This may be a bit of a vanity page, but I decided to move my awards here to reduce clutter. Nonetheless, if anyone would like to leave me an award, please do so on my talk page. Also, feel free to check if I have a barnstar for a similar reason. I don't see myself turning down an award, but I like to have some variety to pretend I'm well-rounded. Thanks.

Below are all the awards others saw fit to present to me for my contributions to Wikipedia. I decided to group these together with WikiProjects rather than chronologically.

Recognition and criticism

[edit]
Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others. – Cicero

Praise is a fool, and you may make him useful. – Danish proverb

Our praises are our wages. – Hermione, in Shakespeare, The Winter's Tale, act I, scene II

Hundreds of studies by behavioural economists and psychologists show that praise motivates constructive behaviour.[1][2] This can be particularly useful in a volunteer community which lacks tangible rewards. Excessive use of praise can, however, reduce its value if it is perceived to be undiscerning or exaggerated. While praise can be a motivating factor, honest criticism can also be invaluable in guiding individuals toward constructive behaviour.

On Wikipedia, a general practice of collegial editing was expanded by the Kindness Campaign into a system of recognizing editors by awarding barnstars for various acts and achievements, and strategies to measure such praise with criticism and to promote peace and understanding amongst editors. Although it takes a certain amount of time and energy to recognize editors, I feel that this is returned several times in overall participation.

I have awarded 953 barnstars, mostly through the Guild of Copy Editors, the 10,000 Challenge of WikiProject Canada, and the Million Award program. I also provide guidance at these WikiProjects and occasionally at WP:Third opinion, the WP:Teahouse, Category:Wikipedians looking for help, and on talk pages. For these various acts of guidance and encouragement I have received the following barnstars:

The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar
Thanks for your valuable time given for reviewing my work and pointing out areas that can be improved. Thank you sir. :) Vr parashar (talk) 21:56, 22 July 2017 (UTC)

The Guidance Barnstar (×3)

The Guidance Barnstar was awarded for:

  • Thank you very much for your polite, prompt, detailed and uncondescending assistance proffered to a brash newbie. It is much appreciated. I strongly suspect that I am far from the first to receive this unassuming support. It helps make Wikipedia the kind of place that people want to come back to. With kind regards, Simon Gog the Mild (talk) 9 January 2018
  • For your excellent guidance and firm reviews during October Blitz 2018, which helped me to learn better copyediting and stay motivated, I award you the Guidance Barnstar as a token of respect. Suman chowdhury 22 (talk) 21 October 2018.
  • For guiding me through three drives and two blitzes, and overall, giving me feedback on my copy edits. Thanks for the help, and good editing! – Ben79487 (talk) 2 April 2019
The Barnstar Barnstar
By the authority invested in me by me I hereby award you the Barnstar Barnstar in recognition of your diligence over an extended period in identifying good work in others and encouraging it by the timely but discerning bestowal of barnstars. Long may you continue to award deserved barnstars. Gog the Mild (talk) 16:48, 11 November 2018 (UTC)

Typo Team

[edit]
The Typo Team Barnstar
Dear Reidgreg,
Thank you very much for your recent contributions to the Typo Team!
What a neat solution to such an obscure problem! I admire the care and determination you showed from beginning to end, and also the congenial way in which you worked with our fellow editor 117Avenue and with the Language reference desk to complete the task.
Thank you for all your other contributions to our encyclopedia, and good luck with all your Wikiprojects.
With kind regards;
Patrick. Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 16:08, 28 June 2016 (UTC)

This was my first barnstar, awarded a few weeks after I registered my useraccount. To some extent, I feel this may be an "enthusiastic newcomer's award" but it was a nice show of early encouragement while I was learning how Wikipedia functions. Not a lot of editors have received this award, and it's a bit of a distinction to be recognized for this sort of obsessive-compulsiveness by fellow obsessive-compulsives.

Guild of Copy Editors

[edit]

Most of these were earned from participating with the Guild of Copy Editors (GOCE) in forty-seven blitzes and forty-seven drives, copy editing 1,008 articles for a total of 2,193,374 words (or 3,093,270 words with bonuses). This included a four-year streak (Nov 2016 – Sep 2020) without falling off the drive leaderboard in any category. Awards are presented in a gallery format to save space and avoid repetition.

