Notable alumni list
[edit]It has come to my attention that JJay keeps reverting the "Notable Alumni" section. Unfortunately, some of these people exist and are indeed notable alumni. For example, Adam Reinwald is currently a member of one of the most prestigious vocal ensembles in the world (check here [1] for verification). I formally request JJay to revert the page to include Adam Reinwald as a notable alum. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tethros (talk • contribs)
- I made the original addition of Adam Reinwald and second the request. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Offloe (talk • contribs)
- Could you please add Craig Wasson (Sheldon 1972) to the "Notable Alumni" section. He is a fine actor with a long career and many television and movie credits. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.52.96.40 (talk) 21:43, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- Done Here is a reference. This info needs to be added to the Wasson article or the entry on the list here is subject to removal. Valfontis (talk) 23:03, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
Todo list
[edit]
A few things that definitly need done:
Additions of awards to Sheldon High. I know that there have been several but I can't think of them.
Flesh out the extracurricular section
Add to the school history. When did the school start? What was the area like when it was opened.
fill out the media section. What is in the Talisman? Why is it distributed? Who writes for it? Also, what other forms of media is produced by Sheldon Students? Radio? Television? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Piratejosh (talk • contribs)
April 2009 cleanup
[edit]I made some major efforts to clean up this article in April 2009, and Piratejosh reverted them. To follow WP:BRD, I'll discuss the changes here.
- Non-notable/unencyclopedic: Removed the ASB bit, "non-athletic activities", "spirit", fight song, alma mater, media, newspaper. Not notable.
- Duplication: removed the address, it's already on the coords list
- Cleanup: Removed a hard-to-maintain table of athletics wins, converted into a list. Cleaned up the radio section to avoid peacock/advert words. Converted awards table into prose.
- Notable alumni list: Removed entries that don't qualify as notable (no Wiki entry under their names), cleaned up length of summaries of each person. The information on each name only needs to be enough to explain who the person is.
In general, these are per the WP:SCHOOLS article guidelines. Some of these sections could be re-added if there are verifiable and non-local reliable sources to back up their notability (media, newspaper may qualify for this).
Per our small conversation, Piratejosh should be providing his concerns with these edits here, so we can achieve consensus on the cleanup. Others will probably contribute too! tedder (talk) 01:45, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
- Looks like Piratejosh has been hard at work on this article for some time. It's got a lot of good content. However, I agree strongly with most of Tedder's points. There are a few places I don't agree so strongly: I think the table of athletic championships is fine, and there may be some stuff worth saving in the non-athletic section (though it will take some careful research and thinking to determine if that's the case).
- The address in the lead section shold probably be replaced by a neighborhood name, if there is one (?) and the "notable alumni" stuff is pretty standard across Wikipedia; Tedder's description of what should be done there is dead on. -Pete (talk) 02:07, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
- Looks like there are some good points here. Thanks to be Tedder and Pete. The points I think are worth reworking and saving are the media section and the section on non-athletic activites, as these are both constituative elements of school, it's environment and its identity. What could count as non-local sources for the section on Media? What could count as non-local sources for non-athletics? With these concerns in mind, I would not object to a reworking of the article, again, taken in the veign proposed by Tedder and Pete.Piratejosh85 (talk) 03:01, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
- My real point about non-local sources is that the community paper may cover the school a lot, but it wouldn't get any coverage in, say, the Oregonian. That's probably a great source to look at- but you can probably use the local sources if you are careful to emphasize how those elements are notable (without reading as an advert for the school).
- Are you okay with me reverting to my version, then you (and others) can re-add the elements as they are sourced? tedder (talk) 03:27, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
- In my opinion, the entire Spirit section should go. There's nothing in there that's remotely notable. 90% of the Extracurricular activities is the same way: same as everywhere else. However, ultimate frisbee? Is there really a school-based league for that?
- The newspaper is published only twice per term? That isn't meant to be twice weekly? Is the radio station operational 24 hours every day? —EncMstr (talk) 22:05, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
- The newspaper is indeed published twice/term (http://www.shs.lane.edu/talisman.php). No, it is not meant to be twice per week. I don't know if the radio station is operational 24 hrs. The exceptional relation to the school though is not the number of hours broadcasting / day, though, it's the incorporation of students. Ultimate frisbee, I dont think, is an OSAA sport. The school, though, does sponsor the team, ultimatly though a club format. The team operates as a sport, though, playing games and participating in tournmaents, like other sports. Piratejosh85 (talk) 23:59, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
- I think some of those things have some real potential to be notable, given verifiable and reliable sources! Having a radio station and an Ultimate Frisbee team seem like the sort of things that could be written about in a local newspaper, if not a regional paper like the Oregonian. tedder (talk) 03:10, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
I think I've made changes consistent with what was suggested here. I'm looking for and am excited to hear any and all suggestions. Piratejosh85 (talk) 03:18, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
- It looks much better! I made some basic changes, but it'd be nice to have "the programming far surpassing" sentence reworded in the Mr. Irish section; it is a little confusing. I also removed the word "facilitates" as it is a pet peeve of mine. Finally, I added a few fact tags- overall, great improvement. Thanks for your time on this! tedder (talk) 03:49, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
May 2009 cleanup, school color(s)
[edit]FWIW, I made another pass through the article today: added refs, standardized wording and infobox, and added a fact tag for the "Fighting Irish" moniker. tedder (talk) 06:25, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- Another quick change- the article said colors were "Green and white", but OSAA says it is only green. I changed it to match the ref. If a source can be found for white, please feel free to add. OSAA isn't 100% perfect, but it is an outside source. tedder (talk) 06:28, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
dang!

Championships never won
[edit]I have noted sports in which Sheldon has never won a state championship. (Before only won championships were noted.) I did this so that it is easier to make sure the list of won championships is comprehensive and current. Every few months I check all the links to see if Sheldon has won any new state championships. But with some sports never having won state, the check was incomplete (because there was no link). With links to sports that we haven't won, its easier to make a comprehensive check. baseball victory at state
[edit]geez! someone beat me to updating sheldon's victory at state in baseball. I came here to update just hours after sheldon's victory, and someone beat me to it. They must be editing from a mobile :) piratejosh — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.170.2.150 (talk) 05:05, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
Adding Key Information about Sheldon
[edit]I am thinking that it could be beneficial to add some key information about Sheldon High School, such as the school's mission statement, program description, school highlights, school improvement goals, and governing bodies. This is all information from their website, on the "Learn More About Sheldon" page [1]
Although the following sports have not won state championships, they should be worth nothing that they are available at the school. Sports missing from the page include boys and girls lacrosse, boys and girls waterpolo, cross country, girls basketball, wrestling, dance team, softball, and petanque.
A section about the performing arts available at Sheldon should be noted as well. [2]
Also, there are a few notable Sheldon graduates that I think should be added to the alumni list. Justin Herbert, current QB at Oregon [3] and Summer Dunne, YouTuber [4].
- edit, I didn't realize that Justin Herbert was on the list!* — Preceding unsigned comment added by Simplyloving (talk • contribs) 01:21, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
