GA nominations
[edit]If you are retiring, could you please remove your two nominations at WP:GAN#ROYAL or find someone willing to take charge in your place so that reviewers don't spend time reviewing an article that is unlikely to be picked up by someone else? Cheers, Nev1 (talk) 01:23, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

They've sorta fallen out. According to Kim, Nicole wants her and Melody sacked because they stood up to her. Kim, Melody, Jess and Ashley have thought about leaving the group and forming and rival band. I support them in doing this because Nicole will just carry on stepping all over them, thank God Lewis Hamilton ended it with her! There are more details on mu talk page supplied by lilunique--David (talk) 16:31, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
Need Some Help!
[edit]Hi Jack, i'm Nirvaan from India. I was the one who created Violante Beatrix of Bavaria, the article which you so beautifully edited. I'm grateful. If you don't mind, i'd like you to help me with one other article:
- Descendants of Phillipe I of France, Duke of Orleans - this article is my pride...:) so are others, but this is one article i enjoyed making. I have detailed the descendants from his first wife, Henrietta Anne Stuart, but i'm not getting time to add the descendants of his second wife.... I would really be glad if you finished a bit of it for me...
Thanking you, and hoping for a lasting collaboration with you here on Wikipedia.
-Nirvaan (talk) 4:24, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
- Oh, Nirvaan that sounds like a good article. I've always been interested in Henrietta Anne's descendants seeing as they, according to primogeniture, came before the descendants of Elizabeth of Bohemia in the English line of succession.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 13:17, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks Jeanne! and you know whats more interesting, is that the Jacobites have used her descendants as rival claimants to the British throne, when actually, descendants of The Young pretender have been discovered. This Polish Artist, Peter Pininski claims to be Bonnie Prince Charlie's direct descendant, and his evidence is very convincing, as he didn't claim any throne or claim any ancestry, he just bumped into Bonnie Prince Charlie in his Family tree.... Must be thrilling to be descended from such a romantic figure! And as for Henrietta's descendants, they range from the obscure - like Max, Prince of Bavaria - to the famous - Juan Carlos of Spain! Genealogy of royal families often throws many surprises at you!
- Yes, like actress Brooke Shields is a descendant of both Lucrezia Borgia and Catherine de Medici!!!!--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 17:36, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

- Oh by the way, Brooke Shields is also a descendant of Pope Julius II, I found out a week back!! She descends from his daughter, Felice della Rovere. Oh and i also found out that Celine Dion and Ivan the terrible are related! crazy huh!
And since you are so interested in the Stuarts, i'd like you to see some sites regarding them. The first one is ridiculous, and by far the worst conspiracy theory i've read till date! But it's worth a see.....the second one is more interesting as it claims that the current Jacobite Claimant to the British throne is Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II herself! the third one is about Peter Pininski and his descent from Bonnie Prince Charlie.....

- Yes just Liselotte's descendants. Also if you could stress on the genealogy of both his wives and how they were related {ironically they were..:)}. Do it in the format that i've used for Henrietta Anne's descent. Thanks again!

Comment
[edit]Jack, I have commented on the Anna Maria Luisa de Medici FAC page. It's clearly a case of communication breakdown on the part of the reviewers.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 15:56, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
- I really don't understand why Brian didn't air these issues in the first review! Besides, Oxford A-Z of Grammar and Punctuation proves him stone-cold wrong. It's all very confusing: too flord, not florid enough. He claims to be a magazine editor on his talk page. TBH, I'd rather preserve my version of the artilce, not tailor it to the reviewers' caprices. -- Jack1755 (talk) 16:01, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
- As I said on the FAC page, it needs more reviewers who aren't bewildered by British English expressions and words such as "she fell pregnant", "scion", "bequeathed", etc.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 16:07, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
- Not to rain on your parade, Jeanne, but I think Brian is a British "college lecturer, bibliophile and occasional magazine editor." -- Jack1755 (talk) 16:12, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

