[edit]I am afraid I don't quite get your point. Do you want to rename the article? Redirect? Delete? In any case, you better have some references to back up your statements. Renata 21:01, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, it can be deleted. In fact I can delete it myself because I am an admin. Do you want to? Renata 00:33, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

"Ethnic maps"
[edit]Hello there. Your comment[1], while removed, was quite legitimate. I've been planning to elaborate on that question for a long time now, but I fear that my additions would be reverted on sight. Anyway, the basic reason is the state ideology of both states in the interbellum. In Poland the authorities were pro-state and didn't care much for the nationality of the inhabitants, as long as they were loyal. On the other hand in Lithuania the matter of nationality was crucial hence Poles were considered disloyal to the state as a whole. Hence before WWI there were roughly 200,000 - 250,000 Poles living in what became the Republic of Lithuania. After the war Polish census bureau estimated that there were still some 200,000 left there, while Lithuanian authorities claimed that there are not more than 20,000 of them. Their reasoning was that Poles living there were in fact Polonized Lithuanians and as such were Lithuanians - regardless of what they thought of themselves. And so we come up with "ethnic maps" showing no Poles on the other side of the border. //Halibutt 00:02, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Surnames of Poles in Lithuania
[edit]An interesting section, but it badly needs references. Could you add them? Remember: WP:OR.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 19:04, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
9 million population in GDL or PLC
[edit]I think it's pretty clear that the 9 million refers to PLC not GDL - I think this is a pretty clear case of a typo in the source. I'm also pretty sure this was discussed previously on this or related talk page - you might want to check the archive. Very very few nations had a pop over a couple million at this time (England had a pop of about 2.5 million in 1350 with a much higher pop density). At the very least it should be appended with a note that this is probably a typo.radek (talk) 20:24, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
