Belated Happy New Year with a Toast!

[edit]

Here's a toast to the host
Of those who edit wiki near and far,
To a friend we send a message, "keep the data up to par".
We drink to those who wrote a lot of prose,
And then they whacked a vandal several dozen blows.
A toast to the host of those who boast, the Wikipedians!

I found out that 125.198.46.132 did the vandalism on the album article. If I would have known about it, I would have fixed it. Thanks for the fix in the article. Stco23 (talk) 00:34, 26 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Instant-runoff voting

[edit]

I see that you're a Bernie supporter, which indicates to me that you would support fair voting reform. The Wikipage: Instant-runoff voting.

For the group fighting for it, check out: http://www.FairVote.org.

To see why it's necessary, check out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqblOq8BmgM.

It's supported by the Green Party: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eb7MQ7da6sg.

Hi HapHaxion, thanks for adding the correct template to the Platyrhynchus disambiguation page. The genera listed were both synonyms for the same genus name. However, when the term is used as a species or subspecies epithet (lower case) , it is never used by itself but only as part of the full binomial or trinomial term (such as Rangifer tarandus platyrhynchus or Catostomus platyrhynchus. Further, some epithets (eg. alba or occidentalis) may be used by hundreds of species and it is incorrect to refer to the organism solely by that term. Todd Donoho

[edit]

Hi there!

I was asked by Todd's wife to remove the page because there was too much personal information about Todd, as well as his family. If you would prefer, instead of removing the entire page, I can ask her what information she deems too personal, and would like removed. Eamkr8 (talk) 05:04, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

That would be better. Just remember to state what material you are removing and why in your edit summary and make sure you have proof of your claim that someone related to the person wants material removed. HapHaxion (talk) 05:08, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi HapHaxion. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Mifter (talk) 01:39, 10 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sphering is a technical term. See, Kessy, Agnan, Alex Lewin, and Korbinian Strimmer. "Optimal whitening and decorrelation." arXiv preprint arXiv:1512.00809 (2015): "Whitening, or sphering, is a linear transformation that converts a d-dimensional random vector…" -MisterSheik, 07:46, 18 March 2017‎

An article already exists for this. However, I have submitted a disambiguation page for review to avoid any other confusion. HapHaxion (talk) 16:02, 18 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Sphering (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates two or fewer extant Wikipedia pages and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or
  • disambiguates no (zero) extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. — Godsy (TALKCONT) 10:26, 27 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

PROD

[edit]

Hi, you recently PRODed Shyamgarh saying that the article had issues with things like focus and neutrality, but you didn't argue the notability of the subject. Do you believe the topic to be non-notable? If you do, please explain why and add the reasons to your PROD rationale. Thank you. Linguisttalk|contribs 16:04, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Response

[edit]

According to WP:GEOLAND, every populated place is considered notable, but based on what I have seen, the unsourced claims made in the article can't be backed up by searches that I've done. It would be impossible to remove the unsourced content/claims because that is all the article currently contains, and would result in either an empty article or an article with very little information in it. Tips on reverting vandalism

[edit]

Hey HapHaxion -- although I tried to read the pages on the protocol for undoing vandalism, I don't think I got the process right on the Tomi Lahren move. Someone changed the name of the page and I moved it back to the original name and then deleted the link from the new name. Is there a better way? Thanks for any advice. Cloud atlas (talk) 13:48, 13 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think you did the right thing. The move was obviously an act of vandalism, so you just reverted the move steps manually. HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 13:52, 13 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Wakelamp: In order for a page to remain in mainspace, it should have more content in it first, along with references. Try writing a draft first then posting it after, or try submitting it through Articles for Creation (AfC). HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 05:54, 10 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ashraf Abdelwahab Article

[edit]

Hi HapHaxion! You have added a notification box to the Ashraf Abdelwahab article to encourage adding more citations and for performing some grammar checks. Since September 2017, many citations were added for verification. I would say the article is almost perfect grammatically. Should I remove that box now or would you prefer to remove it or do you have other concerns? Thanks! Cecs2010 (talk) 18:32, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the template asking for more references, but will leave the copy edit one up for now since I still saw a few errors. May edit it later if I have the time. HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 18:55, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You tagged the article as needing copyediting. I presumed this was regarding the Lead, which had some word/phrases redundantly in the same sentence. I was wondering if you felt this was fixed now or if there were other issues. CorporateM (Talk) 04:10, 28 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@CorporateM: Intro looks good. A few grammatical errors are present in the History section, and in my opinion a better tie-in to AVG or clarification at the bottom of the Products section would improve the article as well. Thanks for your attention :) HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 04:51, 28 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
How's that? I wasn't sure what you meant RE AVG though. PS - I have a conflict of interest, but figured copyedits should be fairly non-controversial here. CorporateM (Talk) 13:34, 28 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Necker Island

