Do we need the full version?

[edit]

In looking at this announcements template today, I noticed the full version of the template includes 35 sub-templates for various state subprojects and task forces, with two more for the old Interstate and U.S. Routes projects. Examining the edit history of each, I found that only 9 of these sub-templates have had any meaningful, non-bot edits since the end of 2007. Of the 9 that have been edited, Maryland's is the only one that seems to have had any meaningful and semi-regular edits in 2009. With these sub-templates being edited so infrequently, there is obviously no meaningful announcement information being given in them--although some show article completion percentages in them, which could just as easily be maintained on the subproject/task force page. There appears to be only one user transcluding the full version on their user page as well.

I guess I'm asserting that the full version of this template is no longer necessary. It, and the assorted sub-templates, can probably be nominated for deletion. If there's any state-level project using a sub-template on it's project page for news purposes, those templates could be retained. Thoughts? --LJ (talk) 01:18, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Support. I've been wondering about this for a while (as the original creator) and have noticed it not being used. It's probably time for this to be deleted. --Rschen7754 04:09, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree too, as most state subprojects are inactive. If a user wants news from an individual project, they can simply go to the project's page. ---Dough4872 18:15, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Most people stopped using the by-state subtemplates when the old Project U.S. Roads template went to a hide/show format, and the few states that still used them past that point stopped when the current USRD announcement template went live since it became necessary to actively seek out the by-state templates. That said, even if they were put back in a more prominent location, I doubt they'd serve much purpose anymore since most projects are either dead or have one or two editors, making news templates for them unnecessary. I say delete the lot. – TMF 04:05, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Do we have to go through TFD for this or can we just delete it under CSD or something? --Rschen7754 06:00, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
CSD-G6 perhaps, as housekeeping actions for the project? --LJ (talk) 08:05, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'll go through and take care of it sometime this week. --Rschen7754 08:33, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
