Welcome
[edit]Hello, Bogdan/archive 1, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- Tutorial
- How to write a great article
- Manual of Style
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}}
on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions.
If you are interested in Ukraine-related themes, you may want to check out the Ukraine Portal, particularly the Portal:Ukraine/New article announcements and Portal:Ukraine/Ukraine-related Wikipedia notice board. The New article announcements board is probably the most important and the most attended one. Please don't forget to announce there the new articles you create. Adding both boards to your watchlist is probably a good idea.
Finally, in case you are interested, similar boards exist at Russia portal as many editors contribute to topics related to both countries. The respective boards there are: Portal:Russia/New article announcements and Portal:Russia/Russia-related Wikipedia notice board. Of course there are also many other portals at Wikipedia or you may just get right into editing.
Again, welcome! --Irpen 06:13, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
Images
[edit]I am sorry you had all this trouble with images. In Wikipedia, m:Comyright paranoia is pervasive and some users enjoy harassing others about images since the pretense of doing so to protect the Foundation gives them a perception of impunity while in many cases it would take less than a minute to simply retag the image uploaded by an inexperienced uses with the tag. Anyway, I will watch your talk page and when I see you being warned about some image I will take a look to see whether it can be saved from deletion. But even if you are unsure about copyright, please always provide the image source. It will make preserving it a whole lot easier. Happy edits, --Irpen 06:13, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Vepr.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Vepr.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Regarding images
[edit]Hi Bogdan. Regarding this your talk message: you can use the image request templates for filing standard images requests that will be automatically put to the respective category. I'd even ask you to do so. I requested that category to be populated: we need thousands of images on UA-related pages, so potential photographers (mappers etc.) need a consistent to-do list.
And talking about images: I think placing our national flag next to "the page looks bad" text on your userpage was a bad idea. Cheers, Ukrained 21:06, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Wow, thanks! Although I'm honored to have received my first award, I have to say that I expected one after I finished the Air Force, Navy, Ground forces series :P. Thanks again! Bogdan 00:16, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
- Only happy to recognize the work you do, better late than never. Will be keeping an eye in the future not to miss other great contributions by Counterstrike69 a.k.a. Bogdan. Best regards, --Riurik(discuss) 00:00, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
Lukashenko
[edit]I think what happened at [1] is that someone tried to introduce a photo of Lukashenko without uploading it to Wikipedia (which isn't technically possible). I been looking for a free photo of President Lukashenko, but had not have much luck yet. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 02:04, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Kyiv, not Kiev
[edit]Hello,
Can I ask why you changed the spelling from Kyiv to Kiev? The old style is being phased out everywhere, and people coming from government or news sites will be confused.
Everybody but CNN and Wikipedia seems to have changed.

- It is easier to search for information if you already know what exactly you are looking for. We have numbers of those brigades now, we need to expand the articles.

Hello
[edit]Hello,
Thanks for the invite and welcome.
I am just the type of person who likes to do one thing at a time. I think that the name should really be Kyiv, for all of the reasons I outlined on the page.
I think that the Kyiv page should be not a good article, but a featured article. Once I start on that path, however, I will probably focus completely on that. If you have any other requests, I would be happy to help. However, long ago I learned the expensive way that if I don't focus, I won't get anything done well.
Thanks, Horlo 04:23, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

