A welcome from Sango123

Hello, Hydkat/Archive 1, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions; I hope you like the place and decide to stay. We're glad to have you in our community! Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Though we all make goofy mistakes, here is what Wikipedia is not. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to see the help pages or add a question to the village pump. The Community Portal can also be very useful.

Happy editing!

P.S. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you need help with anything or simply wish to say hello. :)

Hierarchy

Here's an excerpt from the article Wikipedia (with added links) that might help answer your question about the "hierarchy":

Maintenance tasks are performed by a group of volunteer developers, stewards, bureaucrats, and administrators, which number in the hundreds. Administrators are the largest such group, privileged with the ability to prevent articles from being edited, delete articles, or block users from editing in accordance with community policy. Many users have been temporarily or permanently blocked from editing Wikipedia. Vandalism or the minor infraction of policies may result in a warning or temporary block, while long-term or permanent blocks for prolonged and serious infractions are given by Jimmy Wales or, on its English edition, an elected Arbitration Committee.

Wikipedia:User access levels might also be helpful. Regards, Sango123 (talk) 21:44, 22 October 2005 (UTC)

Hyderabad

Hi, Well THE ICOW did not turn out as good as expected, but, yes, some things did improve. I would continue to work on it, as probably that is the city, I know few things about apart from Mumbai. :)

There are two things that are troubling. 1. Telugu Nationalism. 2. People are trying to distort History. I am not a muslim, but to say that only Muslim speak Deccani in Hyderabad is like saying that Gandhi spoke only Gujarati, and Nehru only Kashmiri. Chirags 17:34, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

Well, I also claim to be a Hyderabadi (spent 5 years there), I speak Hindi, Few Urdu words (not Hyderabadi), a bit of Deccani, and a bit of Telugu (simple stuffs). Chirags 20:35, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Reverted your entry on List of sexual slurs

Hi, just wanted you to know I removed your entry on "Beating the Bishop" because it doesn't fit the category. It's sexual slang, but not a slur (please see talk page where we've been discussing the distinction). Anyway, we are attempting to overhaul this page (which had gotten seriously out of control) and trying to limit the terms to major slurs in common usage, and each term must have a reference. Just wanted to let you know. StrangeAttractor 16:09, 21 January 2006

(UTC)about beating the bishop

I hope you didn't just delete the entry... that you saved it somewhere first... like in its previous entry?
Anyway I really put it there just to practice merging articles. Sorry.
hydkat 05:41, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
Hi Hydkat,
Actually I reverted it but you can find the earlier version by looking at the history list of the article and finding your entry (please don't revert the article back to this version, though -- that will happen if you edit and save while looking at the older version). If you wanted to save the text you wrote, you can bring up the old version, cut-n-paste and copy it into a Word doc for safekeeping or whatever. This is true of all Wikipedia pages -- there's a running history of the versions. StrangeAttractor 04:03, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Please feel to revert my foundation year change on the infobox. Please change all ocurrances in the ariticle too. Probably infobox should say "Incorporated". In that case, 1981 will do. - Ganeshk (talk) 17:57, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

  • I agree that a simple description of each car can be added to the main page.
  • Article lacks pictures.
  • Can add a Global Markets section. Their vehicles sell in european markets.

More points:

  • Can add a General Corporate Timeline from [1]
  • Can add See also section.

Harry Potter: Book Seven (film) AFD

It's only linked from many other articles because it is linked to the {{Harrypotter}} template. Once the link is removed from that, it won't be linked to nearly as many articles. There will come a time for this article to come about: just not now. --Deathphoenix 05:34, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Good work!!

Hi Hydkat, good work on INCOTW. Unfortunately, I'm hard-pressed for time, but I feel lot of work has already been done by you, Arvind Parvatikar and Ganeshk. Keep up the good work!! --Gurubrahma 13:40, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Your claim to uniqueness

Hi. I am here to dispute your claim to uniqueness. ;) -- Sundar \talk \contribs 08:39, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, Hydkat/Archive 1, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. Redwolf24 runs the spam to keep members up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of FireFox, Flcelloguy, Titoxd, and Karmafist. The next set of elections will be in February, and I would be glad to see you vote, or even consider running for a position.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Celestianpower by email or talk page or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Cheers, Sango123 (e) 20:48, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

No, I welcome everyone manually. Getting two "welcome" messages from me was just coincidental. :) Regards, Sango123 (e) 21:05, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

changed metropolitan to major in Hyderabad

Hello Hydkat! Thanks for the notice on my userpage. However as far as I know, Hyderabad is not officially a metropolitan city (Please correct me if I'm wrong). True - it is one of the biggest cities in India. But since this is an encyclopedia, I don't think it appropriate to include it as a metropolitan city when it is not actually one. Also, there are other cities that call themselves metros in India. But they are not officially recognised. thunderboltz 02:59, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

The points you raise are not really valid. Chiefly because there are a number of cities in India that come under those 4 conditions. Lets take an example, say, Kochi:
  • It is the biggest city in Kerala
  • It two IT parks (with companies from Infosys, Wipro to US technology), is India's biggest shipyard, has two airports (one among them India's only private-public airport) and also the head quarters of the southern navel command. Why, even a metro rail is being planned here. So its a big centre of activity.
  • Kochi is the seat of a Cardinal and a Bishop.
  • Kochi was a major portuguese and Jewish colony earlier.
  • There is no dearth of people calling Cochin/Kochi a metro.
All the points are met. But is Kochi a metro? I don't think you will agree.
Likewise, a lot of other smaller cities will fit into the scale. So, my opinion is that unless there is a official declaration of Hyderabad as a metro, it shouldn't be regarded as one.
However, if somebody else also thinks that hyderabad should be included in the list of metros, then I dont mind. thunderboltz 09:15, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
Then the problem is that its not just Kochi and Hyderabad that will qualify. Cities like Pune, Ahemedabad, Thiruvanantupuram, and many more will qualify under this. Since this is an encyclopedia, I doubt if it is ethical to add all these cities to the metro list in an encyclopedia, especially considering that these are nowhere near international metro standards. They are large mainly considering their population only.
Just my thoughts. But if you feel Hyderabad is fit to be called a metro, then go ahead and add it. :) thunderboltz 10:59, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
I usually dont give up so easily. ;) I still think that it should not be included, as it is not official. I only decided to give away because its the next biggest city in India after the metros, and will sonner or later qualify as one. But I really think we should seek the opinion an administrator in this matter. thunderboltz 11:11, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

Thank you!

That was an excellent poem. Who needs rhymes, when you have inspirational words like that :) Nach0king 09:52, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