The Copyeditor's Barnstar (×4)

The Copyeditor's Barnstar was awarded by individual editors:

  • For The Doctor (Doctor Who), a large article, and I truly appreciate that you took the time to go through the article and copyedit. Emir of Wikipedia, 4 November 2016
  • For your helpful copyedits to the article Disinformation, and your compliments about the improvements I've tried to make to the article over time. Sagecandor, 22 June 2017
  • For tackling the list of Haitians. You're a braver soul than I, 'cause I looked at it when I split out the list of Haitian artists and wussed right out. PMC, 8 July 2017
  • For your copy editing work on TAI Aksungur and intervention in its DYK nomination. I am very much grateful. CeeGee 28 June 2019
Snacks & drinks
  The Teamwork Barnstar
It is with great pleasure that I award this barnstar jointly and severally to Baffle gab1978, Jonesey95, Miniapolis, Reidgreg and Tdslk. It has been earned by the serene grace with which these editors guide GOCE through the choppy waters of Wikipedia while no doubt paddling like crazy beneath the surface. Both the paddling and the calm are much appreciated. Gog the Mild (talk) 16:21, 3 December 2018 (UTC)
The Featured Article Medal
By the authority vested in me by myself it gives me great pleasure to present you with this award in recognition of the tremendous amount of work you have done to ensure that November's TFAs are in as good a condition as they can be before they hit the main page. Thank you. Gog the Mild (talk) 16:47, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
The Saint's Star Award and The Galicia Barnstar of National Merit
Thanks for the help with the All things dealing with Saint James' Day and triple-hook picture-slot DYK on 25 July 2023. – evrik (talk) 05:55, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

WikiProject Canada

[edit]

Most of the small number of articles I've written have fallen under WikiProject Canada. I've also helped with maintenance and coordination on the usergroup's 10,000 Challenge, cleaning up the pages, advertising and promoting the challenge, and giving out awards to participants. For these and other efforts, I received the following awards:

The Bronze Maple Leaf Award
This maple leaf is awarded to Reidgreg for outstanding collaboration throughout the edit drive and improvement of articles during The 10,000 Challenge of WikiProject Canada. Congratulations, and thank you for your contributions! Jon Kolbert (talk) 18:58, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
Hey Reidgreg, thanks again for your help with the Canadian Comedy Awards page a few months ago. And congrats on all your Barnstar awards! We just announced our nominees in the 18th CCAs and I was wondering when might be a good time to make additions to that page. If your offer of help is still available. sifr4 (talk) 00:29, 25 April 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for you help with the Canadian Comedy Awards. Hopefully we can get other years done. Again, let me know what I can help with with anything you are specifically working on when it comes to the Canadian Comedy Awards. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 02:28, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
A Barnstar!
The Silver Maple Leaf Award

Awarded for an outstanding five-page DYK nomination that showcased high quality coverage of quintessential Canadian topics: poutine, peameal bacon, Made in Canada, and Canadian Comedy Awards. Thanks for the wonderful contributions. Wugapodes [thɑk] [ˈkan.ˌʧɹɪbz] 20:42, 1 July 2019 (UTC)

The Three-Quarter Million Award
For your contributions to bring Poutine (estimated annual readership: 750,000) to Good Article status, I hereby present you the Three-Quarter Million Award. Congratulations on this rare accomplishment, and thanks for all you do for Wikipedia's readers! Bilorv (he/him) (talk) 23:39, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
The Barnstar of Diligence
Reidgreg, I am awed by your diligence, dedication, and expertise in developing and sourcing Canada-related content. Your contributions were invaluable for bringing The Precious Legacy to GA status and the Wayne and Shuster comedy routines to main page appearances on DYK. I am also grateful for your willingness to help! Wishing you much success in all your endeavors. Best, Yoninah (talk) 10:59, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
Four Award
Congratulations! You have been awarded the Four Award for your work from beginning to end on Danzig Street shooting. Gog the Mild (talk) 14:16, 19 June 2022 (UTC)