[edit]

I noticed you added a citation to the price Richard Branson paid to purchase Necker Island. Thank you for finding a reference. The price had been listed as $180,000 for quite a long time, and someone using an IP changed it to $120,000 without a citation a couple months ago. Given that that was the only edit that had ever been made by that IP address, there was no citation given, and there was no edit summary, and because the article John Lyttelton, 11th Viscount Cobham also listed the price as $180k, I reverted it as probable vandalism, but I suppose it was likely not. That is the reason why I added the "citation needed" tag. The source you gave was a video, and I don't have time to watch the whole video to try to find the specific mention of this, but I assume you know what is in the video. I looked for a source for the price at the time, but was unable to find one. If you are sure about this, then you might want to change the price on the article John Lyttelton, 11th Viscount Cobham and give it the citation as well.

Also, if you could, would you mind to add to the reference the approximate time in the video that the price is mentioned? See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Videos_as_references "You may also want to note the time (roughly what time, if accessible, a scene occurs within a production - useful for citing specific scenes, quotations or data)"

Hi

Do you have source with full results? --Panam2014 (talk) 00:22, 7 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Panam2014: Unfortunately I don't, as I believe counting is still in progress. The only kind that would be out at the moment would be preliminary results, but from what I have seen the number of seats won by each party is not consistent. I say wait a day or two until more consistent findings are published. HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 00:26, 7 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Could you give me the sources please? --Panam2014 (talk) 00:28, 7 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Panam2014: Sure. The most comprehensive I found is here, but it doesn't seem to match up with the seat count from other sources such as this one and this one (for example, the first source stated the MDP won 67 seats, but the following two stated they only won 59, hence why I said I would rather wait a few days for consistency). HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 00:34, 7 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

What is the difference with [1]? --Panam2014 (talk) 22:14, 7 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This kinda highlights the inconsistent reporting. This one says the MDP won 65 seats. I say to wait until the Electoral Commission has released the results within the next 24 hours. HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 22:24, 7 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Now the two source put the same results. But about MRM why it is considered as a party only for 1 source? --Panam2014 (talk) 11:07, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, so from my understanding, the one candidate that won was only supported by the MRM; he was not a member of the party itself, so he should be listed as an independent. HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 16:39, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
And for percentage? --Panam2014 (talk) 20:09, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi HapHaxion.  I wanted to let you know that political endorsements must meet all three of these criteria:

  1. The endorser must have an article or be unquestionably entitled to one
  2. This endorsement must be covered by reliable and independent sources
  3. Coverage of the endorsement needs to use the word endorse, or other closely related synonym.

This is covered by the consensus at WP:ERFC.

For that reason, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, poker websites, and blogs are not acceptable sources. Also, donating to a campaign or showing up to a campaign rally are not endorsements. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you - MrX 🖋 20:21, 9 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Mansfield Independent Forum logo.svg

Thank you for uploading File:Mansfield Independent Forum logo.svg. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. [edit]

Hi! You replaced the contents of File:Labour Party (UK) logo.svg with a new image with a smaller filesize. Unfortunately, that new, smaller image appears to be a clean, high fidelity version of the Labour Party logo. This is explicitly not what's wanted here; the munged image with lower fidelity (and a larger filesize) was created with the sole purpose of satisfying the criteria for fair use of this copyrighted logo: see WP:FAIRUSE for more information on this. -- The Anome (talk) 07:26, 25 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@The Anome: I was a bit confused because I double checked that page and all I was able to find was the resolution requirement (<100,000 pixels), and even the non-free reduce template only mentions a requirement regarding resolution (or rendered size for SVG files: "The SVG can be configured [to be] a smaller size by changing the nominal size data using an appropriate vector editing program such as Inkscape"), not necessarily the fidelity of the image, as that would only come into effect when the number of vectors is too high, although I do not know what exactly would satisfy that criteria. HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 00:14, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@The Anome: Is there a clarification about this I should know for future reference? HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 23:02, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Mohrenstraße

[edit]