- Have you seen Kim's new hair! She said the blonde bleach was irritating her scalp so she's gone for brunette. If Ashley, Melody or both leave I won't buy the new album, it'll be rubbush. What about Jedward's new single, my dad went mad today when we heard it on the radio most people from my area of the UK dislike them. Owl City to stay at the top! (at least until this Haiti charity single is out next week)--David (talk) 20:35, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
- Jedward don't have staying power. Will people buy an album full of corny cover-versions? No. Have you been watching "Got to Dance", David? -- Jack1755 (talk) 21:12, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
- No, its a cheap, nasty show. I could only watch it on the tv downstairs and my parents have custardy of that and they're not fussed about talent shows. Kim maybe doing X Factor, I think she should and give Cheryl Cole a run for her money. The Brits are on soon, I've been voting--David (talk) 16:06, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Dom Pedro II, Emperor of Brazil
[edit]Hello! I have been working for quite some time by now in Pedro II of Brazil article. I've divided it in several articles (I've just finished Early life of Pedro II of Brazil) that goes from his birth to the the period beyond his death. The problem is that I am only one and can't do everything by myself. I've been trying to write on articles related to the Empire of Brazil (Honório Carneiro Leão, Marquis of Paraná, Afonso, Prince Imperial of Brazil, Platine War, etc...) but I could use some help. There is no need at all to know anything about Brazilian history. Do you know could I get some? Thank you very much, --Lecen (talk) 13:48, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

King of Ireland?
[edit]Hiya Jack, I was just curious, since you're a monarchist, who would you have to be King of Ireland if you could choose? I read somewhere that De Valera offered to make the head of the O'Briens Prince-President but they turned him down. Although they're descended from Brian Boru, I think they're Anglicans and after they sided with the Parliamentarians during the Confederate Wars they shouldn't be allowed to ever be king. The O'Neills are probably the best bet historically and in terms of legitimacy. - Yorkshirian (talk) 07:22, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
- I believe the current head of the Kavanagh family is the rightful heir to the throne of Ireland. He descends in the male line from Dermot MacMurrough.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 07:26, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
- Yorkshirian, what does being Anglican or Catholic have to do with the line of succession? Remember it was the Roman Catholic pope who issued the Papal Bull in 1154 giving the English king the green light to invade Ireland, so as to bring the Celtic Church under the domination of the Roman. Besides, there are Anglican O'Neills as well, such as Northern Ireland's former PM, Terence O'Neill.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 12:52, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
- Well, I'm guessing the majority of the populance there would never be persuaded into accepting an Anglican monarch again, even on a purely aesthetic constitutional level (which naturally is much better than the republican system). Its bad enough that the Fenian Societies (initated by Protestant and Deist settlers at that) have brainwashed the general populance into believing that "monarchy = Brit thing = bad". The O'Neills as well as having several High Kings of Ireland, are probably the most high profile and "Irish" of the Gaelic royal houses (the O'Briens have pretty much assimilated into the English nobility). Hugh Ó Neill, 2nd Earl of Tyrone, Owen Roe O'Neill and Hugh Dubh O'Neill are well within nationalist historiography (OK I admit, I like the historical Habsburg connection too).
- Disagree regarding the "Celtic Church" though, no such thing ever existed outside of "Reformation" propaganda. The early Irish Christians certainly considered themselves Catholic and before the Normans even came there were Cistercians reforming the Church in Ireland. Take for instance Kilmihil—this was named so by Saint Senan in the 5th century, after he had visited Rome and learned about Pope Gelasius I' apparition of the Archangel Michael. - Yorkshirian (talk) 14:14, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
- Of course if we wished to be truly historically accurate, we would have to seek a pre-Christian monarch, preferably a Druid, seeing as Christianity is-and we may as well calmly face it-a Middle-Eastern import, albeit Judeo-Christianity has served as a defining point for the last 2,000 years of European civilisation.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 14:37, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
- Someday, Ireland will have a republican next-door, the United Republic of Great Britain and Norther Ireland. GoodDay (talk) 15:14, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
- I believe a united Ireland will occur well before that date.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 16:25, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
- I'd be all in favour of a United Commonwealth of Great Britain and Ireland, with a Lord Protector as Head of State. Hey, Jeanne, is there a living descendant of the great Oliver Cromwell who might fit the bill?. Irvine22 (talk) 21:28, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

