DOB of Gabriel Fernandez

[edit]

I have found 2 sources one says Feb. 20, 2005 and the other says Feb 21, 2005. Which one should we use? [1][2] Iamreallygoodatcheckers (talk) 21:44, 19 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

His birthday is Feb 20 2005. I know the family and I am very involved. His birthday is the 20th. Gaby1262 (talk) 16:26, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ethnicity

[edit]

I don't know if anyone is watching this page, but I'm pinging @Thanoscar21, Funplussmart, and FightForWhatsRight:, the involved editors. The question: Should the fact that he was Hispanic be included? Looking at past precedent (Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos), I believe it should, but I'm open to others opinions. -- puddleglum2.0 15:55, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Personally, as per the past precedent, I think it should. Thanoscar21 (talk) 15:58, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It is self evident based on the surname, and a mention of ancestry can included if there is a reliable source elaborating on it. However, the opening paragraph should include one's nationality and not ethnicity in most cases unless it plays a major role in the subject's notability, which clearly is not the case here. See MOS:ETHNICITY funplussmart (talk) 16:02, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Neither the Steve Jobs or Jeff Bezos articles have ethnicity in the opening paragraphs, just their nationality. funplussmart (talk) 16:04, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Funplussmart, Sure, but I do believe the fact that'd be was Hispanic helps set some context; the job of the lead. If we're going to go by implications, the statement that he was from California says he's American; why then should we include American and not Hispanic? I do think that the fact he was Hispanic is an interesting fact; Wikipedia serves to inform and I believe that fact informs. Thanks, -- puddleglum2.0 16:09, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Puddleglum2.0, I'm just stating the accepted guidelines in the Manual of Style. I'm sure this guideline is in place to prevent undue weight from being placed onto one's ethnicity. Replacing "American" with "Hispanic" in the lead certainly places undue weight on the boy's ethnicity, especially because it has no other mention in the article. Our guidelines exist for a reason. funplussmart (talk) 16:15, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Funplussmart, I read the guideline again and I agree with you, if not with the guideline. We can keep the American; I see now that that's what MOS calls for. To be clear though; I do not agree with FightForWhatsRight; even if it was the correct information, the addition was for the wrong reasons; calling people racist, bigots, and bastards is no way to reason. Thanks for the discussion anyway, glad we could come to an agreement. -- puddleglum2.0 16:23, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I gave him a big warning about WP:CIVILITY. funplussmart (talk) 16:28, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
