USyd editathon

[edit]

Hi 97198, we met at the 2014 USyd Wikibomb - it was so helpful having you and other experienced wikipedians there. The Sydney Uni Press has just organized another similar editathon [1], and if you're free, I'm sure they'd appreciate your involvement. I'm hoping to help out at the 12pm session. --99of9 (talk) 06:40, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Page mover granted

[edit]

Hello, 97198. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, and move subpages when moving the parent page(s).

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

Useful links:

If you do not want the page mover right anymore, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Thank you, and happy editing! NeilN talk to me 04:02, 10 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

05:48:29, 27 April 2017 review of submission by Nirajjvyas

[edit]

Hey Sophie,

I noticed that you rejected our Christine Merlin page submission. You noted that she is not notable enough and that we simply cited her own work. I wanted to point out a few things already in the article:

  • Reference #4, 5, 10, 11, 15, and 16 are all studies performed by OTHER scientists. These scientists cite Merlin's work as a basis for their studies.
  • She is a member of the Society for Research on Biological Rhythms and Insect Genetic Technologies Research Coordination Network, in both of which she has given talks to other chronobiologists so that her information could be used to guide many other studies in the field.
  • She has developed new procedures and discovered physiological functions of the circadian clock in moths and butterflies (for which we have provided her papers AND secondary reviews by other researchers)

We have demonstrated in this page that she has made significant contribution to the field, her contributions are not only used by others in the field, but by a significant number of other scientists (reference #12 has been cited in over 250 other papers), and the impact of her contributions in detail.

It seems very evident that these points demonstrate her to be 'notable,' and we would like for you to consider a second, careful review. If you think she is still not 'notable,' then please provide a SPECIFIC example pertaining to Merlin that we can add to the article for approval. We've worked on this page for approximately three weeks in a university chronobiology class and we are absolutely stunned that she has been denied a page for a second time.

[edit]

The article that you're asking me to expand is 'first day of issue'. I've written about British first day covers and the term 'first day of issue' is reserved for Royal Mail postmarks. The first day of issue article is referring to American covers and American cultures. The process in Britain, along with Royal Mail, is unique to the UK, which is why I believe an article under the title First Day Covers should exist and should be separate to first day of issue. Hi, you reviewed the Article zu Thomas Lambrecht. I don't understand why, because it's a translation of the German Wikipedia by Lambrecht himself. Is it because of missing Informationen about his research or publications? What would be helpful to not be rejected? Explain it to me please, because I don't know the specifics of the english Wiki and for the german one it's all fine.

Thanks, G.Kopfer

FYI: As recent sources including Rotten, IMDB, GQ, Rolling Stone Mag use Lakeith Stanfield, I've moved the article from Keith Stanfield to Lakeith Stanfield. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 22:23, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Jim1138: Thanks, good move. At the time I created the article he was mainly known as Keith but I see that has changed. 97198 (talk) 02:03, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Filling DYK preps

[edit]

97198, I wasn't sure whether you'd seen WT:DYK#Prep promoter needed, which was posted by Yoninah. It gives a couple of approved nominations that both she and Cwmhiraeth had been involved in, which neither can therefore promote (and they're our most frequent prep set builders). If you would consider giving them a look the next time you work on a prep set, that would be great. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 17:03, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@BlueMoonset: Yes, I had seen that. I only promote hooks that I am confident meet all the DYK rules and that I think are interesting. I don't feel comfortable promoting either of those nominations because I don't think they are factually accurate. (Most of Christian Guzman's videos have well below 300,000 views and Beena Paul's film doesn't seem to have had an all-female crew.) Sorry. 97198 (talk) 01:55, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Review?

[edit]

Hi 97198, you have a lot of GA reviews, and I was wondering if you've seen City of Angels and would be willing to review it? I have three GACs on the go and I was hoping to get one done before having to move/start a new job after the long weekend. Ribbet32 (talk) 23:57, 1 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Ribbet32: I haven't seen it but I might be able to review it. I'm very busy with real life commitments for the next few weeks so the earliest I'd be available to do a proper review would be late September. 97198 (talk) 05:07, 2 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Grant Liddle

[edit]

On 17 September 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Grant Liddle, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Grant Liddle discovered Liddle's syndrome, a genetic cause of high blood pressure? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Grant Liddle. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Grant Liddle), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Hi. Thankyou for your participation in the challenge series or/and contests. In November The Women in Red World Contest is being held to try to produce new articles for as many countries worldwide and occupations as possible. There will be over $4000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. If this would appeal to you and you think you'd be interested in contributing new articles on women during this month for your region or wherever please sign up in the participants section. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate and raise money to buy books about women for others to use, this is also fine. Thankyou, and if taking part, good luck!♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:28, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hook promotions

[edit]

Hi, since both Cwmhiraeth and I worked on these nominations, could you help promote them to prep?

Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 19:55, 1 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Yoninah: Sure, I just had a look and promoted both. 97198 (talk) 01:26, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Yoninah (talk) 16:24, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Now I just had a look at the prep set. The "happy farm animals" hook really works a lot better with the image of the walking and talking pigs. I know we're running Alice in Wonderland in Prep 1; maybe you could move it to the image slot in Prep 4? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 16:27, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Reviewing

Hello, 97198.

I've seen you editing recently and you seem knowledgeable about Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
Would you please consider becoming a New Page Reviewer? Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; currently Wikipedia needs experienced users at this task. (After gaining the flag, patrolling is not mandatory. One can do it at their convenience). But kindly read the tutorial before making your decision. Sakaye Shigekawa

[edit]

Hi, I received a talk page entry at User talk:Myasuda#Dr. Sakaye Sugikawa from an IP user that is most likely meant for you. I've already responded to that user's comment at my talk page and in email, and have just pointed him to your talk page (in an email). If you're so inclined, you can either make the changes that he's requested (if you agree that they're legitimate) or assist him in making the changes himself. My general impression is that his requested change is reasonable. Thanks. — Myasuda (talk) 14:27, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Myasuda: Thanks for letting me know. I'm not sure entirely what they think ought to be changed – they note a "significant error" but, having reread the article and their message, I can't figure out exactly what it is. As far as I can tell the information in the article is an accurate reflection of the sources, but I'm happy to help the user out if they return. 97198 (talk) 03:36, 28 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies

[edit]

My apologies for tripping over you at Prep 4. This is the time of day when I often build sets and my monitor appeared to show me that Prep 4 was empty. If there were some hooks in the set I would look at the history to see if somebody was working on it, but in this instance it was empty so I didn't. Actually my computer display is sometimes misleading and caches the screenshot when I would rather it didn't, and thus gives me poor information. So I was just about to build Prep 4 before I realised you were doing so. I will work on Prep 5 instead. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:25, 8 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Cwmhiraeth: Sorry about that! I only noticed your {{inuse}} template after I'd added the final hook. Hope it didn't inconvenience you too much. 97198 (talk) 06:32, 8 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No, I was only just starting. It might be a good thing another time to start by adding and saving one hook to indicate you are working on a set, and then I would know to avoid it. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:41, 8 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Cwmhiraeth: Sure, I'll try to remember to do that in future. 97198 (talk) 06:45, 8 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
