Use of London images
[edit]Hi David,
I have been looking for images of London to use for the design of a new city job/lifestyle website. Please view the very early stages at www.junior-broker.com.
You images look ideal for embedding in the flash intro's and other areas. I can list you on relevant pages with images provided by Diliff, although for design purposes not always right next to the actual picture if that is OK, can also embedd / display relevant links. Please let me know your thoughts, and if you agree to the use of your images, pointers on how you would like to proceed.
Outstanding images !!

Question About Photo for use
[edit]Hello There! My name is Francisco Garcia, and I am an Associate Creative Director for Design Kitchen in Chicago, IL. I was looking for a photo of the New York Public Library and absolutely loved your shot. Here is the tricky part, It will be used for commercial purposes. Our client, is hosting an exclusive event (I can send you info about the event). This event is limited space and invite only, there will be about 20-40,000 attendees, so the email list will be in the tens of thousands (not sure exactly how big the list is). The location for this event is
the New York Public Library, so our client wants a nice shot of the inside of the library.
Here is the link to the photo I am referring to: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/02/NYC_Public_Library_Research_Room_Jan_2006.jpg
Let me know what you would allow for the use of this photo (wether it's crediting you or monetary compensation). We would only need to use for about two months in three seperate emails that targets that same list of invites.
FYI, we need to show client the photo no later than this Monday Evening, November the 14th. Please let me know as soon as you can. Thanks!

[edit]'tis the season to be giving kittens. I stumbled upon one of your pictures of Zion Canyon, and I was wondering if you would give me permission to use it in a national parks guidebook? - Hi Michael, thanks for the kitten. Now, just have to figure out where to keep it...! I'd be happy to help out as it's a great project you're working on from what I can see from the web site. I have no idea what the 'competition' on the guidebook front is like, but I'm sure there is a big market for a guide that simplifies the planning and gives you all the basic info you need to find inspiration for and in the US National Parks. In return for allowing use of the photo, could I be cheeky and ask for a copy of the book once published, as is customary? :-) It's been a number of years since I was last in the Southwest United States and I'd love to go back again sometime - I'm sure I'd find some benefit from your book. As far as attribution goes, the URL of my wiki page and the text "Licence: CC-BY-SA 3.0" would be fine. Ðiliff «» (Talk) 11:07, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

I closed this nomination, for which you produced an edit, as "Not Promoted" because it was so stale. If you think the edit is worth re-nominating, please do so. Thanks. Makeemlighter (talk) 02:38, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

photo pass
[edit]Hi Diliff:
Very impressed by your photos and cameras. Would be super cool if you could take some gymnastics pictures (and a cool thing for GLAM to try to be more engaged...not just musuems).
If you will create a logon on here, it will start the process:
[1]. there is another part of the site for asking for a pass for specific competitions. Your category is "EP" (photographer).
There is actually a large pre-Olympic competition starting tomorrow. Might squeeze in. (Hard but worth a try. Contact of mine said he was able to.) In any case, when you are in the system, can ask for Oly access or the like. If we could do something smaller ahead of time, might be good though, so it does not just seem like we are fans trying to get privelenged views.