Hello, just an FYI for the future, the edit history of a page follows the page when you move it, but since the old Mohrenstraße page has been created as a redirect, you can't move the page back over the redirect. However, the edit history is still stuck on the Anton-Wilhelm-Amo-Straße page. For the future, the correct course of action is to request deletion of the newly created "Mohrenstraße" redirect page so you can move the page a second time to an empty target. See WP:MOR. I've made a quick requested technical move at WP:RMT to smooth out the wrinkles, so no harm done. Thanks.-Ich (talk) 21:33, 21 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Ich: Sorry about that; my bad! I'll be sure to keep that information in mind should this occur in the future. HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 23:54, 21 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Bolivian elections image

[edit]

Hi, the new layout of the seats looks better, but the colours for CC and Creemos are very close and quite hard to distinguish.. Is it possible to make an adjustment for clarity? Let me know your thoughts, thanks! Crmoorhead (talk) 21:17, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I double checked the colours from my end and they do not appear to be hard to distinguish at all; one is pink and the other is orange. Same goes for the maps in the infobox. HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 21:20, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Szczeszek2035: As long as you reupload it on plwiki locally (and not on Commons, since I'm unsure of if it's copryighted in Poland), then sure. HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 01:03, 13 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Logos of political parties in Poland

[edit]

logos of political parties in Poland are considered public information, are you sure about this?Jonteemil (talk) 20:30, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Jonteemil: per the court case cited, it appears so. Further investigation can be done if necessary. HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 00:21, 22 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, Foundation for European Progressive Studies, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. --- Possibly 03:46, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. This had four references, three of which were by the article subject. It also had 60 links to external sites!! Are you unaware that so many external links in the body of an article is not OK? Just curious. --- Possibly 03:48, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Possibly: I copied the article formatting from the article on another political foundation at the European level, the Martens Centre, which has been present in mainspace since 2012. Assuming what you said is correct, then that article likely should be moved back to the Draft space as well, in addition to the articles on several of the other foundations, in which a majority of their references are just links to member foundations. Hello! I've seen, that you renamed the Aliancia - Szövetség page, to Alliance (Slovak political party). Why you renamed it ? It was a good name, that i renamed it, to Aliancia - Szövetség. Icelandic electoral system

[edit]

Thanks for adding these sections. However, one thing I was left asking was how the seats were divided into upper and lower houses. The source used doesn't seem to say. Any ideas? Cheers, Number 57 18:49, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Number 57: It appears that the Upper House wasn't technically elected in the traditional sense. All members were first elected as members of the Lower House, and would then choose amongst themselves one-third of the elected members, and those chosen were elevated to the Upper House. Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Hi HapHaxion,

I saw your work on articles related to anarchism and wanted to say hello, as I work in the topic area too. If you haven't already, you might want to watch our noticeboard for Wikipedia's coverage of anarchism, which is a great place to ask questions, collaborate, discuss style/structure precedent, and stay informed about content related to anarchism. Take a look for yourself!

And if you're looking for other juicy places to edit, consider expanding a stub, adopting a cleanup category, or participating in one of our current formal discussions.

Feel free to say hi on my talk page and let me know if these links were helpful (or at least interesting). Hope to see you around. czar 01:44, 8 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved, as you did to Financial Technologies Group, without good reason. They should have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. Wikipedia has some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. If you would like to experiment with page titles and moving, please use the test Wikipedia. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. RPSkokie (talk) 03:09, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Query about notifications

[edit]

Hello HapHaxion, per your recent edit at Template talk:Linktext, I was curious if the notification feature works differently at EN Wikt and EN Wikipedia? Per Help:Notifications, so long as an editor includes a link like [[User:Username]] and signs using ~~~~, a notification should be generated to that linked user. Username links could be created by multiple means, including {{User}} or {{Ping}}, but any such approach should work. This is the way this feature functions at EN Wikt, where I spend most of my wiki time.

Does this feature work differently here? ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 22:17, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

User pages

[edit]

Hello, HapHaxion,

With all of these User pages that you are tagging for deletion, are you checking that they are all appropriate? How do you find the ones you are tagging? I'm glad to see that you are posting notifications on the editor's talk page, that's a very important step that is sometimes overlooked, I'm just curious about the speed of your tagging, you seem to be finding so many tag-able pages so quickly I'm wondering how you come across some that are years old among the millions of User pages. Thanks for your contributions! Liz Read! Talk! 20:28, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz: Believe it or not I've had a bit of downtime recently and figured I'd do it the old fashioned way-- using the search bar. I just queried terms commonly used in a promotional manner that are located in userspace and usernames. That includes things like "solutions", "follow us", "partners", "award-winning", business legal forms and abbreviations (LLC, LLP, LP, LTD, PTY, etc), etc. I then double check edit history and the page content to see if it would likely meet the criteria for deletion. Hello, HapHaxion,