Women in Red (and Green)

[edit]

Women in Red (WIR) seeks to write women's biographies to remove redlinks and some of the gender bias on Wikipedia, while Women in Green (WIG) focuses on improving the quality of these articles (many of which are stubs). In November 2017 I took part in WIR's The World Contest which was their most-successful editing drive at that time. I placed 16th overall, 3rd for North American biographies and 4th (tied) for women in healthcare, earning $45 in prizes. I only ranked 19th for prize earnings, as I didn't split into subcategories very effectively. (I ranked 1st for Canadian articles but there was no prize for that.)

The World Contest Laurels
Congratulations for finishing in 16th place overall in the Women in Red World Contest!! – Dr. Blofeld (talk) 14:05, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
Women in Green Editathon June '24
Thank you so much for contributing to Women in Green's sixth editathon (Going Back in Time), with your successful GA nomination of Dorothy Dworkin and your review of Amat-Mamu. Excellent work! Best wishes --Grnrchst (talk) 11:37, 3 July 2024 (UTC)

WikiProject Military History

[edit]

While this is not a subject of particular competence for me, this WikiProject is very organized and really has its act together. They have many resources and set an example for other user groups to follow. It is a pleasure to work with them.

The WikiChevrons
On behalf of the Milhist coordinators, you are hereby awarded the WikiChevrons for your efforts during the April 2018 MILHIST Backlog Drive. Thank you for your contributions. AustralianRupert (talk) 09:14, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
The WikiChevrons
For scoring an impressive and monothematic 513 points in the WikiProject Military history 2020 edit-a-thon March Madness, I am pleased to award you this token of appreciation from the Project. Thank you, and well done. Gog the Mild (talk) 10:26, 2 April 2020 (UTC)

Wikimedia Ukraine

[edit]

This interlanguage challenge was organized on Wikimedia at meta:Ukraine's Cultural Diplomacy Month #UCDMonth, and ran from 10 February to 10 March 2021. The event was organized by Wikimedia Ukraine and sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Institute. It was interesting to take part in such a broad editing drive and to work on translating, sourcing and expanding some worthy articles.

A few months afterwards, in the second round of prizes (the leftovers after the first round had their pick), I received some swag: a nice little notebook with the contest cover, a Wikipedia pencil to write in it, and a Wikipedia button, sticker, and keychain.

The second edition of the event ran from 17 February to 17 March 2022 – during which Russia invaded Ukraine (again). It was an unsettling experience as an editor to be writing about the War in Donbas, to have all of that in my mind, and have sources in the country going offline due to the current invasion. It's been reported that Wikipedians in Russia were arrested for allegedly violating Russia's censorship laws. For more information, see Wikipedia and the Russian invasion of Ukraine and Blocking of Wikipedia in Russia.

The third edition of the event ran from 1 to 31 March 2023. While working on an article for the challenge I learned a bit more about Russian disinformation strategies and Ukrainophobia, and what an important subject area this is to contribute toward. I hope to do more in the coming year.

The Ukrainian Barnstar
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for participating in Ukraine's Cultural Diplomacy Month 2022! We are grateful for your willingness to share free knowledge about the people and culture of Ukraine when it is needed the most.

Because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, there could be delays in shipping prizes, however, we will definitely get back soon with more information on that.

Take care and stay safe. – ValentynNefedov (WMUA) 09:18, 4 April 2022 (UTC)

UCDM 2023 Barnstar
I am delighted that you have responded to the invitation and once again have taken part in Ukraine's Cultural Diplomacy Month. No matter how large or small your contribution to this year’s campaign, I want to thank you for your recurring dedication to sharing the cultural phenomena of Ukraine on the pages of Wikipedia!

Stay safe and accept our deepest gratitude ValentynNefedov (WMUA) (talk) 09:46, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

UCDM 2024 Barnstar
I'm thrilled that you've accepted the invitation and joined Ukraine's Cultural Diplomacy Month once more. Whether your involvement this year is big or small, I appreciate your continued commitment to showcasing Ukraine's cultural richness on Wikipedia!