P.s. I asked a couple WMFers about how to get a supporting letter done as well. Hope that is not stepping on hyou. Just trying to pitch in. -TCO
- Hi TCO, thanks for the info. Are you based in London too? I wasn't able to tell from your Wiki user page. I signed up for the Gymnastics account as a photographer, but the next step in the process was to provide photo for an ID tag. I didn't have a passport-style photo ready to be scanned at the time, so I might have to find one tonight. Not sure how difficult it is to be accepted though, but I suppose we're at a disadvantage by not having a 'national press number' or whatever else they refer to in the application. As for the supporting letter, that is a good idea, both to increase our chances of getting accepted, and to increase awareness of the need for WMF to have access to these kinds of events. I'll let you know how it progresses, please let me know if you hear anything further too! Ðiliff «» (Talk) 11:38, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
Diliff this fellow at Wikinews has offered to write a letter to introduce you. [2] Can you coordinate with him? (leaving identical message for him). I am not in London. This website ([3] pdf links on left) has info on what sort of letter or assurance, they like to have. I think it fits right in with what Brian does, normally.
Really just playing matchmaker. I can help out with some article writing. Or maybe dig out some info from the gym bloggers that have press passes. (Will try to get you a specific name at FIG and at UK Federation, for Brian to adress letter to.)
I think your evident (from userpage) general photo experience, Featured Pictures, and being an adult are all helpful for the cause.
In terms of benefit for the FIG, they generally are pretty pro social media. I do think trying to get a pass to some competition lower than Olys would be the better place to start (there is the Test event going on as we speak in London). We can taut the benefits of media for WikiNews, for Commons, and for Articles. Probably important to note (in a positive manner) that images taken would then be available to others with CC by SA and that we can't use the commercial images (thus need you there to take photos).
I think we can lay on a little bit of justificantion with the huge page views of gymnast articles such as Nastia Liukin. Also, for instance the spike in viewing that came with the World Championships (that website).
Probably also good to say that WMF is making efforts to reach out to other organizations and has already done work with the British Museum and the like. That we recognize we need to improve on sports/celebrity photos and we decided to pilot gymanstics to start with (make them feel a little special hee hee).

- My contact advised doing a smaller meet first for practice. Here is a list in the UK. Many small ones don't have media accrediation. I guess trakcing someone down in UK federation, might be good, too. (separate from FIG). [4] TCO (Reviews needed) 21:38, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Điliff, TCO has been nagging me about 'letters of introduction' and whatnot; I initially assumed this was related to the WMau efforts. But, if you're in London, do you ever attend any of the meets for WM-UK? There is work afoot in relation to accreditation, with verification being administered by WM-UK. That, from a brief scan of this discussion, would be the best way to progress this. --Brian McNeil /talk 23:05, 10 January 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brian McNeil (talk • contribs)
- Hi Brian, thanks for dropping by. I've never attended a Wiki-meet in London. I can understand how it could help with verification but I'd never really given it much thought in terms of socialising to be honest. I usually have better things to do with my weekend afternoons. ;-) When you talk of verification, what exactly are you looking for? The ability to represent Wikimedia in a reasonably professional manner? Is there any other way of progressing things? Ðiliff «» (Talk) 23:36, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
I still think we can squeeze a letter out of Brian, but if not, we could try User Pigsonthewing (a UK GLAMer).
Also (sorry if this is a bother), but the person here ([http://www.thecouchgymnast.com/?page_id=1161 Brigid) is both a gymblogger and on the Federation accreditation committee.
I guess at this point, what makes sense is to find and target some event. Probably lower down than Olys, to just get started.TCO (Reviews needed) 01:50, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
Impressed
[edit]Just wanted to say how impressed I was with your photographs. I've had an amateur interest in photography since my teens (1960s), and it's astonishing how much the technology has progressed. Most of what I love are Wildlife Photography; I love going on safari to Africa. But I think your photos are marvelous--the panoramic shots and all the other stuff too. Good luck. 207.237.79.219 (talk) 05:32, 10 January 2012 (UTC) Allen Roth
Use of photograph of Roman baths, Bath, UK
[edit]Dear David
Hi, Steve Barnett here.
I have seen your Roman baths, Bath, photograph on the Wiki site and I was hoping to have your permission to use it (non-exclusive book use ) in a book of British walks/visits that I'm editing for a UK publisher.
Unfortunately I don't have any budget for purchasing photos for the book but in return for allowing the use of your photo, you and Wiki would be acknowledged in the book and you would receive a complimentary copy when it publishes.
Can I ask you to drop me a line pls asap - my email is [email protected]

Bots
[edit]I don't know if you want to reply to this. It seemed like there was some progress, but most likely, I'm mistaken. Feel free to reply on my talk if you don't want to fan the Milburn. Papa Lima Whiskey 2 (talk) 15:51, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
- I replied in-line. I'm not sure that any progress is being made in terms of retaining absolute vote-counting, but as per my comments, I still see room for a bot being involved in some way, shape or form. Ðiliff «» (Talk) 16:24, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