I'm not sure why you would move a long-standing article to a different, unusable page title and then blank it and tag it for deletion and create a less useful article at the old page title. If this event has changed its name, move the page to the new title, we shouldn't delete it and its page history unless there are serious problems like copyright violations. Liz Read! Talk! 20:28, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz: my apologies. I accidentally transposed the new page name and reason fields when attempting to use the move function. The name I had intended to move it to is also a redirect. HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 20:30, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

COI template message at XLfit

[edit]

Hello! On the XLfit page, I noticed that back in March you placed a Conflict of Interest template warning, indicating an issue with the motive of editors of the article. I was just wondering who you were referring to--an editor in particular, or were you referencing a broader group of editors? Thank you. Adam8410 (talk) 13:25, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I was mainly referring to a broader group. Most of the editors with a perceived conflict of interest can be seen in the page's edit history either having their edits reverted due to promotional content, or (in the case of the page creator) admitting that they were employed by the software's developer. KC Flag

[edit]

Hey! I noticed that the new svg version of the KC Flag was a bit off from the actual flag, it was thinner and smaller, and the points drop below the red bar into the blue, and should be even. So I uploaded a fixed version. I didn't realize that I guess you can upload to the same file? At any rate... KC_Flag_2023.svg is what I updated it to. I'll try to upload it onto the one with different versions, then if that's successful, i can delete 'KC_Flag_2023.svg' Thanks! Moonraker0022 (talk) 02:29, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Moonraker0022: Hi there! I attempted to match the size of the emblem (and flag, overall) to what has been codified in the city ordinances (see my request at the Illustration workshop). I'd been meaning to get someone to revectorize the symbol based on the geometric description in the same ordinance but have been unable to find anyone as of yet. HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 04:08, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! ha all the 'official' flag proportions just end up looking like rectangles to me, but I believe you sized it correctly... or at least we're on the right path and someone else can take it from here. Moonraker0022 (talk) 04:23, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fall of Singapore

[edit]

hello, I'm just coming back to the modification that you've made concerning the flags, it is an interesting subject, would you please tell me about this a little bit longer ? thanks. Hanafunda (talk) 15:47, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information can be found on the articles in question. During the battle, there were three different administrative divisions in British Melaya: the Straits Settlements, Federated Malay States, and Unfederated Malay States. As such, either they should all be listed, or only British Melaya should be listed. I believe on those articles there are also maps of what areas fell within which jurisdiction. The fact was ... that the government of Ethiopia's SNNP Region supported local governments calling for a referendum to secede from the region? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/2023 South Ethiopia Region referendum. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, 2023 South Ethiopia Region referendum), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Cleanup tag on article about Patrice Lumumba

[edit]

Hello! :) From what I can tell, you added a {{cleanup}} tag to the article about Patrice Lumumba, saying that it's due to an "inconsistent stated name at birth". I'd love to work a little on the cleanup of the article, but I'm afraid that I don't know what you meant by the comment—do you have any more details you could share? :) Thanks so much!! KluskaSlaska (talk) 19:10, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@KluskaSlaska: I was referring to the fact that in the introductory sentence, the infobox, and and the "Early life and career" section, two different birth names are used: Élias Okit'Asombo and Isaïe Tasumbu Tawosa. I'm not sure if only one of these are correct (and thus the other is an error) or both of them are (and there is no explanation as to why if that is the case). HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 19:16, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@HapHaxion:: Ah, thanks so much! Now I see it. I'm afraid that I know far too little about the topic to know how to reconcile this... Maybe one day I'll have more time for research :) Thanks for the quick reply! KluskaSlaska (talk) 19:23, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Image source problem with File:PostBank logo.svg

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:PostBank logo.svg.

This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F4 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:44, 6 September 2023 (UTC). If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Ирука13 21:44, 6 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Cowry Forces for an Emerging Benin logo.jpg.

While the image description page states the source and copyright status of the derivative work, it only names the creator of the original work without specifying the status of their copyright over the work.

Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the original image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. Thanks again for your cooperation. — Ирука13 13:20, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Problem in Renewal Front

[edit]

Hello, HapHaxion. The user 'Pedantic Aristotle' has put that the Renewal Front political party has a 'Peronist fascist' ideology. Absolutely none of the sources provided by this user mention that the Frente Renovador has a 'fascist Peronist' ideology.