Hope you don't mind
[edit]Hello,
First, congratulations on the Ukrainian Air Force page. It is very well written and comprehensive.
I made a few small grammar tweaks on it, I hope you don't mind.
Thanks,Horlo 01:52, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- Of course I don't mind. Don't hesitate to help out/add on to anything that I might have missed (from what I see there was quite a bit). You have been very inspired in the naming debate, please, aim some of that initiative to some other topics, I think a lot of people would really appreciate it...You might also want to take a look at this, thanks for the notice, Bogdan 02:09, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Hi Bogdan/Counterstrike (what do you prefer?), I put that tag there because while there are lots of sources, much of the text, especially the new middle bit, has no references. It's not sources, it's just that there are no footnotes. Would you like me to indicate where I think there need to be footnotes/refs instead of adding the sources tag at the top? It's the sourced information that will turn it into a real encyclopaedia article. Cheers Buckshot06 08:38, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
- Sure, whenever you like just put "{fact}" next to the statements that you think need a ref, and I'll provide a source.
P.S. My name is Bogdan. Thanks for the help, Bogdan 18:36, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hey, noticed the cool new pic of the Su-27 you uploaded. Just thought I should remind you that your explanation for the status cuts off in midsentance, so you might want to fix that. Which article do you want to put it in? Cheers Buckshot06 20:36, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
What do you mean it cuts off?
And I was going to put it in Ukrainian Air Force, but I'm currently waiting for a reply from the author. Until then...I guess I'll just leave it be. Regards, Bogdan 22:21, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- Go back and look at the page - the sentance you wrote does not make sense. Cheers Buckshot06 19:46, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Ceriy 20:13, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
- Oh...that was just my mistake. At first when I uploaded the image I put the wrong knid of license on. Once I noticed it I changed the license, but the file history stayed down there and there no way to remove it. It cuts off because the initial edit is just too long to fit in that box. Request
[edit]Greetings Bogdan, as you are one of the few native speakers of Russian language among the Russian military history task force members, we would like to kindly ask you to help us on the next matter: we need to translate this rus-wiki article into english - ru:1-? ?????? ??????????? ?????????? ?????? - as we don't have any Russian Rifle Corps articles on en-wiki. The translation of that article will be a very good addition to Wiki and Military history project! Would you be able to help us with this? Thanks and best regards, --Eurocopter tigre 17:46, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
- Sure, why not.
Although this might take me a while as I've been farely busy the last few weeks. This article is much shorter than I thought, I'll be sure to get started...Cheers, Bogdan 20:17, 10 October 2007 (UTC)- Thanks a lot, that'll be very helpfull!! --Eurocopter tigre 20:22, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Airmobile Flag
[edit]As far as I know the Airmobile forces didn't get their own flag. Or do you have other information? Ceriy 04:46, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
- I'm actually not positive...but I'm pretty sure I've seen one though. It looks somewhat like the ground forces flag but with a parachute (unless that was a joke/unofficial). I put that request on the Ukrainian portal just in case someone came across it. Thanks, Bogdan 23:13, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
Exactly. That's their official one right? Bogdan 19:47, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
- That flag is of russian VDV, but I don't think that it is official, as for Ukrainian I don't know. Since there is no mention of a separate flag in any documents, and official armed forces flag list, I think they use the same one as any other ground forces unit. Ceriy 20:09, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
- Just received a book from military Heraldry academy. The only flags that Ukrainian armed forces have are the Ground, Air, Naval forces flags. Airmobile forces are part of Ground Forces so they use their flag. However their unit banners are different from the Ground forces flags. Redirecting user pages?
[edit]Is there any particular reason you want your user and user talk pages to direct to those of a nonexistent user? It's highly irregular and confusing.--chaser - t 00:25, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- What's so confusing? This is the account that I creaed when I joined Wikipedia, and when I saw that there was no account named user:Bogdan (my name is Bogdan) I redirected it...Bogdan 00:30, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- If you'd like to change your username, see WP:CHU. Videmus Omnia Talk 00:32, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Alright then, is possible to delete that page so that it can truly be nonexistant? Bogdan 00:38, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- If you "own" a page (like your own userpage), then you can tag it with {{db-owner}} to get rid of it. Since you don't technically have that account, you can tag User:Bogdan with {{db-author}} to get rid of it. Admins will be loathe to delete the user talk page you've been using, though. The easiest thing to do is just to request a rename at the link Videmus Omnia gave you above. Cheers!--chaser - t 01:49, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Speedy tags
[edit]Also, you're really not supposed to remove speedy deletion tags from images you uploaded [2]. Please leave making a determination about whether or not the images are truly copyright violations to administrators who patrol CAT:CSD. Thank you.--chaser - t 00:28, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- I know I'm not, but these tags where removed by an administrator, he didn't get all of them (all the Ukrainian insignia ones) so I finished what was left. Bogdan 00:32, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

IfD notification
[edit]The images from uniforminsignia.net that were used to illustrate the articles on Ukrainian rank insignia have been nominated for deletion here. Videmus Omnia Talk 02:31, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- So you're proposing that we do what with the article after there are no images? Bogdan 02:43, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, I'm proposing that the copyrighted images be replaced with free content, either Ukrainian government images or user-created ones. Videmus Omnia Talk 02:54, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
In other words...you don't really care about the article, but you only care about copyrights? Bogdan 03:02, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- There wouldn't be any articles if we ignored copyright issues and let the encyclopedia get sued into bankruptcy. Every little bit by volunteers like Videmus Omnia helps Wikimedia's lawyers to avoid dealing with it themselves. This may be a borderline case, but that's why we have a deletion discussion about it.--chaser - t 03:13, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- You honestly believe that informinsignia.net is going to sue wikipedia? Bogdan 03:18, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- Although that's a possibility, the main issue is not about getting sued - it's about creating free content. It's wrong to steal someone else's work because we think we can get away with it. Videmus Omnia Talk 03:21, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- You honestly believe that informinsignia.net is going to sue wikipedia? Bogdan 03:18, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
If you put it that way, I guess it's just a matter of opinion. Whether you think that we have no right to take the website's work, or whether I think that the website has no right to claim what the Ukrainian government has dubbed "public domain" as their own. Bogdan 03:27, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
I encourage you to discuss the images at IFD if you want your thoughts considered by the closing admin.--chaser - t 05:21, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
