Changing 1986 to 1989

[edit]

According to the Past Doctor Adventures book Business Unusual, the Sixth Doctor had been on Earth in 1989 and after defeating The Master he met Mel.

I've changed it to 20th century to reflect the uncertain canonicity of the source. --khaosworks (talkcontribs) 01:19, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

List of appearances

[edit]

Do we want to include the season listing in non-television appearances or not? I suppose that since the Big Finish audio dramas are explicitly set in-between television stories, it could be OK, but the novels are a messier matter, and Head Games and Heritage are both set after Mel's travels with the Doctor are over anyway. I think that if we start down this road it would be pretty easy to head into original research territory. The placement of each story within the Doctor Who canon can be addressed at each novel or audio's page, anyway.

Also, if we're going to list comic stories and short stories, it would be good to include Doctor Who Magazine issue numbers and collection titles, respectively, so that readers are able to find the stories if they want to. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 23:22, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

(I've taken care of the comic and short story sources, and removed the season tags from everything except the television stories and the audios.) —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 00:07, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

i was just looking at the list of audio plays she appears in... can i ask what type of ordering system is been used in the list. i dont think it is alphabetical chronological or by date? nor do they seem to be published acording to bigfinish season numbers. can anyone explain this? what would be the best to use.. does wikipedia have a standard for such matters--Dr noire (talk) 21:16, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Meeting the Doctor

[edit]

Where is it said in a TV story that the Doctor takes Mel back to his future after Trial of a Time Lord and then meets her again for the "first" time? I know that's the explanation used by the books, but is it ever explained canonically?

No it is only ever stated in the Target novel and Business Unusual. However, as this is the time it's discussed I think it's important to note. --Matt (talk) 21:25, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Vegetarian

[edit]

When is Mel revealed to be vegetarian canonically?Andral (talk) 12:43, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Meeting the Doctor

[edit]

In the documentaries released on the Trial of a Time Lord DVDs, there's a close-up of a document written by Eric Saward about how Mel met the Doctor. Should that go in the article? I know it's not canon, but I think it'd be interesting to at least know how Saward intended for them to meet up. Davhorn (talk) 22:29, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mel (Doctor Who character)Mel Bush – Although I agree with using Mel rather than Melanie per WP:COMMONNAME, the surname Bush was used in promo for the show and so its official status is not disputed. Mel Bush is currently a disambig for two people, this Mel and another who doesn't have her own page. U-Mos (talk) 19:55, 18 August 2011 (UTC) Move and delete the disambig page. We don't create disambig for potential articles, and we don't create them when there are only two topics (a note at the top of each article works better) D O N D E groovily Talk to me 05:15, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'll take this one. Expect remarks in a few hours. DoctorWhoFan91 (talk) 06:36, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'll go section by section. (P.S. I'm thinking of nominating Forest of the Dead again, would you like to review it?)

Character biography

[edit]
  • Is there nothing to say of the six stories between her debut and departure?
    • I summarized them mostly because it would just be restating each episode's basic plot. Mel doesn't have a very big role in any of them akin to her modern appearances and summarizing the episodes again here would just bloat the plot unnecessarily. Has one ever considered Magneton? Pokelego999 (talk) 12:11, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
      • there must be some common elements, like whatever the polite version of "damsel in distress" or ""crybaby" that distracted from more important stories" is
        • nothing here too?
          • Sorry, just wanted to double check what I had. The sources don't really give a particular highlight to specific episodes, and mostly focus on era-wide personality. I did not include it in the plot section out of concern that this would be too opinionated, as the audience reaction to Mel's role feels more fitting in the development reception. Spot-check

[edit]

Checking every 5th ref

  • Ref-1: show the Doctor meeting Mel for the first time ... The Sixth Doctor regenerated in the first scene of Season 24 ... Bonnie Langford would appear alongside a new Doctor ... not get to see her meeting the Sixth Doctor.
  • Ref-6: Mel is investigating ... Triad Technology and its leader Susan Triad (not the best source, but other GAs have passed despite it)
  • Ref-11: didn’t even return for a final regeneration episode, it wasn’t possible to cover his meeting with Mel.
  • Ref-16: Bonnie] decided she couldn’t take it anymore ... She decided to leave.
  • Ref-21: She said: "[Mel] felt she had to stop travelling the universe and actually, literally, get back to down to Earth and face the things she's been running away from."

Overall

I'll go in detail later, but please make the paragraphs smaller. They get harder to read the longer they are. DoctorWhoFan91 (talk) 08:09, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing comes up after a second read-through and a spot-check, passing to GA. Well done, more or less the best the article could be with the sources that are available. Congratulations, Pokelego999, keep up the good work. DoctorWhoFan91 (talk) 18:57, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