I haven't reverted it because you reported me for an editing war on that article. I don't think I have committed an editorial war, my edits were not in bad faith, I only put references that indicated that the party is center-left or that it leans towards the center-left. You didn't agree with me and I respect that. But to be neutral, you or any other user must undo the edits of user 'Pedantic Aristotle', who assigned the political party a very severe ideology without any valid source to support it. ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:39, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Completionist

[edit]

Please do not add the Karl Jobst video as a source for The Completionist's page. Karl Jobst isn't an established journalist nor does he qualify as an established subject-matter expert per WP:SPS, and adding this information without a high-quality source is definitely a BLP issue. If you have proof that he absolutely does qualify, I suggest you bring it to WP:BLPN or WP:RSN to gain consensus first about using this source. This way, we can avoid any edit wars that may emerge. Orca ecotypes

[edit]

Regarding your August 21 Wikidata edits claiming that the southern resident orcas are an instance of an ecotype, I am not convinced by the terminology, though I am not very familiar with Wikidata. In any case, I thank you for your interest in the subject.

The situation in the field is that the ecotype is the “resident” (or fish-eating) orca. In the scientific literature, the southern resident orcas are referred to as one of several defined, closed communities (or populations) of the resident ecotype—never as an ecotype. Michael Bigg coined the term ‘southern resident’ to distinguish this community's territory from that of the ‘northern residents’. Extensive terminology and references can be found in en:Southern resident orcas#Society.

How this affects your edit, I don't know, and I leave the matter in your hands. Rebecca Beecham Gotzl (talk) 06:49, 4 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries

[edit]

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Kimen8 (talk) 15:21, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Dab talk pages

[edit]

Hallo, Please don't create disambiguation page talk pages like Talk:Rax (disambiguation) where there is no "talk" content. The disambiguation WikiProject knows about all disambiguation pages and doesn't need the banner to alert them, and creating the page just means that someone working on the dab page sees that there is a dab page and might feel they need to check it in case the discussion there is relevant to what they're doing, so creating the talk page is not only unnecessary but actually unhelpful.

See the template documentation at {{WikiProject Disambiguation}}, which explicitly says Please do not use this template solely to create talk pages that otherwise have no content. Thanks. PamD 08:45, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable non-free use File:Flag of Caracas (2022).svg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Flag of Caracas (2022).svg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

CSD U5s

[edit]

Hello, HapHaxion,

If you see a User page with content that is clearly an article draft, please move it to an editor's Sandbox or Draft space rather than tagging the page for speedy deletion. Many new editors are not aware of the guidelines about User pages and just work on articles there so let's not delete their hard work and just correct their mistake. CSD U5s is really to eliminate content that would be better on someone's blog like keeping track of someone's fantasy football league or a short story they wrote (yes, I've seen this) or useless details about their favorite TV series. But if someone is working on an article, best to just relocate it. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 22:36, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the "centre-left" you added in the lead, for it was not cited in sources that followed. Although apparent, it pretty looked much like WP:SYNTH per Wiki, so I removed it. I hope it doesn't cause any issue. Regards, ExclusiveEditor Notify Me! 17:40, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Saqib: They're files listing election results for multiple countries, which include those from Pakistan in 2002. It's the source currently listed for the results on the 2002 Pakistan general election page. HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 18:53, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Does the source say what you're claiming? If it does, you need to provide us with a link to that file. @SheriffIsInTown: --—Saqib (talk | contribs) 19:06, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Saqib: It can be downloaded as a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet here (warning, it's a large file-- here you want the one listing countries from K to Z). The other links on the page I linked earlier also include data which can be viewed in SPSS, R, and Stata. HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 19:13, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Shipping discourse

[edit]

Hi, HapHaxion! I noticed that in this edit, you removed all of the WP:REDLINKs I inserted in Shipping discourse. In some cases, you replaced the redlinks with a better bluelink, for which I am grateful. But in most cases there appears to be no replacement link. Do you mind elaborating on why you think that those redlinks were inappropriate? Thanks, Bernanke's Crossbow (talk) 18:47, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Per WP:REDYES, red links can be created for a non-existent article if it "would help a reader understand the content of the article in which the red link will appear. An easy example is a technical term that merits a treatment beyond its dictionary definition, to help support its role for its existing context," while per WP:REDNO, redlinks should not be created for "articles that are unlikely to be created and retained on Wikipedia, including articles that do not comply with Wikipedia's naming conventions." For most of the links, such as "The Internet and social groups" and "Reputational attack", etc they currently already exist in some form split between multiple articles, so the red links were not necessary as it is unlikely articles under those names would be created as the phrasing is rather broad. HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 18:59, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@HapHaxion: I see. I disagree about whether "currently [existing] in some form split between multiple articles" is a sign that they'll never be created (isn't that what WP:MERGEing is for?), but not to the point that I'd advocate reversion. Thanks for explaining your reasoning, Bernanke's Crossbow (talk) 03:05, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:FAW Group logo (2000).png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:FAW Group logo (2000).png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy.