- Paisley? Haha. In all seriousness, it seems likely that the Jacobins were directly inspired by Satan to create the modern republican system. Canada has a far more honourable founding than the US, GoodDay, be proud of it! One founded by men strongly attached to their roots across the water, their monarch and their high culture. The other by a group of masonic rebels!
- The Venetian Republic with a Doge had its moments I suppose... aside from that Savonarola's Florence, a theocracy, seems to be the only respectable, dignified, masculine example. Where is Jack by the way? We have stolen his page. - Yorkshirian (talk) 01:02, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
- I believe our Jack is on holiday. I'm sure there are plenty of Cromwell descendants lurking about. However, one can never tell if they have inherited the repressive tyranny of Old Ironsides or the incompetence of Tumbledown Dick (There's something Freudian behind that nickname, surely). Yorkshirian, I'm sure that you'll appreciate the sublime irony in the fact that I, an American descendant of a long line (maternal only) of Freemasons and soldiers of the revolution (US), am a staunch monarchist; while GoodDay, a Canadian, is an outspoken and confirmed republican. Now what do you say about that?--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 07:22, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

Welcome Back!
[edit]Hello Jack, I hear you've been to Florence, how was it? Did you visit some Medici sites? Sorry, that was a stupid question since nearly all of Florence is Medici. I guess you missed the Brit awards, very odd this year and a bit boring. Pixie Lott won nothing (shame) Lady Gaga won all three of the awards she was nominated for, she started crying when she won the last one she could hardly speak she was "Speechless". Anyway, welcome back--David (talk) 18:51, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
- Jack, did you happen to watch the Sanremo Music Festival on Rai Uno last night? My favourite won, which he deserved. Did you hear all the people hissing and catcalling at Prince Emanuele Filiberto? I personally like him.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 07:48, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

- Has Kim left PCD? It wasn't on digital spy but one of those editors who only make about three edits a year to celebrity articles has said she's left. I undid it because the source they used was off that horrid Perez Hilton's website. It's just been done back. But if something isn't mentioned on digital spy then it's usually never happened. - Sorry about all this but only Nicole and Melody left now! Ashley announced her departure yesterday, they may as well split to be honest because it'll never be the same--David (talk) 10:25, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
- OMG! Really? -- Jack1755 (talk) 13:56, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, to be honest I think Melody's left as well because in an interview last week she refused to say whether she was still a member. I've heard that Melody, Kim, Ashley and Jessica are going to form a rival band, it seems Kim has her heart set on it. I wish them luck but this is becoming even more ridiculous than the Sugababes constant changing line-up--David (talk) 19:33, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

My work on Margaret of Anjou is being trashed on Facebook
[edit]What cheek! I just joined the Margaret of Anjou fan club on Facebook, and guess what they were discussing?! The edits made to her Wikipedia article that were done by me!!!! I replied by saying that the source I used is regarded as being highly scholarly and if they themselves possess equally scholarly sources which contradict my edits, why don't they go onto Wikipedia and fix the errors instead of trashing other people's hard, diligent work such as my own in trying to provide a factually correct and neutral article, not a fan piece.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 14:52, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
Duchess of Normandy
[edit]Hello Jack! I removed the succession box for several reasons. First, succession boxes for wives of peers are generally unused now. Furthermore, James held two titles called 'Duke of Normandy': the one granted by Louis XIV in 1660 and the one inherited from his brother. Thus, Mary held two titles called 'Duchess of Normandy'. Since neither of those titles is significant and mentioning only one of them is confusing, I thought that removing the reference to one of them wouldn't hurt. If you consider it important, revert it. Anyway, great job expanding the article! Surtsicna (talk) 22:57, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
- Hey, Surtsicna. I know James held the title as the heir of William the Conqueror, but I felt, initially, that Louis XIV's official grant should be included; anyway, seeing as the trend is to discard such boxes, there's no need to revert the edit. Thanks! BTW, how are you? -- Jack1755 (talk) 23:00, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
- Well, my birthday is today (tomorrow in your timezone) so I feel awful. My birthday is the worst day in the year to me :( I'm always nervous around my birthday so I end up buying many presents to myself :D What about you? Surtsicna (talk) 23:07, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

- Cool! It's a shame you don't have free time, Surtsicna; that's wikipedia's loss! I used to study Latin...and I gave up after a year. LOL. It just wasn't for me. Any big news with you, besides your birthday of course, Surtsicna? Are you going to have a party?? -- Jack1755 (talk) 23:51, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
- I've got enough time to improve some articles. I'll try to look around for some information about Mary of Modena. You shouldn't have given up Latin. It's really time consuming but being able to read and write in Latin is cool. Anyway, no party here; throwing a party makes me so anxious that it ruins the birthday completely. I'll spend it like any other day. If I recall correctly, your birthday is in Autumn? November perhaps? :) Surtsicna (talk) 13:53, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