Thanks and take care! ValentynNefedov (WMUA) 16 April 2024

General editing

[edit]
The Special Barnstar
Thank you for the recent DYK review. But the reason why I'm awarding you this barnstar is because I looked into the recent outstanding contributions you've done in other areas of this encyclopedia. I noticed you didn't have this barnstar, so now you can add it to your collection! Happy editing, MX (talk) 15:56, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

copy edit gnome

Thank you for quality articles such as Danzig Street shooting, Martha Chaves and Rebecca Jamieson, for coordinating project GOCE, for reviewing, for typo team help and "amazing fluff-trimming", looking for "clarity, consistency, conciseness, tone, minor layout and linking, reduced overlong plots" – you are an awesome Wikipedian!

Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:27, 24 November 2018 (UTC)}}

Editor of the Week
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week for December 30, 2018 – January 5, 2019, in recognition of your great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project)
The Original Barnstar
This is for mass message delivery: June 12, 2019, and recent contributions... Stalin Sunny Talk2Me 16:33, 16 June 2019 (UTC)

The above barnstar was for catching a delivery error with a mass message, manually creating a temporary list for the missed recipients and re-sending. Mass messages is one of those quiet little corners of Wikipedia, and only gets a few requests per month as most users who regularly send newsletters can easily get the user right to do it themselves. It's sort of in my wheelhouse, though, as I can copy edit and cleanup outgoing newsletters, and it's nice to see what other WikiProjects are doing.

Happy International Volunteer Day
Every Wikipedian is a volunteer, and you deserve this recognition. Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia. Abishe (talk) 05:55, 5 December 2019 (UTC)

The BLP Barnstar
For your work in Vinoj P. Selvam, finding sources and copyediting for accuracy and neutrality. SVcode(Talk) 18:22, 5 September 2021 (UTC)
The Citation Barnstar
For finding some sources to help me out with the Development section in Slime Rancher. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#0001 18:01, 23 September 2021 (UTC)

The Featured Article Medal
By the authority vested in me by myself it gives me great pleasure to present you with this special, very exclusive award created just for we few, we happy few, this band of brothers, who have shed sweat, tears and probably blood, in order to be able to proudly claim "I too have taken an article to Featured status". July songs

Thank you for the article Danzig Street shooting "about a 2012 shooting in Toronto, Canada. It occurred at a crowded block party and is considered the city's worst mass shooting, with 27 bullets fired and 26 people wounded, 2 fatally. All four people convicted in relation to the shooting were teenagers at the time of the incident.", and welcome to TFA! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:02, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

For help via the Reward Board on my draft Draft:Dark Hollow I reward you:

  • Tireless Contributor – I gotta say you did a lot of work. You deserve this!
  • The Writer's Barnstar – For giving some tips on sources I could use for the author.
  • The Literary Barnstar – For cleaning up the draft on the novel and arranging it in a nice way.
  • The Citation Barnstar – For adding citations and details like the footnote so people won't confuse the main character with the singer.

Know that I appreciate it! You helped me out even thought you didn't need to, so these belong to you. – User:Wikiwow1102 (talk) 05:06, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

The 25 DYK Creation and Expansion Medal
Thank you for all your hard work! – evrik (talk) 14:47, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
45th place in the 2024 WikiCup, round 2.

I only made it past the first round, which has a lot of drop-outs, and finished 45th with 52+61 points (equivalent to three GAs) so this is a small accomplishment. Despite maintaining a respectable review-to-nomination ratio, I only received one GAN review from January through April and was eliminated with several others awaiting review. If I try this again, I'll have to start making nominations in August or September of the previous year, and maybe push toward some FACs along with a lot of DYKs and reviews.

Article reviews

[edit]

There are some other barnstars for reviewing above; those are more for reviewing edits by specific editors in a mentorship role. These are for thorough article reviews.

The Reviewer Barnstar
Thank you for completing 15 reviews in the April–May 2020 GAN Backlog drive. Your work helped us to reduce the backlog by over 60%. Regards, Harrias talk 08:33, 11 July 2020 (UTC)