If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What source do you need?? every national Nepalese websites and government websites are staying upon the fact that they are centrist! what source do you need??? or do you need the American western media source? or what?? Morgankarki (talk) 18:05, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Morgankarki: Just saying that there are sources is not sufficient. If they do exist, by all means add them to confirm. All I'm saying is that as it currently is, I have looked through them and the sources currently on the page do not support the ideologies listed. Also, the party's position is still listed as centrist, albeit with some factions within the party that appear to disagree according to the same source(s) that are currently on the page. I'd also urge you to assume good faith in this matter. HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 18:12, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hassaniya patronymics

[edit]

Hello,

I have noticed you have added the patronymic templates to several articles of Mauritanian politicians. However that's far from how the Hassaniya naming system works, as the patronymics are indeed the surnames.

For example, my name is Tidjani Ould Saleh (in the super shortened traditional form). Ould is the patronymic indicator, Saleh is both my surname and the name of an ancestor (the direct patronymic is usually ignored) and in formal occasions I should be referred as Ould Saleh, often shortened to just Saleh in Western contexts and for the sake or ordering surnames. Mauritanian IDs no longer include the "Ould/Mint" particles since 2014 and Sahrawi ones have ignored them altogether for as far as I can remember even if they're still of common use.

Please abstain from using that template since it's quite misleading and wouldn't exactly work with longer forms of the Hassaniya naming conventions, which is usually just a list of direct paternal ancestors until a common one (in my case my great-great-grandfather, for some it may be higher or lower degrees) or one considered relevant enough to highlight a family tie.

For example, Mohamed Ould Cheikh Mohamed Ahmed Ould Ghazouani.

Mohamed is his name; Cheikh Mohamed Ahmed (often shortened to just Cheikh) is his patronymic; and Ghazouani is his patronymic-based surname; with Ould (or Mint for women, both words meaning "son of" and "daughter of" respectively).

Hope that helps and thank you! Tidjani Saleh (talk) 23:46, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Republican Party

[edit]

Hey HapHaxion, just cluing you in to the more recent discussion on political position that have occurred since the outdated RfC you're citing: Talk:Republican Party (United States)/Archive 33#Political positions being reinstated once again

The page was archived in a haphazard manner, so its hard to find specific sections. But this is the most relevant. There's an agreement on this now and it also is the case under WP:EDITCON. Toa Nidhiki05 17:18, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable non-free use File:Montenegrin Olympic Committee logo.svg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Montenegrin Olympic Committee logo.svg.

  2. On the file's talk page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Cabildo Abierto logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:05, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Place of birth/death

[edit]

Just wondering, do you have a source saying that Victoria Roshchyna was born in Zaporizhzhia and died in Taganrog? So far, I've only been able to confirm that her hometown was Zaporizhia. (Which I know other Wikipedias have taken to mean "was born there", but I mean, I wasn't born in my hometown). I also haven't been able to find any sources stating she died in Taganrog- all the sources specifically state that they believe she died in between Taganrog and Moscow. But maybe you've found something more definitive? GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 20:46, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to participate in a research

[edit]

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

Stop Griefing the Georgian Articles

[edit]

The only accepted Georgian script to be used is the Mkhedruli script. Not only are you wrong about Nuskhuri being contemporary, but these edits are essentially vandalism and completely unwelcome.

I have fixed the script on 3 pages, Emirate of Tbilisi, Kingdom of Georgia, and Kingdom of Iberians. Did you make these edits elsewhere? If so, name them and I'll fix them myself. AncapOgre (talk) 20:34, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:24, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Antanimora Prison

[edit]

Information icon Hello @HapHaxion, I'm Revirvlkodlaku. When I reverted this edit you made to the Antanimora Prison page, I asked that you explain how you improved the article. You proceeded to reinstate your edits, with the addition of citations and tags, but still without providing any edit summary. Edit summaries are not optional on Wikipepdia, and in the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia by adding a brief summary. Thank you.