Have I got an article for you!
[edit]Jack, when you have finished Mary of Modena, how about taking on a real gem-Catherine de Medici!!!!! Her article, as it currently stands is good, but it needs expanding with a section dealing with her patronage of Nostrodamus and astrology, as well as her group of female spies, the "Flying Squadron". I can help you edit as I've a good bio on Catherine. What do you say, Jack? Oh, BTW, thanks for pasting the barnstar on my user page.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 11:25, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

Right There
[edit]Per WP:NSONG, Singles are notable if they have charted. Because the song in question has not even been released yet, it doesn't qualify for the Notability guidelines. Please leave it as a redirect till the song is published, it charts, and we get more than "It's coming soon" coverage. Hasteur (talk) 18:39, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
- Um, it satisfies Wikipedia:Notability. The song has received 1) 'significant coverage' (http://www.google.ie/search?rlz=1C1SVED_enIE400IE400&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=Nicole+Scherzinger+Right+There#q=Nicole+Scherzinger+Right+There&hl=en&safe=off&rlz=1C1SVED_enIE400IE400&prmd=ivnsuo&source=univ&tbm=nws&tbo=u&sa=X&ei=0-_CTZ3aNYaEhQedk4C7BQ&ved=0CCcQqAI&fp=e2269b0ac9403bdc&biw=1366&bih=624), is 2) 'reliable', has sound secondary sources, and nothing is presumed.
- All articles on albums, singles or songs must meet the basic criteria at the notability guidelines, with significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. I think this is satisfied, don't you?
- "Significant coverage" means that sources address the subject directly in detail, so no original research is needed to extract the content. Significant coverage is more than a trivial mention but it need not be the main topic of the source material.[1]
- "Reliable" means sources need editorial integrity to allow verifiable evaluation of notability, per the reliable source guideline. Sources may encompass published works in all forms and media, and in any language. Availability of secondary sources covering the subject is a good test for notability.
- "Sources",[2] for notability purposes, should be secondary sources, as those provide the most objective evidence of notability. The number and nature of reliable sources needed varies depending on the depth of coverage and quality of the sources. Multiple sources are generally expected.[3] Multiple publications from the same author or organization are usually regarded as a single source for the purposes of establishing notability.
- "Independent of the subject" excludes works produced by those affiliated with the subject including (but not limited to): self-publicity, advertising, self-published material by the subject, autobiographies, press releases, etc.[4]
- "Presumed" means that significant coverage in reliable sources establishes a presumption, not a guarantee, that a subject is suitable for inclusion. Editors may reach a consensus that although a topic meets this criterion, it is not appropriate for a stand-alone article. For example, such an article may violate what Wikipedia is not.
-- Jack1755 (talk) 18:49, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
I disagree. WP:GHITS doesn't justify notability. All the hits on that google link are "It's a new single", "Look here for lyrics", "50 Cent worked with her" type coverage. No substantial coverage regarding the song. In addition several of the claimed usages are not Wikipedia level reliable sources. These include the fansites, blogs, and etc. I again reiterate WP:NSONG
- Most songs do not rise to notability for an independent article and should redirect to another relevant article, such as for the songwriter, a prominent album or for the artist who prominently performed the song. Songs that have been ranked on national or significant music charts, that have won significant awards or honors or that have been independently released as a recording by several notable artists, bands or groups are probably notable. Notability aside, a separate article on a song is only appropriate when there is enough verifiable material to warrant a reasonably detailed article; articles unlikely ever to grow beyond stubs should be merged to articles about an artist or album.
It would not hurt the article to wait until it had charted and waited past the flurry of "New Music Video" coverage has passed to re-evaluate the single's notability. Hasteur (talk) 18:59, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Nomination of Dorothea von Velen for deletion
[edit]A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Dorothea von Velen is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dorothea von Velen until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. I know you haven't edited Wikipedia since 2014, but if you do see this, we need some evidence this isn't a hoax. Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Electresses Palatine
[edit]A tag has been placed on Category:Electresses Palatine indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz Read!
