Douglas Herbert is an American politician in the Democratic Party. He is currently the Democratic nominee for Congress in New Jersey's 11th District.

Early Life and Education

Doug was born on 12 June 1961 in Marion, Indiana. He grew up in the Midwest and was raised by a single mother. After graduating high school, Doug chose to enlist in the United States Army. He served for four years, a large period of which was spent in Germany. Upon returning to the United States, Doug attended night school while working in construction.[1]

Eventually Doug transferred to Columbia University. There he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Political Science in 1992. He also met his wife, Marcy Wecker, a fellow student. After Columbia, Doug and Marcy attended Seton Hall Law School, both earning their law degrees.[1]

Doug and Marcy are now married and have three children. Doug coaches his children in soccer, baseball, and football.

Army Service

Doug served in the Army for four years. He was an infantryman with both the 2nd Armored Division and the 82nd Airborne Division. For his service he received numerous awards and decorations, including the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Achievement Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.[1]

Community Activism

Doug resides in Chatham Borough, New Jersey and is a practicing attorney. He is a member of Chatham's Zoning Board of Adjustment and the Joint Recreation Committee of Chatham Borough and Chatham Township.[2]

He is a founding member of Chatham's Green Initiatives Committee.[2]

2010 Congressional Campaign

Doug won New Jersey's 11th congressional district Democratic primary on 8 June 2010. In the subsequent days, Doug officially kicked off his campaign for Congress against Republican incumbent against Rodney Frelinghuysen.[3]

Doug won his Democratic Primary for Congress in 2010 with 72% of the vote, receiving 6,192 votes. [4]
