Lisette Lagnado (Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, February 24, 1961) is a journalist, art critic, university teacher and Brazilian curator.

Biography

Based in São Paulo since her adolescence, Lagnado studied Social Communication at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo, where she obtained a bachelor and master degree. She holds a PhD in Philosophy from the Universidade de São Paulo.[1] She was the chief curator of the 27th São Paulo Bienial (2006) and curated an exhibition on Iberê Camargo (1914-1994) at the Mercosur Bienal in 1999.[2] Another notable exhibition she curated was Drifts and Derivations: Experiences, Journeys and Morphologies at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia (Madrid) in 2010.[3]

Lagnado started her career as contributor and co-editor of the Arte em São Paulo magazine, founded by painter Luiz Paulo Baravelli. She organized the catalogue raissonné of the artist Leonilson (1957-1993). She was an editor and art critic for the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo in the 1980s.[4]

Lagnado was co-editor of the cultural electronic magazine Trópico, published by UOL and she taught at the Faculdade Santa Marcelina.[5][6][7]

She was director of the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage from 2014 until March 2017.[8]

Lagnado is on the curatorial team of the 2020 Berlin Bienniale.[9]
