Population
[edit]The population figure in the page and the figure on the infobox do not match, yet both figures are apparently pulled from the 2001 Census. Sicanjal 14:03, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
- I've sourced reliable and more up to date population figures using a Suffolk County Council reference. The larger figure in the original article probably included Worlingham in it. -- Blue Square Thing (talk) 19:50, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
I have reverted the population figure back to the 2001 Census (with citation), which is the figure generally used in articles on British Wikipedia pages. This is a specific figure, rather than an estimate. I have, however, retained the 2005 estimate figure for Beccles and Worlingham. Skinsmoke (talk) 01:00, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
Norfolk or Suffolk
[edit]There appears to be some disagreement about the location of Beccles. The article has for a long time stated Suffolk, but an anonymous editor 137.73.88.101 (talk · contribs) has several times changed it to Norfolk. I've been reverting this as vandalism, but thought I'd mention it on the talk page to check that Suffolk is correct. -- MightyWarrior (talk) 12:03, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
- It's in Suffolk, although close to the Norfolk border. I can think of no reason why continual changes to Norfolk are anything other than some kind of vandalism -- Blue Square Thing (talk) 20:40, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed, it's most definitely in Suffolk, although as Blue Square points out, near the border with Norfolk. No reason to wonder. It's been in Suffolk an awfully long time.MarmadukePercy (talk) 04:35, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Lists of people must be notable and sourced
[edit]lists of people must be notable and sourced, please provide sources for any lists of people included in this article. -- The Red Pen of Doom 02:17, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
Further to this, there seems to be a problem about the inclusion and subsequent deletion of Sir David Frost as a notable of Beccles. There is indeed no mention of Beccles in his personal entry, but this may well be an omission from that rather than mistakenly including him in the Beccles entry.
I offer this from the local Beccles press which details Sir David's (in my view, close) connections with the town.
http://www.becclesandbungayjournal.co.uk/news/town_s_bid_to_honour_life_of_sir_david_frost_1_2845235
and this, his unfortunately paywalled Times obit:-

If it is agreed that the above is accurate, then the answer would seem to be to edit the Frost entry to include reference to Beccles, and then to add him to the Beccles entry as a notable.

For what it's worth, my mother was born and brought up in Beccles. David Frost was the year above her while at school there. I realise this is still anecdotal but thought it was worth mentioning.

Transport
[edit]My maternal grandparents lived in Beccles for virtually their entire lives at 92 St Georges Road. My grandfather was George Lionel Westwood who was Deputy Mayor of Beccles for many years (the council wanted him to be Mayor but he always refused). In the 1980s, he fought long and hard for a bypass to be built around the town and it was primarily due to his efforts that the A146 by-pass was completed. In recognition of his contribution, the town council decided to name the link road between the A146 and the town after him, hence the link road is George Westwood Way.
