I don't mean to be accusatory, but it's concerning to me that admins who are "unfamiliar with the (AfD) process" are now closing these processes. Cunard (talk) 18:03, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

To be honest, I'm not precisely sure, but watching others has played a large part. At the time of my RfA, I just didn't trust myself with stepping into AFD, and I hadn't cozied up to the !voting side of things in recent times. I had a passing thought that if there was a backlog, I might close one or two unanimous cases, like any admin. My first real closure and first deletion were both not too complicated. From there, step by step, I began to be involved at AFD more, because it seemed interesting. I observed many diverse closures, and got back into the feel (yes, there was once a day when I was a semi-regular participant). I began watching and re-learning all of the terms used at XfDs, which are pertinent to weighing arguments. My adminly duties are simply different than I expected, too; I don't work at WP:RPP or edit protection requests, and while I do make speedy deletions, AfD is has been a good alternative to working with the scum at CAT:SD.
I'm still a newer admin, and I've made a couple of mistakes. One important thing is to judge what you're best at, and know where your personal limits are—and I try to aim for this so as to maintain others' trust in me. At this point I know I cannot say the same about myself ("unfamiliar with the process"), and I was primarily referring to the literal !voting with that comment. If editors advise, I'm all open to backing away from AFD. But I'll be honest, I think the majority of my closures have been fine (after much observation, this now feels right within my comfort zone), and I've only received one complaint. By the way, only today did I learn that you aren't an admin. This came as a complete shock. o_O JamieS93 19:36, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
I don't have any issues with your AfD closes; I've reviewed a number of them and see no problems, save for the AfD that ThemFromSpace brought up. As long as you don't close contentious AfDs (such as this one), I encourage you to keep up your good work.

BTW, why did you think I was an admin, and how did you find out? My userpage is adorned with words that are not present on any of the admins' userpages. :P Cunard (talk) 20:02, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Yep, I would never handle an AfD at that level. For some strange reason, I was convinced (since my first RFA) that you were an admin and that I'd seen your deletion log or something. You just act incredibly experienced and know how deletion works to a T. Not sure how I found out just now... perhaps you made a comment that alluded to it somewhere, but I could have sworn that you'd had at least several months of administrative experience, based on what I've seen. Weird. And then I saw in your talkpage archive that somebody had offered to nom you, too. JamieS93 20:13, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
Hm, that's really weird. I've never been an administrator. I'm fairly experienced in deletion because I've had tons of experience in being a bad CSD'er (see here); then transforming into a more moderate one, and finally being a rescuer of deleted articles, as well as articles that are in danger of deletion. BTW, is it all right if I keep a watch on the discussions that enfold on your talk page? Cunard (talk) 20:36, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
Interesting. IDK why I was so convinced you had the tools. Also, perhaps the manner in which you asked the questions at my RFA 2. :-) That's just fine if you watch discussions on this page – you're not the only one, hence the stalker template above, and some are probably reading this very thread. :P JamieS93 21:00, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
My apologies if I were being too blunt and overbearing at your 2nd RfA. I just wanted to make sure you that you knew the CSD criteria well. Well, I guess I'm going to join the others in stalking your talk page. Cheers, Cunard (talk) 21:07, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
No, you were fine. The questions were interesting and actually fun to answer, after I gave them some thought. Best, JamieS93 21:11, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

List of rivers of Brazil

Hey there. List of rivers of Brazil was speedily deleted because of a "lack of meaningful content". Such a page can have meaningful content as do other related articles. Surely the article should have been expanded instead of deleted? -- Alan Liefting (talk) - 19:38, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Articles must meet minimum requirements, and given that this particular page hadn't been worked on for several months, I think deletion was appropriate. –Juliancolton | Talk 19:52, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Yes. The article was speedy tagged, and I deleted the page because it was created a while ago and never got expanded. If somebody had tagged the page within, say, 10 minutes of creation, I would have contacted the author (you) and asked if you planned to work on the article—and possibly decline the speedy tag temporarily. You're welcome to recreate the article with some list content, or start it in the user space (tagging the page with {{under construction}} would be helpful). Also, I can restore and userfy the deleted page if you'd like to work with your original layout. Best, JamieS93 20:51, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Can you userfy it for me? I will do some more work on it. -- Alan Liefting (talk) - 21:07, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Done, now located at User:Alan Liefting/List of rivers of Brazil. :-) Cheers, JamieS93 21:10, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Eecchh!!! Did I leave such a poor stub? I can see why it was speedied! -- Alan Liefting (talk) - 21:28, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Haha, it's okay. That was from January, and I bet you were a different editor. :-) JamieS93 21:31, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for removing the speedy deletion tags on those pages, I think I've expanded them enough to meet the standards now.--Reahad (talk) 21:38, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Tom E. Locke [moved from userpage]

You deleted an article on May 25 without informing the author. Can you send me the Tom E. Locke article? Aren't you supposed to inform the author before deleting a story?Billy Hathorn (talk) 13:07, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

The person who tags an article for AfD is responsible for telling the author through the {{AFDNote}} template. It was nominated for deletion on May 18 (discussion), and apparently you weren't notified. I simply closed the discussion as "delete" after the week-long period, and it's usually not the admin's duty to notify the author. I've userfied the article, and it's now located here.
